99% of Pokemon in Pokemon GO are pointless

The other day, aabicus and I were discussing our recent catches in various Pokemon games. I was lamenting on how an XXL shiny Darumaka had fled on me, while he was showing off his shiny Azumaril, which had Stellar as its Tera type. As we chatted, we both came to an agreement that, well, 99% of the Pokemon we catch in Pokemon GO were pointless. In a normal Pokemon game, you generally catch what you like, you become friends with these Pokemon and you take them all the way to the Elite Four. Of course, plenty of Pokemon end up… [Continue Reading]

What Was Our Deal With the Man In The Wall Anyway?

A quick heads up, this article contains spoilers from the Whispers in the Walls quest. I’ll be discussing one of the key parts of the quest, so you should probably go and play Whispers in the Walls first. I recommend taking an Excalibur, mostly for the cool scene in the second part of the quest, mostly for the sake of immersion. There is a defense mission, but it’s Mirror Defense, so the target will protect itself once you’ve collected enough thingies. You don’t really get much of a chance to switch frame, but I also recommend shoving some mods into… [Continue Reading]

Hisuian Typhlosion Raid Day

It’s nice that we’re getting more raid days. So far, we’ve had Hisuian Samurott, Wyrdeer and now Hisuian Typhlosion, with Hisuian Decidueye coming next month. It’s nice to get some free raid passes, not get a shiny and start eating into your premium raid passes, hoping you’ll finally get some better luck. But yeah, on Jan 14th, we had a raid day for Hisuian Typhlosion. Now, there’s something about Hisuian Typhlosion that kinda creeps me out. It’s too… drunk. It looks like it wants to seduce you in an alleyway, steal your soul then take your car on a joyride.… [Continue Reading]

On Not Finding Terastallizing Not That Useful

I’ve been playing a bit of Pokemon Scarlet lately, preparing teams in order to battle the Elite 4. Most of my farming though has been doing Tera Raids, solely for the items, since those raids don’t seem to give experience. But I’ve also been doing Tera Raids in order to try and find something interesting. I’ve… kinda failed at that so far. The idea behind Terastallizing is pretty cool. Your Pokemon turns into its Tera type, which can be any of 18 different types, it gets all shiny and crystal-y, and gets an ugly, stupid jewel crown representing said type… [Continue Reading]

How to Maximize Your Daily Incense

It turns out, I was wrong about the Daily Incense in Pokemon GO. I always thought that the Daily Adventure Incense was pretty simple. It would just spit out one Pokemon every minute, meaning you could ever only get 15 Pokemon total. But no, it’s more complicated than that. It turns out, you can get a lot more Pokemon out of a single Incense. The way the Daily Adventure Incense works is simple. It lasts for 15 minutes, and the more you walk, the more Pokemon spawn. The spawn rate is pretty simple. Every 30 seconds, the game checks to… [Continue Reading]

The Roottrees Are Dead – Free Game Recommendation

A few months ago I got the exciting opportunity to playtest an in-development game by solo developer Jeremy Johnston. Despite having no idea what I was signing up for, I ended up really liking the final product and heartily recommend it to everyone! The Roottrees Are Dead is free and playable in-browser on itch.io, and currently has 5/5 stars with 189 user reviews! Taking place in the dial-up era of computer history, The Roottrees Are Dead stars a genealogist who’s hired by a mysterious woman to assemble a family tree for the Roottrees, a famous pedigree who made their fortune through an… [Continue Reading]

On Finishing Another Year of Writing

It’s kinda silly that my first piece of writing for 2024 is about finishing my writing for 2023. But I feel like I have things to discuss. The 4000th article was a bit of a downer, mostly because, well, I’ve been down lately. But over the Christmas break, I got a much needed rest, and with it, I found the energy to get back into writing. Most of that writing though hasn’t been Daily SPUF stuff. Some of it definitely has, but thankfully, aabicus managed to write a bunch of articles, which gave me a small break in the new… [Continue Reading]

Baldur’s Gate 3 – Review & Recommendation

Baldur’s Gate 3 is getting rave reviews from everyone, sweeping award shows and being called the Best Game of 2023 by multiple publications. And it’s really not hard to see why. Having played it myself, it honestly deserves all the praise it’s getting and it’s easily one of my personal favorite games of all time. 1. Deep Breadth of Content The first thing I noticed upon jumping into this game was how much it had to offer. With 11 races, 12 classes and 46 subclasses, your player character can wield a vast array of different playstyles, backstories, and appearances, and… [Continue Reading]

A New Username

Over the last few years, I’ve shifted away from the name Medic, instead taking on the name Retvik. My original online alias was Phovos, which isn’t always available since it’s an intentional misspelling of the word Phobos, the Greek word for ‘Fear’. The name Retvik on the other hand has always been pretty available in a lot of places, since it’s not really a name. In fact, the name Retvik comes from one of the protagonists from my fictional writing. But the thing is, I was never 100% sold on the name Retvik. I took it because my preferred names… [Continue Reading]

The 3 Things That Appear in Every D&D Campaign

Now, I know that’s a very bold title to start off with. “Come on, aabicus,” I hear you saying, “There have been literally millions of D&D campaigns throughout history, with unfathomable amounts of premises and settings. How can you say for sure that anything has appeared in ALL of them?” Well, this is how. For the rest of this slow-news-day article, I’m gonna lay my case for why these three things (one weapon, one monster, and one treasure) have never failed to appear in any D&D campaign ever played, from one-shots to dungeon crawls to the most unfathomable genres and storylines you… [Continue Reading]
