Angry Monk Frame

It took me long enough but I finally managed to obtain and start leveling up Baruuk, the new Warframe released alongside the Fortuna Part 2 update before the holidays. Baruuk is supposedly some sort of peaceful frame that loses his restraint before murdering everything with his fists, but it feels like there’s something missing. As to where Baruuk came from, there’s no lore about him yet. Like Garuda, he was plonked into the new Venus areas and basically left there, just sitting in the inventory of a grumpy bitch hiding out in a backroom in Fortuna. All we have so… [Continue Reading]

Override: Mech City Brawl

I’ve been waiting for this game since I saw the trailer on Reddit some time in November. Override: Mech City Brawl is a game where you pilot mechs and pummel giant monsters and other mechs into the ground. Which is why I am so looking forward to getting this game. The game supports local and online multiplayer, for co-op and versus. Just a note, despite having a campaign, this game is mainly multiplayer-focused. Case in point, it took me about a bit over an hour to go through the campaign. The main focus of Override’s combat is on melee. There… [Continue Reading]

Some More Little Things I’d Like in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go is a great little game, but there’s always things that could be done better. Here are six little things, just small tweaks, that I’d like to see in Pokemon Go. The Chance to Find Evolved Shinies in the Wild Did you know you can’t actually find evolved Pokemon as shinies in the wild? Unless specifically mentioned for Raids (e.g. Shiny Gengar, Shiny Raichu), or in specific events (the one day Shiny Nidoqueen that appeared for World Women Day), if you see an evolved Pokemon in the wild, it won’t be a shiny. Which frankly I don’t know why… [Continue Reading]

The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls – A Physical Game Based on a Video Game

My brother loves everything related to the Binding of Isaac, and it’s one of the games he’s proud to have nearly perfectly completed. So when he heard of a board game kickstarter, of course he had to go and spend €50 on the game, which arrived just before Christmas. And it’s alright. The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls is a board/card game where four people can play as one of the characters from the Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth, using various items from the Binding of Isaac series. Players take turns attacking monsters by rolling dice and buying and using various… [Continue Reading]

Reincarnated Past

Long time ago, I talked about Brick Game. I was somewhat sad that I couldn’t get my hands on one of those around here, and was lamenting that at the end of the article. Yesterday, however, I found this. It is almost like the one I have as a kid, except that mine was blue, is in a horizontal orientation, with the screen between the buttons, and … OK it is nothing like my old brick game console. It is also really, really small. The thing itself functions pretty much the same as my old brick game console though. It… [Continue Reading]

Woo, 2019!

Where the fuck did 2018 go? One second it was January, the next it was April, August flew by, September was nonexistent and I don’t even remember where November went! And now it’s January 1st, 2019! Yeah. 2019. Somehow. Seriously, the time dragon has really sped things up over the course of 2018, hasn’t he? Anyway, 2018 was… eh, it was okay, I guess? It wasn’t an amazing year but it wasn’t a really horrible year either. Just another average year. There were some cool games released, like the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon remasters, Monster Hunter World, Hitman… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon Who Have Surprised Me

While playing Pokemon Go, I’ve been told multiple times about what the meta is and what Pokemon are good and what Pokemon I should power up and all that. But I’ve had some Pokemon, Pokemon who are normally ignored or not used or anything like that, who have really stepped forward and done their job in my moment of need. That sounds tacky and corny but frankly, not everyone has an army of fucking Tyranitars and Shadow Ball Mewtwos. And frankly some of these Pokemon are so unpopular I couldn’t find models of them in the Garry’s Mod Steam Workshop.… [Continue Reading]

Heavy Weapons Frames – Archwing Guns on the Ground

“I am Heavy Weapons Frame. And THIS is my weapon.” When I first conjured up the title of this article, I had very little to say about Archwing guns being used on land. Mostly because I only had the Grattler available for use outside of Archwing missions and the costs to using Archwing weapons were way too fucking high. You see, Archwing guns were always “too heavy to use in an atmosphere” and were “designed for space use only”, but the Profit-Taker bounties gave us an excuse. All we had to do was install a Gravimag on our Archwing guns… [Continue Reading]

Why Medic is better than Mercy

As a person who goes around the internet calling himself “Medic”, I get asked a lot about Mercy from Overwatch. I often get asked if Mercy is attractive and if Medic and Mercy would ever get together. I’ve actually answered that question before, and the answer is a flat out no. Their personalities are wildly different. There’s no way Mercy would even take a second look at Medic. Assuming Medic even makes it that long (since canonically he gives himself 50 more years to live back in the 1970’s and Overwatch is set in the future). Medic and Moira though?… [Continue Reading]

General Strike: A Monopoly Full-Conversion Mod

The next generation of Game Development Master’s students have started their program (I graduated!) and one of their first assignments is to make a mod for a pre-existing board game. I didn’t get this assignment in my year, but I happened to have already made one back when I was in high school, and the professor asked that I upload it somewhere so he could use it an example. On that note, hi everybody from UCSC Games & Playable Media class of 2020! General Strike A Monopoly game for two to four players General Strike is a board game played on… [Continue Reading]
