Destiny 2 – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Years after the TF2 blog stopped being constantly updated, I decided to personally consider “The Daily SPUF” as my new official TF2 blog. However, it wasn’t long until the lack of content in TF2 made The Daily SPUF writers to place other games in the spotlight. I personally wouldn’t have gotten myself addicted to Warframe otherwise. Almost half a year ago when I first started writing this article, I was extremely excited about Destiny 2 coming to PC, even though I didn’t have a clue on how exactly should I approach new players. My initial aim was to introduce and… [Continue Reading]

Payday The Heist: AI Bots Explained

The bots in Payday: The Heist are designed to fill the role of an average if unremarkable teammate. They’ve got a number of behavioral quirks and coded advantages over humans, but that’s just to compensate for all the really basic stuff they can’t do at all. This guide will cover every possible difference I’ve found between the Payday: The Heist bots and their human counterparts. Statistics AI bots have 75 hitpoints that are constantly regenerating, turning them into pretty impressive bullet sponges so long as they aren’t standing out in the open taking suppressing fire from three different directions. When… [Continue Reading]

Payday 2: On Joker Cops

There are a couple reasons I frequently finding myself grabbing Joker skills in my Payday 2 builds; firstly, they’re under the Mastermind skill tree, which also comes with all the medic skills. The top joker skill, Hostage Taker, lets you regenerate health every five seconds if you have a converted cop. This works great with most of my favorite perk decks, especially my current love Stoic, which has phenomenal tanking potential but no innate way to regenerate the slivers of damage that will slowly wear you down throughout a heist. But even when I don’t spec all the way into… [Continue Reading]

Left 4 Dead: The Birth of a Genre

Left 4 Dead was a great game. It had the perfect mix of arcadey action and strategic gameplay to entice shooter fans of every skill level, while also having amazing writing and atmosphere that really sold the survival horror aesthetic. Sure, it wasn’t the first 4-player coop (Yahtzee even griped in his Left 4 Dead 2 review about how commonplace those sorts of games were), but it carved a niche for itself that is so prevalent nowadays that I’d call an entire subsection of Co-op horde shooters “Left 4 Dead clones”. Left 4 Dead famously came into existence when the… [Continue Reading]

So, about Pip…

I can say with more than a fair share of certainty that Pip is a major source of contention within the Paladins community. A Support champion having more in common with the Flanker champions really ruffles some people’s feathers. He’s also got an extra stigma attached to him, to give those who dislike him more fuel to add to the fire. Thanks to Pip being (currently) the ONLY free Support champion, he’s jumped on by any and every new player leading to the image that every Pip player is completely oblivious to the plight of their team as newer players… [Continue Reading]

Overwatch: Doomfist is Live!

Hello, this is aabicus with the SPUF of Legend! Doomfist finally went live today, the character everyone’s been waiting for. He’s not voiced by Terry Crews, as everyone seemed to be hoping, but thankfully the community seems okay with that because the voice actor they got just nails the character. Doomfist, as the name would suggest, is a melee-oriented Offense hero whose attacks all help him move throughout the battlefield while dealing close-range knockback+damage to foes. He’s a blast to play, but he’s got a really high skill ceiling, like Genji, just because of the reflexes and reaction times needed… [Continue Reading]

MeeMs Thoughts on Difficulty… Again…

So recently, I’ve been thinking about what exactly makes games hard. And, unlike my previous discussion on the matter I’ve been thinking more about this problem from a developer perspective. Particularly the notion that if you make a game too easy people will skip over it, too hard and people will ragequit (before someone mentions it, Dark Souls and similar don’t count – they’re meant to be hard). I was thinking more along the lines of simple, progression-orientated fighting games. In many games to be found there is always a few constant elements to keep said game interesting and fun… [Continue Reading]

Prey Demo Impressions

With the reboot of Prey on the horizon, I was pleasantly surprised to find out it had a demo available. I was curious about it after spying a trailer or two, but was hesitant seeing that the developer was Arkane Studios as I haven’t been a fan of their previous work, but I could look past that. You begin by waking up in your apartment with your brother telling you to get aboard the helicopter he has waiting for you. After a long-winded cinematic scene that feels like it was lifted from Mirror’s Edge, you finally touch down and can… [Continue Reading]

Robocraft: Now in Beta

I’ve had a long relationship with Robocraft.  It’s been in early access alpha for years now, and the game has morphed and grown in so many ways.  Wayyy back in the day, the game was built in tiers kinda like World of Tanks, there was only about three movement types (wheels, hoverblades, and thrusters and helium for flying), and three types of weapons, SMG laser spam, arcing AOE blasts of plasma, and railgun snipers.  Your craft was piloted by a goofy little spaceman, whom you had to protect to survive.  The only game mode was a 10v10 last man standing… [Continue Reading]

Roadhog Time

As a Lucio main who offclasses Soldier 76, I’m pretty immune to the whole Overwatch concept of “competitive checks and balances”. Both of my mains are stupidly adaptable with self-healing, self-defense, mobility, and easy-to-use firearms rounding out their generalist kits. No matter who I’m fighting on the other team, its rare for any opposing hero choices to really cause me much difficulty beyond forcing me to play passively and maybe preventing me from easily doing my job. And then there’s this mother♥♥♥♥er. Roadhog counters both of my mains so badly that he’s now my tertiary main, for no reason other… [Continue Reading]
