Things That Annoy Me About The Buddy System in Pokemon GO

Galarian Zigzagoon Community Day

I like the buddy system in Pokemon GO. It’s very simple and basic, but it’s nice to have a companion Pokemon that follows you around and gives you certain gifts and buffs as you level your buddy up. But the system is certainly not perfect, and there are definitely some things that annoy me. My first pet peeve is feeding buddies with berries. You need three berries initially to get started and have your buddy wander around, and feeding it additional berries will keep your buddy out in the real world. To earn hearts, you have to feed your buddy… [Continue Reading]

Five Pokemon You Should Consider To Have as a Buddy

A Pyro with more shiny Magikarp than he can handle.

In Pokemon GO, you rarely walk alone. There’s always a buddy Pokemon by your side as you walk around. But what is worth walking around? Here are some options. Magikarp You can never have too much Magikarp candy. Even if you’ve managed to complete the Evolve a Magikarp task in Mew’s special research, the fact that you need so much candy is always still there. After all, you need to power up your Gyarados as well. Gyarados isn’t the be-all and end-all of water types, but it is a very strong water type and it has a Mega Evolution, which… [Continue Reading]

Things I’d Like Pokemon Buddies to do

Medic and his Giratina

I love the whole buddy system in Pokemon GO. It’s like having a little virtual companion that doesn’t need much maintenance. However, considering how long it takes to get to Best Buddies, the incentives for doing so are a bit… lackluster. So today I’ll be musing about some extra incentives that I’d like to see. Spin Pokestops Buddies actually already have a thing to do with pokestops, but it’s not that useful. After all, we can already see Pokestops we haven’t visited yet. The buddy just doesn’t do anything useful. However, we can put our Pokemon to work by having… [Continue Reading]

Tips to Get to Best Buddies slightly quicker in Pokemon GO

In Pokemon GO, getting a Pokemon to the level of Best Buddies is kinda hard. Actually, no. I take that back. It’s tedious trying to level up a buddy. Luckily here are some little tips to maybe speed things up. Keep the Nanabs For once, nanab berries have a use, aside from making excellent throws in a row. Most of the time, you don’t need nanabs to catch Pokemon, so it’s worth feeding them to your buddy instead. Eventually, your buddy will start giving you gifts of berries, but at the start, you have to use what you’ve got. Luckily,… [Continue Reading]

Five Reasons why you should play Pokemon GO with a friend.

Medic and his Giratina

Pokemon GO is supposed to be a friendly little game. The basic idea is that a community comes together to catch Pokemon and have fun. And when Pokemon GO first came out, we all had a lovely summer playing Pokemon together. Friendship level ups give a lot of experience Funnily enough, making new friends is actually one of the fastest ways to level up. As you reach different tiers of friendship, you get more and more experience. The higher the rank you reach, the more experience you’ll get. If you reach Best Friends, you get 100,000 experience! Having a Best… [Continue Reading]

On Legendary Buddies

Giratina out by a Pokemon Go gym

I like the buddy concept in Pokemon GO. It’s one of the few things where Pokemon are treated as friends rather than candy. Sure, not a lot happens with the buddy system, but it’s a unique thing that you can passively work towards. Some Pokemon are easier to walk than others, and walking a Pokemon to Best Buddy isn’t always needed. I’ve also recommended in the past to not walk a Legendary or Mythical Pokemon, because they take too long before getting any tangible benefits. Well, call me stupid, because I don’t actually listen to my own ramblings. At all,… [Continue Reading]

7 Tips for Leveling Up Your Buddy in Pokemon GO

Medic rolls his eyes at a massive Kyogre

Pokemon GO’s buddy system is somewhat weird. Walking a buddy used to just be a way to earn candy. But now, your buddy can earn XL and Mega candt, show you Pokestops you haven’t spun before and gives you presents of varying value. At Best Buddy, your Pokemon gains an extra level, which can take a Pokemon to level 51 at most. However, the buddy system does take a lot of time, especially if you are looking to use a Legendary Pokemon. Thankfully though, I have some tips for you that can make leveling up a buddy easier. You don’t… [Continue Reading]

Walking a Buddy for Fun

Medic and his Giratina

Every time I start getting close to reaching Best Buddies, I go through the same old predicament. Once my current Pokemon buddy reaches Best Buddies, what do I walk in its place? There are so many Pokemon to choose from, and some will resonate more than others. Now, I’ve written in the past about what Pokemon you should buddy with. But that little guide really doesn’t help to narrow down the list that much. After all, there are so many Pokemon that we get attached to, ones that are useful and ones that are cool. But I feel like I’m… [Continue Reading]

The 5 Worst Buddies in Pokemon GO

I’ve always enjoyed the buddy feature in Pokemon Go. It’s basically an overly simplified Tamagotchi. A small pet that you feed berries to and it occasionally helps you out. Getting a Pokemont to Best Buddies is a long commitment. It takes around a month to do if you take the time to walk a Pokemon 6km every day. The benefits are rather hit and miss, with random daily gifts, helping you catch Pokemon and, at best Buddies, gaining an extra level. But not every Pokemon makes for a good buddy. Some Pokemon aren’t worth leveling up to Best Buddies at… [Continue Reading]

On Trying to Decide Who My Next Buddy Should Be – Pokemon GO

So many buddies, so little time...

After a day of being excited from Team Rocket battles during GO Fest, I finally became Best Buddies with my Tyranitar Wondershadow. It took me just over a month to get to Best Buddies, mostly because I’ve not been as active as normal. Well, outside of events like GO Fest. But I managed to get Wondershadow to be excited after constantly battling with him, and the extra hearts I earned were just enough to push me over the edge and get to Best Buddies. But with Wondershadow the Tyranitar satisfied, I wondered who I should walk next. After all, that… [Continue Reading]
