The Terrifying Cave Generation of Minecraft Snapshot 21w06a

After a very long wait, we’ve finally gotten to the ‘caves’ part of the Caves and Cliffs snapshots. This is very exciting for Minecraft, since a cave update has been both teased and desired for years. While Minecraft’s original cave system is pretty cool, especially with canyons, Snapshot 21w06a threatens to completely demolish it. While only being the tip of the iceberg. 21w06a introduces the new cave generation. None of the new underground biomes are here yet. Instead, we’ve got the foundations of the new cave system. The build limit has been extended from 256 blocks to 384 blocks, with… [Continue Reading]

WTF Even Are Phantoms

Sometimes I think that maybe I shouldn’t have taken such a long break from Minecraft. I stopped playing at around Minecraft 1.8, and now we’re on Minecraft 1.16. Although I did play Pixelmon for a bit, that wasn’t quite the same as modern Minecraft. Turns out, many, many mods and modded servers use 1.12. And a huge number of larger Minecraft servers actually remain in the past, stuck on 1.12. Namely because that version runs better with lots of concurrent players. Funnily enough, this also coincides with the combat changes in 1.9, but even by 1.8, I was kinda getting… [Continue Reading]

WTF Even is a Ghast?

So, the Minecraft Nether update was pretty awesome. What was once an otherwise really boring hell hole is now a flourishing hellscape. We got a bunch of new biomes, new mobs and all sorts! In fact, the modern Nether is so cool that you can very nearly survive completely in it. There are now places to obtain cobble and wood-like items, allowing one to survive nearly indefinitely in the Nether. On top of that, we got some absolutely gorgeous building blocks and light sources, which Medicinal Warlock talked about last August. But there’s something about the Nether that still feels… [Continue Reading]

When A Minecraft Server Turns into a Gambling Server

I like to play a bit of Pixelmon. Pixelmon is a mod for Minecraft that basically combines Minecraft and Pokemon. The best experience to do this is on a multiplayer server. There are lots out there, but I play on one in particular. Unfortunately, this server just seems to be turning into a place to gamble. To the point that, well, I really wouldn’t recommend playing on the RC-Gamers Pixelmon servers at all. Now, I understand that servers need to make money, but… I’m going to get this out of the way first. Yes, servers need donations to keep on… [Continue Reading]

Some thoughts on the Caves and Cliffs Update announcement, Part 3

I thought this will only be a two-parter, boy was I wrong. Over the last two articles, I went through lush caves, mountains, and the new underground caves and structures. Basically, the main subject of the Caves and Cliffs Update. Now, I’ll be talking about the other things that are being added into this update. Bundles are a way to get 64 of any assorted items into a single inventory space. And honestly, this is amazing for projects when you have a lot of items you need to use, but you only need a couple of each item. What’s also… [Continue Reading]

Some thoughts on the Caves and Cliffs Update announcement, Part 2

Last article, I talked about lush caves and mountains. This time, we’ll be talking about caves. The cave generation has been overhauled significantly. The new caves are now large and cavernous, and is much more majestic-looking than what we have now. Aside for that, caves now have local water levels, so some caves will be flooded. I am not sure how dense the cave networks will be, and how deep they will go. If they frequently stretches deep underground, it will significantly affect early-game resource gathering. The easiest early-game resource gathering method right now is strip mining, and the strip… [Continue Reading]

Some thoughts on the Caves and Cliffs Update announcement, Part 1

In the most recent Minecraft Live event, Update 1.17, the Caves and Cliffs Update have been announced. The announcement video is right here: I’ll be going through the new stuff revealed in the update here. I won’t be going over everything in detail, just the parts that interests me. Lush caves are absolutely fantastic. The vegetation added in there allows so much more to be done when doing natural builds. One of the styles I really like is to have ruins that are being overtaken by nature, and the moss layers, moss blocks, glow berry vines and drip leaves gives… [Continue Reading]

Big Ol’ Farms

There was a period of time in Minecraft where I like building giant farms. I’ve built a few for the past months. I’ve built a gold farm (waited till 1.16 before I built it), a passive, self-harvesting mushroom farm (24 mushrooms after 6 hours, I hate myself for it), and a cactus farm. But my most favourite farms that I’ve built are my creeper farm and my witch farm. The Creeper farm, by design, is meant to generate a ton of gunpowder and nothing else. This is vital for me as I am absolutely addicted to Elytra-flying and thus need… [Continue Reading]

The End Needs A Nether Update

The Nether got a really nice update lately. What was once nothing but Netherrack and lava is now… almost a paradise. Alright, sure, the Nether is literally a hellscape. It’s designed to be a dangerous place full of scary, gloomy monsters. But the Nether at least now has some variation. The End could do with something similar. The original Nether was mediocre. Up until the Nether Fortresses were added, there was no real reason to even go to the Nether, aside from traveling. Distances in the nether are one eighth of that in the surface world, so you can use… [Continue Reading]

On Raiding and Pillaging Other People’s Bases

A Minecraft server I play on is announcing that they’re wiping everything and having a fresh start. The catch is that you can transfer your items to the new server. There will also be two new, fresh servers, where everyone will start from scratch. But basically, we have a limited amount of time to strip everything down and move it to the ‘legacy’ server, before the six existing mini-servers all get nuked. The server owners have set up various processes and a timeline, so people know what they can do. Money and items can be ported over, no problem, albeit… [Continue Reading]
