A card game on The Daily SPUF???

This time I’m going to be writing about something a little different. Instead of a game you can play on your phone or computer, this game requires you to use physical items. Moreover, it requires you to *gasp* go meet other real life people. Weiss Schwarz is a card game made by Bushiroad. Unlike what the name might imply, it is a Japanese card game, not a German one. The game is divided into two sides, Weiss and Schwarz. The Weiss side is filled with the ‘cute’ series, while the Schwarz side is filled with the ‘cool’ series. You can… [Continue Reading]

DayZ

You are dead. Those are words you will see a lot playing DayZ. What is DayZ? It’s the game that is eternally in early access. To be a bit more specific, it’s an open world survival game with zombies (I think they’re technically not zombies, but they sure act like it). In DayZ, you must survive a never ending cycle of thirst, hunger, zombies, and other players. Yes, other players are your biggest enemy. Sure the ever present zombies will cause you issues, but if you know what you’re doing then they won’t really be much of a threat. The… [Continue Reading]

War of the adorable!

Have you ever played a game where you control a bunch of soldiers, but had them revolt against you? Maybe it’s something about not wanting to rush to their deaths, but no matter the cause, it’s always annoying when people don’t follow orders. That’s why I’m introducing the Human Tanks. These cute girls aren’t afraid to die for the cause. In fact, they want to die for their commander. In their minds, there is no better way to go than to die in a fiery explosion. War of the Human Tanks is a top down strategy game published by Fruitbat… [Continue Reading]

Planetside 2

When I started playing Planetside 2 on Aug 14, 2013, my motivation was extremely straightforward; I wanted to participate in giant battles with hundreds of players slugging it out in first-person shooter combat. Far as I knew, Planetside 2 was really the only option if playercount was your single defining criteria, as it’s the leading juggernaut in the relatively niche MMOFPS market. I wanted to be a tiny pawn in a giant, unfathomable war machine, where powers larger than myself or the hundreds of soldiers around me waged a never-ending game of dominance. For that reason, I did almost no research before plunging in. I… [Continue Reading]

L4D2: The Campaigns Less Traveled

Recently my friend aDm soloed my favorite custom campaign in Left 4 Dead 2, Journey to Splash Mountain, on the hardest difficulty without bots. (In particular his amazing run of map 4 was quite cathartic, as we both learned in our personal solo runs that the Splash Mountain ride is undeniably the most difficult portion of the run. I also wish I’d noticed his trick to teleport gas cans to the generator when I’d done the finale.) In the Realism Expert Solo community, its rather rare to find people making use of the large and rich expansion of custom campaigns. Almost everybody sticks to the… [Continue Reading]

The Three Second-Best Payday 2 DLCs

A while ago, I wrote an article detailing what I consider to be the best Payday 2 DLCs for the money. I’ve updated the article with the times and it still holds up for the budget heister. But DLCs go on sale so many times, that it’s not ludicrous to think that somebody might already own those three, basically the closest things to ‘mandatory’ DLC purchases in the game, but still would like to know what they’ll still get real value out of. So this article is the honorable mentions, DLC that are certainly not required but they at least offer… [Continue Reading]

An English Major’s Guide to Computer Care

Get a load of that amazing video. I just got off the phone with Steven Spielberg and have been informed my Oscar is in the mail. I really don’t have anyone to blame but myself for the state of my poor desktop, though. When the thunderstorm-induced powerout caused unknown damage to my video driver, my surge-protected power strip proved insufficient protection. But even in less hostile environments, my adventures turning my old Windows 7 laptop into a usable piece of hardware again have taught me a lot of things about how to care for your equipment from a position of relative ignorance… [Continue Reading]

How to Get Your Friends to Play Undertale

“I’m sorry, why have ALL my friends begged me to play Undertale? I’ve played up to the Comic Sans jokes and I cannot stand all the false choice so far. NPC: Don’t progress further! I’m protecting you from the world for your own good! Go back to bed! “Do you wanna fight, talk, or flee from the friendly cow?” aabicus: Uhh, talk “You cant think of anything to talk about” aabicus: okay, flee? “you flee. it’s still in the way of the rest of the game” aabicus: I guess turn around and go back to bed “The narrator shouts at… [Continue Reading]

Low Bow – My current favorite Payday 2 playstyle

Ever since Overkill rebalanced the weapons in Payday 2, secondaries have overtaken the metagame as the primary weapons of choice. Pistols are ludicrously powerful and accurate, and most SMGs are just souped-up versions of the assault rifles rather than the other way around. This means that I often can’t find a real rationale to bring a traditional primary weapon when I can easily play the entire heist relying wholly on my Bronco revolver to kill anything that gets in my way. So my primary slot has almost always been filled with a utility weapon, and the weapon I’ve found that brings… [Continue Reading]

Secrets and Hidden Content in Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2, like any game, has loads of code/assets that ultimately went completely unused. But some of them are accessible via use of console commands (often in conjunction with sv_cheats 1), letting you see and play with cool beta content! 1. Hidden reload for the Hunting rifle. At one point, the hunting rifle had a much more complicated reload before Valve changed it to something shorter and simpler. But you can still accidentally access the older reload by holding a non-inventory item (like a gas can), throwing it with m1 and immediately shoving with m2. No, I have… [Continue Reading]
