A Review of Quake’s Expansion Packs (Part 2)

I wasn’t sure whether to write this article. You see, I wasn’t quite as enamored with the concept of the new expansion packs as I was the old. Sure, it’s nice to have more Quake, but I was bummed that they only used the base-game content. Plus they ignored all the new assets/weapons/enemies from the expansion packs. But I wanted to complete the entire set, and was curious to see what sort of gameplay updates developers had figured out in the many years since the originals released. Dimension of the Past This first expansion pack was released in 2018, to… [Continue Reading]

A Review Of Quake’s Expansion Packs (Part 1)

On April 19 2021, the Steam version of Quake got a massive enhancement update. It added graphical updates, cross-play multiplayer, restored original soundtracks, and four expansion packs. Two of these, Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity, were the canonical expansions released back during Quake‘s normal commercial cycle. The final two (Dimension of the Past and Dimension of the Machine) were added decades later, as free celebratory add-ons. This article will be focused on the earlier pair, with hopefully another for the latter two coming later. Quake For a Modern Audience Before I played through these, I re-completed the original… [Continue Reading]

Random Thoughts on the Witch Queen Campaign

For my birthday, my brother bought me a copy of Witch Queen, the new expansion for Destiny 2. I had been holding off buying it for myself for quite a long time, due to the fact that I don’t really play much Destiny 2 in general. However, since it had been gifted to me, brother and I decided to play through the main Witch Queen campaign, a whole new story to be unraveled. In all honesty though, I’m not too sure about it all. I can’t tell if I liked it or not. Felt short Maybe it’s because I wasn’t… [Continue Reading]

Well, Survivors of the Void is a tricky DLC

I hadn’t played Risk of Rain 2 in a while, so when someone informed me that a DLC was coming out soon, well, I decided to get the DLC straight away, because I like Risk of Rain 2. And, so far, it’s been fun! Fun but deadly There’s lots of cool stuff in Survivors of the Void. Including the Void. And the Void Fiend. Survivors of the Void introduces two new characters and a general Void theme, as well as new levels and new items. Basically Void Everything. And all that void-y goodness wants to make you dead. There’s also… [Continue Reading]

Beyond Light – Wondering Why I Bothered with a “Part 1”

The other day, I wrote about the main campaign in Destiny 2. Beyond Light, as the name suggests, involves our player character discovering a new way to manipulate the world around us instead of using, well, Light. In that previous article, I named it “part 1” because I thought it’d be really long. Turns out, nothing is long when I have my happy ice sled Sparrow. So, uh, let’s just get back to where we were, having just beaten one of the big boss’s henchmen. Just a heads up, I will be kinda spoiling things in this article. But Beyond… [Continue Reading]

Just Cause 2: Black Market Boom Pack DLC Review

The other day I reviewed the Agency Hovercraft DLC from Just Cause 2, despite it being over a decade since it came out. I can’t help it, I really like Just Cause 2 and have been addictively binging my second playthrough. And I just want to talk about the other DLC I purchased, one I’ve been enjoying since I first got the game in 2015. The Black Market Boom pack is one of the two multi-item DLCs, along with the Black Market Aerial Pack. The latter I chose not to buy as I rarely use planes and don’t want to… [Continue Reading]

Just Cause 2: Agency Hovercraft DLC review

Despite loving Just Cause 2 and considering it among my top 3 favorite games, I don’t actually own most of the DLCs for it. Not counting the free ice-cream truck and turreted rickshaw, I only bought the Black Market Boom pack to get my hands on the amazing Air Propulsion Gun. All the stuff in the other DLCs don’t seem to serve any unique purpose, or add anything to the game that isn’t already done by base-game vehicles and weapons. But for no real reason, I recently decided to buy and review the Agency Hovercraft just to test how Avalanche… [Continue Reading]

Destiny 2’s DLC System Feels Expensive for What It Is

I’ve always wanted to like Destiny 2. The premise seems awesome. It’s like a cross between Borderlands and Halo with a hint of Warframe. I completely missed the train on Destiny 1, but Destiny 2 having both an open beta and becoming Free to Play meant I could give it a go. But every time I do try and get into Destiny 2, I get frustrated. Half of it is that I find the platforming required to be atrocious. The other half is that, well, I feel like I might as not be playing without DLC. Please note that this… [Continue Reading]

The current state of Destiny 2 – Content Removal Edition

As you might have heard through multiple news sources, Destiny 2 is getting a massive rework on November. One concerning fact is that 4 locations are becoming inaccessible after Beyond Light. Before we get into why is this happening we got to take a look at the bigger picture regarding how many barriers are set up for new players and how much relevant content you can play currently. A quick recap on the story: To address the elephant in the room, those monolithic Pyramids were part of the main plot on the Shadowkeep expansion. One derelict was found buried under… [Continue Reading]

5 Payday Weapon Skins that are Pay-2-Win (In a Good Way!)

Payday 2 DLCs come with some great gun attachments that can drastically change your favorite weapons’ playstyles. Normally, you can’t equip these attachments unless you own its DLC, but some DLC mods are actually baked into certain weapon skins, and if you buy these skins on the Steam Community Market you can use those mods even if you don’t own their DLCs. In this video, I’m covering some cheap skins that base players should consider buying not for their looks, but for the gun mods they unlock. These are 5 SKINS WITH GAME-CHANGING DLC ATTACHMENTS and again, I paid a… [Continue Reading]
