The Little Gap Between Events

As of writing, there is no event going on in Pokemon GO. The Festival of Colours event has ended, and we’re getting a Team Rocket-based event coming next week. Because there is no event going on, we get basic seasonal spawns. Pokemon that spawn naturally in the wild, based on whatever season we’re in. By ‘season’, I don’t mean normal, in-real-life seasons, I mean the ones in Pokemon GO. They do kinda sorta co-exist with real seasons, but the seasonal spawns aren’t always related to winter or spring or whatever. The current season is Rising Heroes, and we’re expecting more… [Continue Reading]

On Using The Right Counters

During the Hoenn Tour, one of the main features was doing raids. We were raiding for Groudon and Kyogre, which had reverted into their Primal forms, making them much, much more powerful. They had a  CP of about 90,000 each, which is nearly double what normal legendary Pokemon have. So, in order to defeat these monsters, we needed to use the best teams possible. Did we all do that? Well, I did. Organized teams I had separate teams for both Kyogre and Groudon. Against Primal Groudon, I used a collection of (normal) Kyogres, while using a Mega Gyarados to boost… [Continue Reading]

Hoenn Tour Day 2

Well, it turns out there wasn’t much difference between days one and two. That’s okay. In the Johto and Kanto events, a lot more was going on. Day one would be habitats and catching, while day 2 would be more of a story/adventure sort of thing. Kanto Tour had the shadow legendaries for example. But for the Hoenn tour, things on day 2 are mostly the same as day one. Frankly, I like this. Having to do collection challenges and research can be quite tricky if you don’t have much time on your hands. After all, not everyone can play… [Continue Reading]

Hoenn Tour Day 1

This February, we had the Hoenn Tour in Pokemon GO. Just like the Kanto and Johto tours in previous years, the Hoenn Tour featured Pokemon over a two day event, as well as special raids and new potentially shiny Pokemon. Day 1 is more of a collectathon, while day 2 is generally a tad more story-based, if that even makes sense. Anyway, let’s have a look at Day 1. Day 1 had rotating habitats, during which various Pokemon would spawn. Like the previous tours, we had to catch one of each Pokemon to complete a collection challenge. Unlike the previous… [Continue Reading]

These Abnormally Sized Pokemon Aren’t So Bad

A while back, I wrote an article about Pokemon sizes. In Pokemon GO, two new sizes were added to a Pokemon’s potential stats: XXS or XXL. Pokemon that are XXS and XXL are, as the name suggests, extra extra small and extra extra large. Originally, these new sizes were only visible on a handful of Pokemon, but ever since I wrote the previous article, now any Pokemon can be extra big or extra small. Has anything really changed though? Not really. The little banners are still there, as are the little popups saying whether a Pokemon is tiny or huge.… [Continue Reading]

What is a better companion, a hundo or a shiny?

Lately, I’ve been having problems trying to decide what buddy I should have in Pokemon GO. I enjoy leveling up buddies and getting them to the best buddy level, but it can take a long time to do so. By my calculations, it tends to take 28-30 days to get one Pokemon to Best Buddy, and that’s in a semi casual way. There are definitely ways to speed up the process, but that requires more effort than I have available. Most of the time, I have to narrow things down and make a final decision on what Pokemon I will… [Continue Reading]

On Purifying 100 Pokemon

When I managed to get to level 44 in Pokemon GO, I was interested to see what I needed to reach level 45. Turns out, I have a MASSIVE experience grind to get to level 45. Just need another 11 million experience. However, the three level 45 challenges all felt pretty good to me. Beat 100 grunts, beat 50 leaders and purify 100 Pokemon. While I beat 100 grunts very quickly, and am half way through beating the Team Rocket leaders, the purifying task is a little daunting. I mean, I’ve just completed the task to purify 100 Pokemon, but… [Continue Reading]

Noibat Community Day

One of my favorite Pokemon is Noivern. So when I heard that we were getting a Noibat Community Day, I was very happy. This was a chance for me to get a hold of plenty of Noibats and hopefully be able to evolve a good Noivern. Things didn’t quite go as planned. The weather was quite threatening, and due to a mix-up I didn’t charge up my battery pack. So it was basically a race against the clock to see how many Noibats I could catch. What’s nice though was the triple stardust and double catch candy. Despite being a… [Continue Reading]

My First Level 50 Pokemon

Getting XL Candy can be tedious. Normally, there are only a handful of ways to get XL Candy. Walking a buddy will net you one XL for every small distance, and takes forever, earning one XL Candy at a time. The best way is to simply catch Pokemon, but that is also random. You may get 5 XL Candy in some cases, but most of the time, you get one XL Candy per catch if you’re lucky. However, aside from doing Legendary raids for Legendary Pokemon, getting XL Candy consistently is hard. Because of this, there are only a few… [Continue Reading]

My Favourite Costumed Pokemon

While costumes on Pokemon can often be seen as a cheap way to better an event, there’s actually quite a lot of them that I like. Sure, these costume Pokemon waste precious space in my inventory, but I can’t help but like them. Here are my favourite costume Pokemon: Party hat Gengar I like Pokemon in party hats. After all, my Medic in TF2 always wears a party hat, and I like to carry that over into Pokemon GO. However, there are multiple Pokemon with party hats, but I can’t like all of them. After all, not all of them… [Continue Reading]
