Rocket Arena: Closed Beta Review

One of the perks of attending GDC 2019 with a Media badge was that they added me to some sort of mailing list that’s been receiving press kits and closed beta offers ever since. I usually stream said closed betas on Twitch, and every so often one of them leaves a real impression and really makes me look forward to when said game comes out. Rocket Arena hit the latter category with aplomb. Rocket Arena is a mobility-based arena FPS where the players have Super Smash Bros-style health bars. If you take too much damage, you’ll get blasted into the skybox… [Continue Reading]

Waking Up in Azeroth

I’ve never really been an MMO kinda guy, even when my first job out of college was writing for one. I never had the patience to level up a character, and they’re always super boring at the early levels before you’ve unlocked anything of value. I first tried World of Warcraft in undergrad after it went pseudo-free-to-play, but didn’t get even remotely close to the level 20 cap before giving up on Kerychtyrr, my zombie warlock. The gameplay felt completely repetitive, just talking to NPCs and killing x amount of y enemies to complete quests. Bird, why you do this to me… [Continue Reading]

Team Fortress 2 Monopoly: Board Game Review

A non-gaming friend got me TF2 Monopoly for my birthday last year, and it’s been sitting on my shelf ever since. I’ve been meaning to review it for a while now, but my heart wasn’t really in it because I pretty much just expected a cash grab where they renamed the properties after maps and added some custom playing pieces. Plus I unfortunately don’t live in a situation where I can convince my friends to play board games with me unless I can lure them in with promises of getting to shoot or stab each other. However, I’m glad Retro… [Continue Reading]

TM352 Web, Mobile and Cloud Technologies – A Review

It seems weird to review an Open University course but I feel like I should, considering that it’s the last Open University course I did and I had very, very mixed opinions about it. While I enjoyed TM352 more than those infernal design courses (looking at you, TM356), I found this course to be… weird. There were problems in TM352 that I didn’t have at all in other courses. At first glance, the content of TM352 is pretty technical and enjoyable. The first block was definitely enjoyable. It did somewhat throw you into the deep end a little bit if… [Continue Reading]

Avengers Endgame – A Review Of Sorts

Avengers Endgame was awesome! Thanos got the Infinity Stones and half the universe died- wait, wrong movie. That was Infinity War. Still, Avengers Endgame was a bloody awesome film with good pacing, awesome music as always and a mind-boggling plot. Really, I should review it, since that’s what everyone else is doing. First off though, there will be spoilers. They’ll be at the end of the article with a massive spoiler warning in advance. You have been warned. Although I will warn you now, there’s no end-credits scene. Not that this movie really needs it. The credits themselves though are… [Continue Reading]

Drunken Wrestlers 2

I don’t know why, but there’s something incredibly enjoyable about fighting games with rag doll physics. Gang Beasts will always have a place in my heart but when brother said he’d found a fun fighting game, of course we all had to join in. Drunken Wrestlers 2 is a free-to-play early access game on Steam with characters that are just as drunk and derpy as the ones from Gang Beasts. Gameplay is quite simple. You move around with WASD, sprint with Shift, block with Space and attack with the arrow keys. But you have to target who you are fighting… [Continue Reading]

A Risk of Rain

Risk of Rain was a game I never really fancied playing. I had seen people play it on streams, but the idea of a 2D shooter game with elements of platforming and random items never appealed to me. A 2D game with all that, which started hard and only got more difficult, made Risk of Rain a game I’d probably avoid. But somehow, you put Risk of Rain into a 3D environment and suddenly I’m having fun. Brother recommended that I try Risk of Rain 2, simply because it was 1+1 free, and him and sister were already going to… [Continue Reading]

Looking Back at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Some people might be wondering whether this article has been published late or not. No, not really. In fact, it’s an article I’ve considered writing for a while. But it’s only been recently that I’ve been able to re-watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And honestly? It’s really, really dropped in regards to as how good a movie I think it is. The thing is, I don’t have a prior article. I swore I wrote a review for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (which I’m shortening to GOTG2 from now on) but it turns out I wrote one… [Continue Reading]

Woo, 2019!

Where the fuck did 2018 go? One second it was January, the next it was April, August flew by, September was nonexistent and I don’t even remember where November went! And now it’s January 1st, 2019! Yeah. 2019. Somehow. Seriously, the time dragon has really sped things up over the course of 2018, hasn’t he? Anyway, 2018 was… eh, it was okay, I guess? It wasn’t an amazing year but it wasn’t a really horrible year either. Just another average year. There were some cool games released, like the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon remasters, Monster Hunter World, Hitman… [Continue Reading]

Fallout 4, Beauty and Grace with Radiation

“I got you a game!” Brother says as he throws a plastic bag at me. “Noooo!” I scream as I stare at my overflowing Steam library, filled with unplayed games. “It’s Fallout 4 though! Game of the Year version! Only cost €15!” Brother counters, thrusting the game into my hands. “You like Fallout, right?” Actually, I don’t really like Fallout. It’s a cool world but it’s too slow and too close to real life. I’ve always been way more of a fantasy person, never been a fan of post-apocalyptic scenarios in radiation-filled landscapes. But Fallout 4 was a gift and… [Continue Reading]
