Board Games: Cash ‘N Guns & Bloodbound

One of the coolest parts about attending the UCSC Games & Playable Media program is the games lounge on the second floor. It’s a large room with a bunch of gaming consoles, board games, and tabletop RPG books, and I’ve been able to play all sorts of different board games in the last year. Two of them really stood out as amazing party games that I’ve purchased my own copies of, and I wanted to pay them some lip service. If you’re the sort who looks for games that large groups can enjoy, I highly recommend these two, especially because… [Continue Reading]

Solo – A Late Movie Review

I’d been meaning to see Solo: A Star Wars Story on release, or at least a week after with my brother Terroxy. Somehow my Star Wars-hating sister Nommy saw it first, and it MUST have been a good movie because she enjoyed it. “It’s not a Star Wars movie!” Nommy protests. Yeah no, you like a Star Wars movie. Don’t lie to us. But me and Terroxy saw it late, the 7:45pm showing on Saturday 16th of June. And we had the WHOLE SCREEN to ourselves. Literally just the two of us in the cinema. That was cool. So yeah,… [Continue Reading]

Driver San Francisco is FUCKING INSANE

Driver San Francisco is a fucking insane game. Fucking insane. Beyond words. I’ll start with the fact that I played the original Driver game. And the original Driver game was fucking good. I had it on the Playstation back when I was 8 and mum had to do the first level, because the first level was the hardest one in the game – you had to complete a series of tests in a small car park – three fuck ups and you had to start from the very beginning. It was by far the hardest mission in the game because… [Continue Reading]

World of Goo

World of Goo is a nice game. It’s a cute game. It’s also kinda weird and has hints of a dystopian future controlled by ruthless corporations. But it’s good. I also had no idea where I got it from until I checked my Humble Bundle account. World of Goo, alongside a bunch of other small games like Fieldrunners and Osmos, was one of my very few Humble Bundle purchases, mostly because the games were DRM free. In fact, I actually used to have World of Goo installed on my previous smart phone. I have it on Steam, I have it… [Continue Reading]

A Very Late Look At: Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell

On a whim, I decided to give Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell a try. I loved Saints Row: the Third, I liked Saints Row 2 whenever it worked but I didn’t like Saints Row 4. I thought maybe Gat Out of Hell might be a bit of improvement. I don’t know. It’s all just… strange. I mean, right off the bat, you’re not playing as the Boss. You’re playing as Johnny Gat, the Boss’s long time best buddy who got killed off in Saints Row 3 and written back to life in Saints Row 4. Or you can play… [Continue Reading]

Pacific Rim: Uprising – Review!

As a pre-birthday treat, I got to see Pacific Rim: Uprising with the family on the 31st. And it was a good movie. Genuinely a bit of fun. The story follows on from the previous Pacific Rim, being set 10 or so years later after the big victory. They’re still using Jaegars for various bits and pieces, mainly just policing but only seem to have like 5 of them total. And there’s enough scrapyards everywhere that some random kid manages to build a small, single-pilot one. Anyway, there’s been no activity but they’re still training people just in case and… [Continue Reading]

The Black Panther Movie – A Kinda Late Review

So I saw the Black Panther movie. There was none of that nonsense about going to ‘x-only’ screenings or anything like that (same with literally any other movie here) because I live on a tiny little island and the demographic who want to see this film simply don’t care and just want to watch a movie. But it’s a Marvel movie and my brother was desperate to see it, so we went on cheap Tuesday to watch it. Basically? It’s a good movie. Not groundbreaking. Not mind-blowing. Not racist or in your face or insensitive or anything like that. It’s… [Continue Reading]

RIP My Anker Gaming Mouse

After just under three years, my beloved Anker Gaming Mouse died. Really, it’s a bit late to do a review of this mouse since they’re no longer being sold, but fuck it, my poor mouse deserves a decent eulogy after it was unceremoniously thrown into a bin due to it not really being recyclable locally. My mouse died a sudden death, with the wiring going, the thumb buttons breaking and the scroll wheel becoming inoperable all within a couple of days. I shall now sing praises for my mouse. The mouse, bought on Amazon and no longer available, either from… [Continue Reading]

Surviving the Internet…

The fourth Jack Box Party Pack is an interesting one. A very mixed bag of games, many of which honestly go on for way too fucking long. The five games are a little all over the place. Although for a while for us there were only four games because Civic Doodle didn’t work for some stupid reason. I’ve been playing these with the siblings, the parents and some friends and it’s just mixed everywhere. Mostly. Fibbage 3 is just like Fibbage 1 and 2, it isn’t amazingly new or anything even if the art is kinda nice. There’s a new… [Continue Reading]

Flipping Tables, Uno Decks and Exploding Kittens – Tabletop Simulator

My siblings have been begging me to play Tabletop Simulator for ages. I never understood why because we have a large amount of board games at home already, as well as multiple decks of cards. We have Cards against Humanity, the basic pack, and I’m considering buying some expansion packs because of how much awful fun we’ve had playing that game. Tabletop Simulator seems like the sort of thing one would try if all your friends lived in a different country and you desperately wanted to play games together. That’s exactly what it is. Tabletop Simulator is a way to… [Continue Reading]
