Pokemon That Are Useless But I Don’t Have the Heart to Transfer them

Really, Pokemon GO is a pretty grim game. The majority of Pokemon you collect, they are chucked away and transferred, because they’re not very useful. Only the cream of the crop are allowed to stick around, and eventually even some of the better Pokemon get transferred away, to make space for Pokemon that are slightly better. Otherwise, in the end, you run out of backpack space. So space had to be made and Pokemon have to be sacrificed.

Despite all this, I am a bit of a hoarder of Pokemon. I have so many that I’ve meant to transfer and never got around to doing so.

The most common culprit is shiny Pokemon. Particular Pokemon from Community Days. When you find a lot of shinies, it’s hard to decide what to keep. Of course, you want to keep the good ones, but what about all the others? Some PvP-based Pokemon can get away with having stats below a 2 star ranking, but that’s still a small minority of Pokemon. Shiny or otherwise, you can easily end up with a pile of un-evolved Pokemon just sitting there, taking up space. Costumed Pokemon are just as bad, if not worse. A Wurmple with a Party Hat is awesome, but there’s no need to ever have more than one. Or even have one at all.

A lot of Legendary Pokemon are the same way. I never understood how people could do so many legendary raids. Even the amount of raids I’ve done as a semi-casual player, I end up with a bunch of 2-star Legendary Pokemon that aren’t of any use to anyone. The best you can do is trade a crappy Legendary and hope it becomes lucky. But you can only do that once a day, and if you have a lot of Pokemon, the time spent just isn’t worth it. Instead, these 2-stare Legendaries just have to wait for a double transfer candy event, so you can make as much candy as possible.

But then there’s the more useless Legendary Pokemon. What do you do with Pokemon like Heatran and the three Lake Spirits? I personally have two 98% shiny Heatrans and one 96% shiny Heatran. None of them are going anywhere. But Heatran and the Lake Spirits are not useful Pokemon, and they also end up taking up precious space. Sure, I use Heatran for Team Rocket fights, but most people don’t use them at all. The same applies to the three genie Legendary Pokemon. In their Incarnate forms, all three of them are useless. And as for their Therian forms, only Thundurus and Landorus have any real use.

And then there’s gimmicks. Everyone likes to collect something, and I’m no different. I have a large collection of Pokemon with the CP of 666. Why am I collecting Pokemon that are exactly 666CP? Because I find it amusing. I’m not even the only person to do it. My brother collects ‘nice’ Pokemon, all of whom are 69CP. His collection of nice is pretty impressive. But these also take up a lot of backpack space. And they are all genuinely useless.

At the end of the day, the real answer to this problem is to buy more backpack space. But there’s a limit on how much capacity you can buy. And frankly, none of these Pokemon really get seen. Sure, I have 66 Pokemon with a CP of 666, but no one cares aside from me. They’re just taking up space that I can fill with more shinies and Legendaries, most of which don’t get used, past the initial six good ones.

Either way, I can’t help but hoard Pokemon. Just gotta buy more backpack space.
