Pokemon That Would Be Awesome If They Had Better Moves

Not all Pokemon are equal. And not all Pokemon get added to Pokemon GO. But sometimes Pokemon are added and they turn out to be completely useless. Normally, this applies to ‘early game’ Pokemon like Pidgey or Weedle, but it turns out that even legendary Pokemon can be completely screwed over, just because they don’t have a good selection of moves to choose from. Here are five unlucky Pokemon that are really missing out.

Xerneas

Xerneas is one of my favourite legendary Pokemon, but it’s in a terrible state currently. As I mentioned in this article, Xerneas is stuck with really, really bad fast moves, neither of which really even fit poor Xerneas. Sure, Zen Headbutt kinda goes with the horns, but it’s such a bad move that you might as well not bother. In Xerneas’s case here, the lack of a fairy type fast move means that even Granbull is better than Xerneas.

Unfortunately, Xerneas doesn’t learn Charm. If it did, then Xerneas would be great. But Xerneas can’t learn Charm in the main games, and most of the other fairy moves Xerneas learns are all charge attacks.

Kyurem

The icy dragon Kyurem has a problem, and it’s the fact that Kyurem doesn’t know any icy fast moves. It is at some point going to learn Glaciate, which is an ice type charge move, but in order to make the most of it, Kyurem needs a fast move to back it up. Sadly, Kyurem just doesn’t cut it, with only Dragon Breath and Steel Wing as its fast moves. To make matters worse, Kyurem isn’t a great dragon attacker either, only having Dragon Claw (which does little damage) and Draco meteor (a dragon type move that takes ages to charge up).

Luckily, the future is bright for Kyurem. It has not one but two separate forms, both of which promise to be very powerful. Sure, it involves fusing a Kyurem and a Reshiram or Zekrom into each other, but if it’s like any of the other form changes and mega evolutions in Pokemon GO, Black and White Kyurem are very promising.

Ursaluna

It seems weird to pick Ursaluna among all these legendary Pokemon. But I bring it up because it got a Community Day that did little to actually make Ursaluna good. I mean, the Pokemon debuted as a completely new evolution from the Hisuian region, so it’d have to get some good moves, right?

Well, no. The best moves for Ursaluna are Return and High Horsepower, which are insanely hard to get on one single Pokemon, requiring an elite TM. But Ursaluna has nothing to back up those charge moves. Ursaluna’s fast attacks are Tackle and Rock Smash, both completely useless. If Ursaluna had a ground type fast move, then it’d be absolutely fine.

Palkia

Funnily enough, Palkia isn’t a bad Pokemon. It works perfectly fine as a dragon type, even if it’s not as damaging as Rayzquaza. We have a lot of dragon types readily available though, so it’s easy to leave Palkia out. However, there would be a great place for Palkia elsewhere; it’s alsoa water type, which gives it access to some nice charge moves. Unfortunately though, Palkia doesn’t have a water type fast move, so it can’t make the most of its water typing. Palkia’s rival Dialga does much better, being tankier and having better moves. There is space for Palkia, but it’s still waiting for a water move.

Regigigas

Regigigas is a colossal Pokemon, tied to creation and making the original Regis – Regirock, Regice and Registeel. However, when it comes to Regigigas itself, it… isn’t particularly powerful. At least, it’s not a good Pokemon in Pokemon GO. In fact, Regigigas has the same problem Xerneas has – it has god-awful fast attacks. Tackle and Hidden Power. Both are bad, but Hidden Power is particularly bad because it has a random type. Unless you luck out and get Hidden Power Fighting. But even then, it’s still a pitiful move and lacks STAB. Surely there could be a better normal type you can give this guy?!?

But Regigigas has one last problem. It’s a normal type. And normal types aren’t very useful in Pokemon GO. Oh well.

So there we have it, five potentially powerful Pokemon who could all do with a bit of help.
