Dark Spooky Forest Week: Alan Wake

This is not my first article to mention Alan Wake. (You’re gonna see me say that a lot about the games this week.) It’s one of only two games that I enjoyed enough to finish replaying on the hardest difficulty, and I’ve played a lot of games so that’s really saying something. (Though admittedly I did have developer commentary on). Alan Wake was released in 2010 by Remedy Studios, who are most well-known for the Max Payne series, and if you’ve played them you’ll feel quite at home with Alan Wake’s movement/shooting mechanics. The plot is unashamedly inspired by Stephen… [Continue Reading]

Alan Wake Is Getting Removed From Steam

Alan Wake is one of my favorite games of all time, as evidenced by the number of articles that reference it despite me never explicitly dedicating one to it or its sequel Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.  The story-driven narrative is exciting and suspenseful, with a cast of memorable characters and a plot that feels like living through a Stephen King novel, interspersed with Twilight Zone-style twists and framed around a flashlight-based combat system that never lets you fully feel in control of the situation. Well, if you’re hoping to buy Alan Wake for yourself, don’t dally because at the end of this weekend… [Continue Reading]

Control (2019) Review

When I bought Control back in 2019, I told myself I wouldn’t release a review until I’d completed the game. This wasn’t an unusual stance for me, as why would I review a game I hadn’t finished? However, 3½ years later and after countless attempts to revive my playthrough after taking multi-month breaks, I’m giving up. According to the Wiki I’m on story mission 7 of 10, and that’s where I’m calling it. Sorry. I want to add a large caveat that my complaints with this game are extremely subjective. Most of my friends enjoyed it, and you’ll probably like… [Continue Reading]

Army Gals – Visual Novel Review

I’m still not sure why I decided to buy a visual novel for the first time, I guess it was something of an impulse buy since I was just bored of all my current games. It’s possible you’ve noticed, considering I’ve contributed only one article this April. But I was scrolling through the New Releases on Steam, saw Army Gals was both brand new and discounted and thought “Eh, why not?” Army Gals is the most recent release from Dharker Studio, a Kickstarter-funded company who releases visual novels that come with off-Steam patches to add nudity and adult content for those… [Continue Reading]

The M14

The term ‘battle rifle’ refers to any military-grade rifle that fires a full-power cartridge. They’re heavier than assault rifles, have stronger recoils and often default to semi-automatic, meaning that their usage has died down considerably and they callback to the WWII era of weaponry. That being said, they’re still found in all branches of the American military today, and with the M14 being one of the most famous battle rifles, its lengthy career has made it a standard sight in the arsenals of various first-person shooters. Due to its roots as a battle rifle, it’s a popular choice for filling the “semi-auto… [Continue Reading]

The Gun That Won the West

I wrote a few articles in the past talking about some of my favorite firearms in video games, and after replaying Half Life 2 and seeing Father Grigori using the Winchester rifle I realized I needed to dedicate an article to the Wild West classic that didn’t stay dead. The Winchester rifle is an iconic firearm in western period pieces, designed for horseback riding and utilizing a lever-action reloading system that, while used by many guns at the time, nowadays is almost synonymous with the Winchester name itself. It’s a high-powered single-shot rifle with an iconic appearance, and that’s more than enough… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon GO

I’m pretty sure I’m not the first person you’ve met who’s recommended you try out Pokemon GO. The mobile app game has taken the entire universe by storm, quickly becoming the most downloaded thing ever, surpassing even the internet and stolen cars. However, in light of recent events, I must taper what would have been a 100% glowing review just a few weeks ago. I first turned the game on August 8th, shortly after it first went live in America. The first Pokemon that greeted me was a Squirtle right in my bedroom! After wasting so many Pokeballs on him… [Continue Reading]

Mac-10 & Cheese

Recently I talked about my brother’s primary weapon in his airsoft loadout, the SCAR rifle. His backup weapon is the Mac-10 SMG, which has an equally-illustrious career in video game history: The MAC-10 is an extremely compact submachine gun capable of spraying a truly devastating stream of bullets in a very inaccurate cone. This is not a sharpshooter’s weapon. Because of its high damage and compact frame, it has a reputation for being a criminal weapon, often appearing in the hands of villainous, poor or seedy factions. Left 4 Dead 2 factored this into the weapon’s design according to the developer’s commentary, which… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 7

Today, I’m going to be getting the fire badge! And where is the fire gym located? Back in Motostoke! Can we just get a sky taxi to go back there? We can! But the game wants me to go through this mine. Mostly for plot reasons. The first thing I see in said mine is Bede, the trainer that was endorsed by Rose. And of course, he wants to fight. Luckily, I manage to nuke all his Pokemon. Including his Galarian ponyta. Out of instinct, I actually brought out a water type, thinking that this Ponyta was a fire type.… [Continue Reading]

Playing with Bots

Bot games are something of a staple in online multiplayer PvP games. Sometimes, if you want to just have a stress-free round or a warm-up session before a proper match, you boot up a bot game and spend some time clicking on robot heads. Sometimes you want to test out something you came across for the first time, or maybe you just want to know how many shots does it take to kill someone with a particular gun. And sometimes, if the playercount of a particular game is too low in your region, or the servers are down or gone,… [Continue Reading]
