Swablu Community Day

Swablu has always kinda annoyed me. People complain about other lazy Pokemon designs all the time. While Trubbish gets dumped on for being rubbish, I feel Swablu is also lazy. It’s literally just a blue ball with some wings made of clouds. However, Swablu is a pain in the butt in other ways. It’s the Magikarp of its generation but it just evolves into a bigger blue ball with wings. And gets the dragon typing. Swablu is still kinda popular though, enough so that it has a Mega Evolution. And here in Pokemon GO, it also got a Community Day.… [Continue Reading]

Smug Snake Community Day

It’s been ages since we had a Community Day for a starter. The last one was for Piplup in January 2020. So, really, a Community Day for Snivy, the first of the Sinnoh starters, was long overdue. The little smug snake finally got what it deserved, with a nice, sunny community day. A pretty standard Community Day. This community day wasn’t much different from the Roselia or Machop Community Days. There’s 30 free ultra balls in the shop, and there’s one Pokemon spawning everywhere. Luckily for me, it was sunny pretty much all day, meaning all the Snivies spawning everywhere… [Continue Reading]

Fletchling Community Day

What’s that? A community day? Already? These seem to come more and more quickly, I swear. March’s 2021 Community Day is actually kinda special. Why? Because it’s the first March Community Day since 2019, as 2020’s March Community Day was skipped. And, to celebrate, we’re getting Fletchling, the tiny, fiery sparrow thing! A Pokemon that evolves into a fan favourite, Talonflame. New shiny! Yes, we’re actually getting a brand new shiny. And one that ISN’T a Kanto Pokemon! Fletchling can now be shiny, and if you evolved it during the Community Day event, Talonflame would learn the fast move Incinerate.… [Continue Reading]

My Thoughts on Community Days with PvP-Orientated Moves

Over the last year or so, pretty much every Community Day has been the same. It’s a not very new shiny, that gets a move designed for PvP. The last Pokemon that got a move useful for PvP was Rhydon with Rock Wrecker, back in February 2020. Before then, we had a basic pattern of “cool Pokemon” then “Starter Pokemon”. But 2020 changed all that by bringing back repeat candidates and having… unusual moves. Of course, this hasn’t made everyone happy. And, of course, I’m going to give my opinions on the matter. To be fair, there’s only so much… [Continue Reading]

Roselia Community Day

When I was a noob, Roselia was the bane of my existence. It was the most common grass spawn around and Roselia is the first and pretty much only raid I failed to beat. Mostly because I was level 6 and had no fire types at all except for one wild 1000CP Houndoom. Also, apparently, I was such a noob back then that I also missed not only an Eevee community day but Roselia’s shiny release. During the initial release of shiny Roselia, the chances were boosted to almost community day levels. However, I never even noticed. In fact, I… [Continue Reading]

Machop Community Day

Another month, another Community Day. And, amusingly, yet another Kanto Pokemon! It’s actually been a long year of Kanto Community Days, but at least February 2021 brings us Machop. Machop is a great little Pokemon because it evolves into the much-loved and much-used Machamp. Machamp is a useful Pokemon and this is a great way to get a bunch. Even though we have better fighting types, Machamp is still third best. But Machamp is actually superior to both Lucario and Conkldurr for a big reason: Lucario and Conkldurr are FUCKING RARE. They are insanely rare Pokemon and it’s hard to… [Continue Reading]

Thoughts on the December Community Weekend of 2020

December Community Day events are always interesting. Unlike previous months, which featured one Pokemon, December ones feature the whole year’s lineup. In 2018, this was quite a treat, as the Pokemon in the 2018 community days were ALL incredibly good. 2019 was also pretty good, since the 2018 Pokemon were in raids and eggs, and, again, almost all the 2019 featured Pokemon were great. Aside from Slakoth. 2020 though is a different story. Most of 2020’s community days have been… weird. The Pokemon are almost ALL Kanto ones. The only exceptions are Piplup and Seedot. Everything else is completely Kanto,… [Continue Reading]

Electabuzz and Magmar Community Days

Community Day in November came with a twist this year! Instead of the normal one community day, we got two! November’s Community Days featured Magmar and Electabuzz, as well as shiny babies and shiny evolutions. It was both a pleasant change and, well, a bit of a drag. But at least we got two cool shinies out of it! Straight to the point, Magmar Community Day was better than Electabuzz Community Day These community days ran one week after the other. Electabuzz Community Day was on Sunday 15th and Magmar Community Day was on Saturday 21st. Which meant most people… [Continue Reading]

Porygon Community Day – Eh

Porygon was the winner of the community day vote back in August, a vote that was done on Twitter. Considering the other options in the vote, it’s no wonder Porygon won. Charmander has featured in multiple events and already had a community day. Grimer already has two shiny forms and, worse, the Alolan one would be restricted to raids only. And Caterpie is, well, Caterpie. But even then, Porygon community day has been… meh. “Why did Porygon even win?” That’s a good question. Porygn isn’t an amazing Pokemon. But, compared to the other options, it kinda is. Porygon didn’t have… [Continue Reading]

Magikarp Community Day – Meh?

Magikarp seems like a really strange pick for a Community Day. It was the first Pokemon to get a shiny in Pokemon Go. Yet here it is, having a Community Day. But I suppose complaining isn’t too bad. Ever since I started playing in Pokemon Go, I’ve only come across two shiny Magikarps, one of which got traded (and somehow became lucky) and is a Gyarados now. So a Community Day for Magikarp isn’t that awful. At the very least, it gives people a chance to evolve a Magikarp they’ve had sitting around for ages. At best, you finally get… [Continue Reading]
