What’s Wrong with Niantic’s Pricing Lately?

Something is going on at Niantic HQ. For the last few months, they have been doing weird experiments with things in the shop. We’ve had new boxes come and leave the store, with weird contents in all their boxes. Originally, boxes in Pokemon GO tended to do several things. One would be dedicated to hatching eggs, the other gives gear for raids. Then there would be a smaller box with a mixture of both. The smaller box would cost around 400 coins, which was often an alright deal. However, we’ve recently seen some very weird boxes in the shop, including… [Continue Reading]

5 Reasons Why You Need a Melmetal in Pokemon GO

Melmetal is a very curious Pokemon. It is a Mythical Pokemon but it’s also an evolved Pokemon. For a while, I underestimated how useful Melmetal could be, because he’s got a rather unusual pool of abilities, but only just works as a steel-type attacker. However, over the years, my opinion has changed greatly, and Melmetal is now one of my must-have Pokemon, having served me well and also having kicked a lot of ass Here are five reasons why you should get (and power up) a Melmetal. Easy-ish to obtain This sounds like a weird thing to say. After all,… [Continue Reading]

The Curiosity that is Meltan

The other day, while I was making room in my backpack in Pokemon GO, I scrolled past the Mysterious Box. This box is obtained by transferring a Pokemon to either Pokemon Let’s Go! or Pokemon Home. Opening the box releases a mysterious scent that attracts a very unusual Pokemon. This Pokemon is Meltan, the most unusual of Mythical Pokemon. A Unique Mythical It turns out, Meltan is unique in a lot of different ways. Not only is Meltan a Pokemon you can get multiple of, but it’s also the only mythical that is obtained outside of the main Pokemon game… [Continue Reading]

On Solo’ing a Deoxys

When it comes to one-player raids in Pokemon GO, the average player can easily do one-star raids and complete three-star raids with little trouble. Unless it’s a three-star Shuckle raid. Those things are tanky. However, the idea of a solo player beating a level 5 raid is often out of the question. There ARE ways of soloing some raids, but they often require a full party of shadows, a Mega Pokemon or both. Over the years though, with better Legendaries, Community Days with strong moves and just better moves in general, the task of solo-ing a level 5 raid becomes… [Continue Reading]

Hoopa in Pokemon GO and Hope for Transformations

November was a pretty interesting month in Pokemon GO. While we’ve had various themed seasons so far, November ended with a pretty cool bit of special research. Rather than rewarding you with a Legendary or Mythical at the end, we got Hoopa early on. This was then followed by a secondary quest, in which we unlocked something awesome. The ability to change Hoopa’s form, from its normal version to its unbound version. Hoopa Unbound, within Reach The ability to change a Pokemon’s form in Pokemon GO is actually a pretty new feature. We first saw it with Furfrou, a weird… [Continue Reading]

A Season of Misunderstood Mischief

For this season of Pokemon GO, things have been a tad different. It’s been multiple months of mischief. And along side it, we actually have a quest for a new Mythical Pokemon. However, unlike normal Mythical Pokemon quests, Hoopa’s quest has a small twist on things. A good idea in theory Misunderstood Mischief is an attempt to do something new. Rather than just release the entire quest in one go, Misunderstood Mischief is designed to work alongside current events in Pokemon GO. Each of the research’s steps tied in with concurrent events, making it a tad easier to follow. In… [Continue Reading]

One-Time Mythical Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Mythical Pokemon are weird. They’re simply not like other Pokemon. The vast majority of Pokemon are caught within games of Pokemon, whether it’s the original Red and Blue, current generation 8 Pokemon or even side games like Pokemon GO and Snap. However, with mythical Pokemon, it really does depend. Many Mythical Pokemon are somewhat withheld from normal, natural gameplay. Instead, they are given away as promos and prizes in various events. This can make filling a Pokedex a tad tricky and awkward to do. But, luckily, with Pokemon Home and Pokemon Go, you can much more easily catch Mythical Pokemon.… [Continue Reading]

Seven Hours for a Zarude

All of a sudden, we are swimming in special research. Pokemon GO does tend to have a lot of research tasks. But many of them are based on an event and just give a handful of extra rewards. On the flip side, we’ve also had a lot of special research, which can be done at our leisure. Currently, we have Hoopa research and Meloetta research. But on October 1st, we got something that’s genuinely really new. Zarude Special Research Yep, before the many Mythical Pokemon we don’t have, we had a Zarude research task thrown at us. The only real… [Continue Reading]

Distracted by Something Shiny – A Free Shiny Celebi

The other day, I mentioned how shiny Mew would be locked behind a €12 ticket for a Pokemon GO event. Shiny Mew is insanely rare and nigh impossible to get a hold of legitimately. So selling it seems kinda weird. At the very same time though, a tie-in with the latest Pokemon Movie has been released, and comes with another shiny. Shiny Celebi, another mythical Pokemon, is the reward for a Special Research called Distracted by Something Shiny. A special research with Jessie and James! I was actually kinda surprised to get a vaguely animated cut scene sort of thing… [Continue Reading]

The Many Problems With Implementing Arceus into Pokemon Go

One of the more minor problems with Pokemon in general is that they never realised how successful Pokemon would be, and ended up introducing the literal god of the Pokemon universe in Generation 4. A Mythical Pokemon by the name of Arceus. Which a 10 year old kid can catch in a Pokeball. Now, you can only really meet Arceus in the Generation 4 games, and Arceus has a lot of special abilities. Most notably, Arceus can change its Type based on what special item it’s holding, and its signature move, Judgement, deals damage based on Arceus’s type. Now that… [Continue Reading]
