Please Keep The Gold Pokestops and Leafy Decorations

For Halloween, Pokemon GO had a small, visual update. The over-world map was spruced up with Halloween-y decorations, and were also upgraded to be a little more accurate. We also got orange Pokestops and carved pumpkins to match the Halloween mood. Alongside the visual changes, we also got a nice remix of the music from Lavender Town, all the way back from gen 1. After the Halloween event though, all the vibrant autumn colours disappeared and we returned to that old, familiar, infinitely green or blue over-world. Frankly, the Halloween over-world looked great, and it was a shame that it… [Continue Reading]

Small, Amusing, Pointless things I want in Pokemon GO

I love Pokemon GO. It’s one of the few games I can lazily play, no matter where I am and where my phone is. All I have to do is go for a walk and catch a few Pokemon as I do so. However, there are a few little tiny things I want to see in Pokemon GO. Some serious, some… not so serious. Watch out, this is a long list… Iron Head users should bounce balls back more frequently. This idea is the idea that pushed me into making this article. Basically, if you have a buddy that knows… [Continue Reading]

We should just make all passes remote passes.

Right now, I have about 15 Pokecoins in Pokemon Go. At the same time, I am kinda in the middle of nowhere. So there are no local gyms around, which means I can’t get any coins, and I definitely can’t do any raids. There is one red gym within a reasonable distance, but it not only hasn’t had good raids on it, but it’s also fiercely defended by one person. Simply put, anything gym-related is out of reach for me. No Pokecoins, no gym battles and no decent raids at all. Especially since that red gym has had no good… [Continue Reading]

Research Breakthroughs Completely Suck

Today, as I do every week, I completed my seven days of research and was given a Research Breakthroughy. Breakthroughs are a reward for playing regularly and doing research tasks. You get some supplies, some experience and an encounter with a Pokemon, which normally changes with every new month. However, the quality of these rewards varies greatly. To the point of pointlessness. The old days were best Back in 2019, when research breakthroughs became a thing, the rewards from research breakthroughs were genuinely awesome. They’d mostly be a Legendary of some sort. And not just the Kanto legendary Birbs either… [Continue Reading]

Dratini Classic Community Day

Classic Community Days are odd. They bring back an old Pokemon from a previous Community Day and basically do it all again. For November, our classic Pokemon was Dratini, the cute little snakey dragon Pokemon. I happen to really like Dratini and Dragonair, so a chance to stock up on fresh shinies is nice. But this classic day was slightly odd. Cute shiny, mediocre move Dratini has one of the cutest shinies in Pokemon, especially in Gen 1. It goes a wonderful bright pink, matching its pink eyes. Dragonair is just as beautiful, and is one of my favourite Pokemon,… [Continue Reading]

Another Ramble about Costumed Pokemon

As of writing, we are on part 2 of a two-part Halloween event in Pokemon GO. Alongside all your normal ghost types, this year, we have a ton of new costumed Pokemon. But these costumed Pokemon are different. They can evolve. Yep, we got a costumed Vulpix and a costumed Pumpkaboo, and both of them can evolve into Ninetails and Gourgeist, keeping their costumes as they do so. Both of the basic Pokemon are also shiny-eligible but, although you can find wild Ninetails and Gourgeist with the costumes on, they can’t be shiny. Pretty common stuff with the shiny versions,… [Continue Reading]

Zorua Is Both Here and Obvious

After a very, very long wait, Zorua is finally available in Pokemon GO. Debuting in the Halloween Event Part 2, Zorua had a rocky start and was initially disabled, but it was released towards the end of the event, ready to disguise itself. Because that’s what this familiar, well-loved Pokemon does. And who does it disguise as? Our buddies, of course. Zorua is very obvious. Normally, spawning disguised as your buddy sounds pretty cool. Especially if you’re walking something like a Noibat or perhaps a Deino. Seeing something rare on your Pokemon radar will make you rush over to it.… [Continue Reading]

Remote Raid Passes are the Future Now

Back when people actually cared about COVID and remained indoors, Niantic, the makers of Pokemon GO, released Remote Raid Passes. These passes allowed you to fight in raids at a distance, rather than having to be within 40m of a gym. As the majority of people couldn’t go outside, a big chunk of Pokemon GO was now inaccessible. Remote Raid Passes made gyms accessible again. As an added bonus, you could get 3 passes for 250 coins, saving yourself 50 coins for other things. Basically, pretty much everyone liked Remote Raid Passes. Not only did they mean you can play… [Continue Reading]

A War Over A New Gym

In Cyprus, there’s not really much going on between Pokemon GO’s three teams, Valor, Mystic and Instinct. It’s not too difficult to get your 50 coins a day, and contests over gyms only really happened before raids, so you get extra Pokeballs when catching your Legendary Pokemon. But normally, the use of gyms where I live isn’t hectic. And the few places that are hectic, they’re always in the tourist areas. However, not every Gym is that peaceful or quiet. Especially the one down the road. A new gym? So, recently, I moved house. I moved from one side of… [Continue Reading]

Rambling over Raid Hours

Every Wednesday, at 6pm local time, we get a raid hour in Pokemon GO. Whatever the current 5 star raid is, it will appear on pretty much every gym, and will stick around for, obviously, an hour before despawning. The raid hour lasts from 6pm to 7pm and can be done in person or remotely. Raid hour also works as a nice way to socialize with other players. It’s a good idea to get more raids done. Raid Hours are pretty fun. It’s an opportunity to get Legendary raids done with a small group who normally would be too scattered… [Continue Reading]
