I am Loving these Throwback Challenges in Pokemon Go

Over the last few weeks, we’ve had a throwback event. The event has been split into parts, one for each of the current regions of Pokemon in Pokemon Go. We started with Kanto and, at the time of writing, are in the Sinnoh week. This will be followed by a Unova-based event. And, honestly, these events have been really fun! Special Tasks for each Region. Every region has a series of tasks that rewards a Legendary Pokemon at the end. Kanto gave us a Mewtwo with the exclusive move Psy Strike. Johto rewarded us with Ho-Oh and Earthquake. Hoenn’s task… [Continue Reading]

Some Parts of Pokemon Go’s PVP are Okay…

To say that I’ve been rather critical of Pokemon Go’s PvP system and the Go Battle League isn’t entirely accurate. Originally, when PvP battles between friends and Team Rocket Grunts came out, I enjoyed it. In fact, fighting Grunts is probably one of my favourite things in Pokemon Go. But there is an awful lot of hit and miss with PvP and battling in general. Today, I think we should discuss some of these hits and misses about battling in general, ignoring the Go Battle League and its myriad of problems. Pro: For a mobile battle system, it’s deceptively deep.… [Continue Reading]

The Snubbull Research Event Is How All Research Events Should Be

On May 9th, Pokemon Go had a research event featuring the weird clown dog Pokemon Snubbull. In the past, research events have always been very hit and miss. But I think Niantic have finally hit the nail on the head with the Snubbull research event. All you need to do is (mostly) catch Pokemon. Unlike previous research events, research for Snubbull is given to you directly, with a set of 3 tasks and a reward. Once you have done those 3 tasks and collected your rewards, then move on to 3 more tasks. Each task rewards you with a Snubbull,… [Continue Reading]

An Extreme Worry About The Change of Poke Coins in Pokemon Go

When I saw a news announcement pop up as I opened Pokemon Go, saying Poke Coins would be easier to get, I was happy. For about ten seconds. Frankly, Poke Coins are very hit or miss on how you obtain them. On the one hand, someone with lots of nearby gyms can get a small trickle of coins every day. Someone in the middle of nowhere might wait days to get their Pokemon to come back at all. The announcement seemed great at first. The idea that we can get Poke Coins by doing normal tasks sounds great, until you… [Continue Reading]

The Problems with Lucky Friends

After the strange Incense Sentret event, me and my brother did what we always do. We traded a bunch of the Pokemon we caught for extra candy. After the very first trade though, because it was our first interaction of the day, something special happened. Amazingly, after months and months, we became Lucky Friends! This meant we could do a trade and that trade would be guaranteed lucky. Because I had hatched two shiny Riolus, I decided to trade one to my brother. He traded me a shiny Mewtwo since he had a surplus of them. What happened next was… [Continue Reading]

Elite TMs, Rarity and the Problems with Too Much Choice

According to the Silph Road, a list of all the moves on Elite TMs has been revealed. Over 100 Pokemon are going to be able to obtain legacy moves, via the Elite TM. That’s a lot of Pokemon. the list of moves and Pokemon is huge, so we’ve got a big question on our hands? What the hell do we use these Elite TMs on? What is worth it and what isn’t? Frankly, I don’t know. And the decision is even harder because these TMs are so inaccessible, and there are simply so many moves. You currently can only get… [Continue Reading]

After 50ish GBL Fights, the Pokemon GO GBL still sucks

After getting a perfect shiny Mewtwo, I realised that something was missing. My Mewtwo needed a second move. And what other move could I give it other than Shadow Ball? To do so though, I would need an Elite TM. But the problem is, aside from potentially buying one with actual money via an event… I’d have to play PvP. That meant wading back into the GBL. And getting to rank 7. That meant a lot of work. If I wanted an Elite TM, I had to earn it. Now, frankly, my first few games in GBL didn’t go great.… [Continue Reading]

Abra Community Day – Probably One of the Better Days Yet

Gonna be honest, the Abra Community Day was great! Unlike many other community days, I feel like this one actually stands out! Lots of Abra, lots of chances to play even if you don’t get local spawns, and lots of shinies! They even made Abra easier to catch during the event. This event was great, and I want to talk about it. This was probably one of the most accessible Community Days yet. Normally, for a good community day, you need a place with good spawns and plenty of Pokestops. You need as many Pokeballs as you can get your… [Continue Reading]

A Worry About Remote Raid Passes

For obvious reasons, Niantic have had to make a lot of changes to Pokemon Go to ensure that people keep on playing and keep on spending money. Changes so far have included not needing to walk to enter the GBL, Incenses lasting 1 hour and reduced egg distances. A lot of these changes are beneficial, but some are questionable and some make no sense. After all, doubling gym range is only useful if you live near a gym. The most worrying thing though is the appearance of Remote Raid Passes. Now, firstly, this is speculation We’ve been given some information… [Continue Reading]

The Incense Shuffle Event Was a Sentret Event

On April 19th, Pokemon Go had its first genuine stay at home event! It involved the magical Incense and various types of Pokemon. And Sentret. Lots and lots of Sentret. From 11am until 5pm, we would get spawns based on different types, changing every hour. If you are lucky, you’ll get some rare spawns. If you are unlucky, you will see a billion Sentret. Also, there were NO changed spawns. Only Incense Pokemon were affected by the event. The event is simple: Use Incense, get Pokemon The type of Pokemon were based on different types. For the first hour, we… [Continue Reading]
