The Nidoran Limited Research Event

Normally I like these limited research events. Catch a bunch of Pokemon, do some tasks, maybe get a shiny. Normally you end up spending a ton of Pokeballs and resources but the shiny chances are often boosted. Not as much as community days, but still overall pretty good. That being said, we’ve had one per month for the last few months, and, well, I’m getting bored of them. Nidoran Limited Research is no different. Really, the only difference between the Nidoran Limited Research and those for Drifloon and Meowth is that there’s two Pokemon instead of one. Although, in all… [Continue Reading]

Alolan Marowak Raid Day

We haven’t had a raid day in ages. This year, most raid events have been week-long events so you don’t need to go outside too much, for obvious reasons. Aside from GO Fest, the black and white dragons, Giratina and Darkrai, most of the raids we’ve had weren’t amazing. We had the legendary horses earlier this year, the legendary genies and the legendary birds a few weeks ago. All stuff that, really, you don’t need, because there are plenty of good Pokemon elsewhere. Alolan Marowak is another Pokemon that no one really needs. It’s a rather glassy Pokemon that doesn’t… [Continue Reading]

A Random Drifloon Research Event

I’ve clearly not been paying much attention to Pokemon Go, because we have yet another community research event! This event, slap-bang in the middle of the Halloween event, is all about Drifloon! Drifloon is a cute little Pokemon that kidnaps kids if they mistake it for a real balloon. It also has the most adorable yellow and blue shiny ever, so I’m surprised that I nearly forgot about this event! Amazingly, I actually managed to get a shiny super early on. But since this research event also gives you lots of other cool rewards, it was still worth doing all… [Continue Reading]

Why Do We Even Care About Shiny Pokemon?

A while back, Articuno appeared in raids, with a potential to be shiny. Brother really wanted a shiny Articuno to complete his collection, and I wanted one too. Between us, with four accounts, we probably had about 50 chances to get a shiny Articuno. Out of all the raids we did, the only person to get a shiny Articuno was my little level 28 account, which only just has the right counters to fight Articuno in the first place. We weren’t alone. During the Tuesday raid hour, we were in a group of 15 accounts and we did 5 raids.… [Continue Reading]

A Look at GO FEST Day 1 – Your Mileage May Vary

I know GO Fest’s first day was yesterday, but I need time to write these articles. And I spent most of yesterday catching a fuckton of Pokemon. The day was split into various ‘biomes’, with different Pokemon spawning in each biome. This would change every hour, and was accompanied by some sort of global challenge. If players beat it, they’d be rewarded with some sort of bonus, like double stardust or double candy. We also had constant raids all day, with shortened timers, as well as a Welcome to Go Fest challenge which rewarded various Pokemon, including Blastoise, Venusaur, Charizard… [Continue Reading]

On The Increased Chances To Catch Shinies in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go was my third real look into Pokemon, outside of the old trading card game when I was very young and the anime with Ash and his omnipotent Pikachu, which I have watched both in English and in really badly dubbed Greek in which all the characters shared two voices. Technically, it’s the first proper Pokemon game I ever played, mainly because I just had all the wrong consoles, namely being a Playstation and PC person. This though has conditioned me to see super rare aspects in normal Pokemon games, like Shinies, Mythicals and Legendaries, in a completely different… [Continue Reading]

December Community Weekend

Pokemon Go decided to end community days for 2019 with a bang by repeating somewhat what they did in 2018, by having a community day weekend, bringing back all of the year’s community day Pokemon for one final send off before leaping into 2020, while also bringing back 2018’s Pokemon. So we get two things: a collection of Pokemon from 2019 and a collection of Pokemon from 2018. One of these was done really well. The other, not so much. When it comes to the implementation of the 2019 community day stuff, I couldn’t be happier. We get two days’… [Continue Reading]

The Very Sudden December Raid Event

All of a sudden, not only did we suddenly get a whole weird evolution themed event, centered around Pokemon who evolve with items or in other strange ways, but we also very weirdly got a three hour raid event, on Saturday the 7th. This raid event featured not Pokemon who evolve with items, nor Pokemon who evolve in other weird ways, but… just the Kanto Starter Pokemon and their evolutions. So we had Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander (in level 1 raids), Ivysaur, Wartortle, Charmeleon (in level 2 raids), Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard (in level 4 raids) popping up on all applicable… [Continue Reading]

It Finally Happened!

It finally happened! The thing I always wanted! After over a YEAR of searching, of capturing nearly every single little fire doggo I’ve seen, of tapping on and inspecting every single one, it HAPPENED. I should be writing about some other crap right now but none of that matters any more because it finally happened! In fact, it happened at 11:07 in the morning on the 20th of November 2019, just before I stopped off at a bakery to get some breakfast. You see, I was in a bad mood. I’d wasted 15 great throws and 15 golden razzberries on… [Continue Reading]

The Mediocre Suicune Raid Event

Suicune is a weird Pokemon. It’s worthwhile in the handheld Pokemon games but in Pokemon Go, Suicune is just a mediocre Pokemon and I’ve never been sure why. I think it’s because it’s a pure water type that doesn’t do very much damage at all and is tanky but can’t be used in gyms. In fact, a lot of people didn’t really want to come out to do the Suicune Raid event, and I spent most of the event doing it with tourists. Or sitting at home because I don’t have the money, time, effort or golden razzberries to catch… [Continue Reading]
