Streaming movies on Steam

Well it turns out Steam wants to be the new Netflix. I wouldn’t have known, looking at my Steam Store page, but other countries appear to have a banner saying that a bunch of movies by Lionsgate are available for streaming. I wouldn’t have actually known about this had General_B not told me about it, but there’s literally no trace of this existing at all. Also Cyprus is a country, dammit. This isn’t the first time Steam has tried stuff like this. We’ve had movies on Steam before, the Meet the Team videos are all available for download, as is… [Continue Reading]

My Favorite Nude Mods on Steam

(Heads up, lots of butts in these screenshots. There’s only so NSFW I’m comfortable going in an article). As you may have guessed from some of my older articles (and the code phrase from AWOL&H 2), I’m something of a fan of nude mods. Video games are an escapist pasttime after all, and I’m a total exhibitionist. My side job as a nude model for the local university can only do so much. I’m also an English major, and that means I’m woefully computer illiterate. I don’t want to admit how long it took for me to install a laughably-simple nude mod… [Continue Reading]

How to be “invisible” on Steam

I know Steam likes to market itself as a social media network, and we’ve all got online friends who we like to chat to, but there are plenty of times that I really wish Steam had an invisible setting. Steam does not have a traditional “hidden” option, where you can still receive chats but nobody knows if you’re at the computer. You’re either various time-sensitive flavors of online, in-game, or offline where you’re prevented from chatting with your friends. You can set yourself to “Away”, but if you do start up a game, there’s no way to keep that fact hidden… [Continue Reading]

Team Fortress 2 Competitive Beta Sign-Up

Well, who’d have thought it? There’s actually matchmaking things going on for reals! No more will B4nny (bless him) be the only reliable and constant source of information about Team Fortress 2’s official matchmaking. Nope, yesterday, a Valve employee popped by and announced that there is now an official Steam group, as seen here. It’s almost definitely official, since the admins are three Valve employees, and the group also has a selection of Steam Community moderators. The main admin of the group, someone called Jill, has got nearly 4000 hours on Team Fortress 2, which is a sign of, um,… [Continue Reading]

Steam Caching Hell

Edit: Everything is apparently fixed now. What actually happened is still a confusing mess of caching. Something is very wrong with Steam today. After Steam went down from too much traffic, people started realising that they were no longer logged in as themselves. This was most obvious when clicking on one’s Account Details, you’d see the information of, well, not you, the most revealing of which is payment information, Steam Guard details, your shopping cart, your purchase history and your email address. Don’t panic just yet. What is coursing the issue is said to be a caching problem, according to… [Continue Reading]

Trade Restrictions

I recently got a new debit card. This isn’t an uncommon occurrence, everyone’s debit and credit cards expire every two to three years, so they need to be replaced. Like Paypal, I’ll have to re-verify my card. Having online banking makes sorting out Paypal easy (although you couldn’t tell, considering some of my clients!) and that’s sorted out nice and fast. Steam is a bit slower. Since it doesn’t have a card verification system like Paypal, you have to wait a couple of days to be able to trade. I can somewhat understand this, it’s a new payment method, something… [Continue Reading]
