The Nicest Community Day Ever

A Hydreigon with Brutal Swing

When it comes to Community Days, lately, most of them have been meh at best. However, in a bid to make lots of money and get people outside, June’s Community Day was Deino, the dark and dragon type Pokemon. A pseudo-legendary Pokemon with a lot of bite and a great special move. Turns out, if you have an interesting Pokemon for community day, then people turn up. Actually felt like a Community Day A good Pokemon and people out to catch it. Deino’s day ticked a lot of boxes. We got a cool, rare shiny on a cool, rare Pokemon,… [Continue Reading]

A Brief Interlude Where Medic Talks About Pokemon Shield So Far

Mega Gro- hang on no, this is a Dynamax...

I must admit, I’ve been getting carried away with all this Pokemon stuff. It’s all such a genuinely new experience for me. But today, I am taking a break from playing, so I can discuss my thoughts so far. Granted, I’ve only beaten a quarter of the gyms, and am still running around like an idiot, but I’ve been making process and slowly getting the hang of how Pokemon works. It’s alright. Funnily enough, turns out I don’t have much to say about the game. I like wandering around and catching Pokemon, and I like the Pokemon battles. The Pokemon… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 6

Nessa challenges me

Last time round, I managed to get the Grass badge. And this time, I’m very quickly gunning towards the Water badge. Before I do that though, I decide to level myself up a little bit. Milo’s Pokemon were a higher level than mine, and I’m pretty sure whatsherface’s Pokemon will be level 20 or higher. I also decide to go shopping before making my way to water town. It’s always good to have plenty of potions and pokeballs. However, as I head down to the next down on my freshly ‘borrowed’ bike, I run into Hop again. And he wants… [Continue Reading]

Rest Well, Ringo

Today, a bright and sunny Thursday, 23th July, our poor cat Ringo was put to sleep. You may remember Ringo from an article a long time ago, talking about his life. We also had a April Fools blog post where Ringo took over the website for a bit. Ringo is one of the two cats I’ve ever owned and, once he became a family member, he was accepted and grew up to have a happy life. Unfortunately, his life was recently cut short, due to cancer. He was ill, he was tired and he was refusing to eat. Ringo knew… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 5

Mega Gro- hang on no, this is a Dynamax...

We start off Part 5 of this dumb adventure by grinding some more. I am due to face Milo, the Grass-type leader, but I have only one fire type. Yes, it’s a Growlithe, one of my favourites, but he’s lacking in levels. So after a quick grind to get Gruffle the Growlithe to level 15, I head over to the massive Turffield Stadium to challenge the gym leader. Once there, I put on my special challenger cloths and go through the doors to the gym. Before I do anything though, I have a “Grass challenge” I need to do. Basically,… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 4

Evolution!

Who likes cut scenes? I do! Actually, I kinda don’t. Which is a shame because I’m going to be sitting through one. I’m now in Motostoke, and we have to go to the arena for some sort of opening ceremony. Before we can do that though, there’s a list of chores that need doing. We need to book into the hotel and get our special costumes fitted. It seems that every challenger has to wear a costume with a number on it, so of course I chose my lucky number to be 666. The opening ceremony starts the next day,… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 3 – Off-screen Catching

My current team in part 3-4

I’m supposed to be going to Motostoke Stadium to do some more competitive stuff, but frankly, I wasn’t particularly happy with my team. Not having any idea of what is coming up, I decided to do some off-screen catching of Pokemon. I mean, all I had were a handful of Pokemon from the starter area, all of whom needed leveling up. So I felt like I needed to catch and level up some stronger Pokemon. The difference between level 10 and level 15 feels huge. Turns out, those 5 levels make a huge difference. To the point that my poor… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 2

Two kids on their phones.

Hiya and welcome back to the idiot who’s never played a Pokemon game before. Last time round, we saw route 1, went to a pokecenter and picked up a pokedex. This time round, we need to go and visit the Professor, who is at the end of Route 2. While I thought this would be a quick visit, it turned out to be way longer than I expected. A trip to the Professor On our way to the Professor’s house though, we run into our first few actual Pokemon trainers that aren’t Hop. these guys all have 1-2 Pokemon each… [Continue Reading]

Not a Fan of the Drifter

Operator and Drifter

Please note that this article is very spoiler-heavy. If you haven’t played the New War, I recommend going and doing that before reading this article, so you can avoid the biggest spoiler of the quest. It’s also probably worth playing the Angels of the Zariman quest too, since I’ll be mentioning that.

Operator and Drifter. Frankly, if DE can have this as a loading screen, then I can use it in a spoiler-filled article.

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 1

A giant Charizard

Today, I am playing Pokemon Shield. This is my first time, and I’ve got a massive adventure ahead of me. One that I actually don’t know much about. In today’s article, I’ll be going to meet the Champion and hopefully choose my first Pokemon. Here we go! I’ve chosen my character. She’s a small girl with blonde hair. She just needs a name, because I’m not going to use her actual name. So for now her name is Retvik. I know that’s a name I normally use and it doesn’t fit at all, but it doesn’t matter. And it’s better… [Continue Reading]
