Pokemon That Are Hard To Transfer

In Pokemon GO, you have rather limited storage space. A new player generally has enough space for 300 Pokemon and items. But there are a lot of Pokemon to collect. The default space allows for all of Gen 1 and Gen 2 to be collected, but most of the time, the Pokemon you pick up aren’t very good and often quickly get transferred. However, there are plenty of Pokemon which are a bit more valuable, and are much harder to transfer. As you play, you collect more and more Pokemon. While it’s easy to transfer any Pokemon with low stats,… [Continue Reading]

Riolu Hatch Day – Unimpressive

On July 22nd, we had a new event. Called a Hatch Day, the idea is that a Pokemon with an increased shiny chance appears in 2km eggs, and all the eggs you can get are 2km eggs. Riolu Hatch Day was the first of this kind of event, and, well, it wasn’t great. During the middle of a heatwave in Europe and the middle of winter in the southern hemisphere, this was not the best time to be walking outside to hatch eggs. Luckily, I managed to find somewhere cool to walk, and spent most of the event in the… [Continue Reading]

Random Pokemon Showcases

During the 7th Anniversary Event in Pokemon GO, we were introduced to a new feature in Pokemon GO: Showcases. Appearing on random Pokestops, you’d have the opportunity to put your Pokemon in a Showcase, and whichever Pokemon had the best stat – in this case, size – would win their owner some small rewards. These showcases would only appear on specific Pokestops, and you can enter any Pokemon that matches the criteria. In the case of the 7th Anniversary event, it was “biggest Squirtle”. However, these showcases were initially brief, and they disappeared for most of the rest of the… [Continue Reading]

On Powering Up Shadow Pokemon

I think we’ve all heard it, how Shadow Pokemon are stronger than normal Pokemon. We had an event over Shadow Mewtwo, one that was so highly rated that my entire Pokemon GO group decided to meet up and play. In fact, Shadow Mewtwo is probably the most powerful Pokemon in Pokemon GO, not including things like Mega Pokemon and Primal Reversion. If you’re a hardcore player, then you’ve probably got a maxed out team of Shadow Mewtwos, all pimped out with Psystrike, all ready to go. But is that even really feasible? Is that going too far? Probably. The question… [Continue Reading]

The Dark Flames Event Sucked

At the end of June, there was a small event called the Dark Flames event. It featured Pokemon that were fire type or dark type (or both) and introduced a new Pokemon, Turtonator. But this event also had a timed research task, and it was genuinely pretty crappy. But why was this event so bad? Let’s start with the spawns. Of course, we had dark types and fire types. But not that many. Houndour, Vulpix and Poochyena were among the most common, and we also saw Numel and Stunky. Stunky had been around in the previous Team Rocket takeover event,… [Continue Reading]

Squirtle Classic Community Day

Classic Community Days are always fun. They bring back a popular Pokemon that has a special move and then pretend it’s a normal community day. But often, the popular Pokemon has been missing for a long time (or at least, its special move has been missing), so it’s a great opportunity to go out and catch some Pokemon. Squirtle Classic Community Day was basically one of those, with a tiny twist. So the catching of these Squirtles was pretty normal. None of them had party hats on, that had been disabled prior to the event. There were enough spawns and… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon GO and Me

I have a habit about ranting about Pokemon GO. It’s a very simple game that has made a ton of money, but the company behind the game, Niantic, constantly make weird decisions about various game features. As of late, they have been constantly changing the item bundles in the store, and they’ve reduced remote raid usage by limiting remote raids to five per day. Niantic’s relationship with its players and customers is all over the place, and a lot of its Quality of Life changes have been slowly disappearing. Even right now, I could make an argument about how remote… [Continue Reading]

One Day Of An ‘Unintentional Bug’

On June 28th, a change was made in Pokemon GO. Rather than the 40m area to catch Pokemon, the range was increased to about 70m, allowing people to see Pokemon from further away. This immediately meant that you could see way more Pokemon at any one time. And, frankly, it was great. Normally, I can see one, maybe two spawns at home. My position is awkwardly stuck between two gyms, and GPS drift means I can only access one of them at a time. The same goes for Pokemon spawns, there’s one I can always see, and maybe a couple… [Continue Reading]

Niantic and Night

Editor’s note: Several days after writing, Niantic decided to change everything so that night time spawns start at 6pm and end at 6am. However it’s not clear whether this is a permanent change or if it’s just for the Summer Solstice event. And it’s also curious that they had to make this change in the first place. As of writing, there is a Summer Solstice event going on in Pokemon GO. But for some reason, we have both day and night spawns, with specific Pokemon spawning based on the time of day. While the daytime Pokemon are pretty obvious, the… [Continue Reading]

They need to be bigger/smaller…

When I used to play Pixelmon, I spent a lot of time hunting oddly sized Pokemon. The server I played on had special items that randomly changed the size of a specific Pokemon, and you could make your Pokemon either incredibly tiny or incredibly huge. Being someone who had played for quite a while in that server, I accumulated a lot of the size-randoming item, and I used them on quite a few Pokemon. Legendaries would be made huge, while Pokemon I like a lot were made tiny. My favourite Pokemon was a shiny Houndoom that I had made tiny.… [Continue Reading]
