Doki Doki Literature Club review

Notice: If you haven’t played Doki Doki Literature Club, you really should before you read this article.  I openly admit that there are more relevant modern titles I should be reviewing before Doki Doki Literature Club, but sadly I haven’t played very many newly-released games. Most of my favorites are legacy franchises with infinite replayability, like Payday, Overwatch, and Left 4 Dead. But I couldn’t play any of these games when I spent winter break at my parents for the holidays since I had to leave my desktop in Santa Clara. Luckily this gave me a chance to try a… [Continue Reading]

Battlefield 1 – Turning Tides Review

Hi, this is aabicus with the SPUF of Legend! Battlefield 1 came out with the second half of the Turning Tides DLC earlier this month, and I’m loving every single part of it. Now I need to mention a few qualifiers just to be fair: I didn’t try out any of the new guns because they take a lot of time to unlock and I’m playing on a friend’s account (speaking of which, special thanks to Yessirreebirb for letting me use his account again), where was I oh yeah he’s saving up his warbonds for something else so I mostly… [Continue Reading]

A Story About My Uncle

After playing Just Cause 2, I had a bit of a grappling hook addiction. It was ended by Mannpower Mode in TF2, but before that I was still looking for games to scratch that grappling hook itch. I can’t remembered how I first came across this game. I got it as a gift from my IRL friend for Christmas (I think, it’s been some time), and I spent a fair bit of time playing around when I got it. Recently, I saw it again while looking through my Steam library for something to play (I know I know, first world… [Continue Reading]

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review

I actually got to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi on its premiere here where I live. At five in the afternoon on a Thursday though, the theater was half empty and there were almost no kids around. Interesting. Anyway, I saw the movie. I think it was worth €9 for a ticket. There’s no need to see it twice though. I wouldn’t say that Star Wars: The Last Jedi was mind-blowing or anything like that. It was a good action flick with some drama and better dialogue than most other Star Wars films. There’s also a LOT going on… [Continue Reading]

A Justice League Movie Review

So I saw Justice League the other day with my brother and sister. On a Tuesday, where the prices were cheaper. €7 a head. Was the movie worth it? Probably not. Then again, most movies aren’t really worth seeing in the cinema, in my opinion. Still, a review is in order, while it is all fresh in my head. A quick summary before we go into spoiler territory: Justice League was alright but it was too slow, there wasn’t really enough action and too much sappy cheese. Good enough for an average viewer, probably not great for a real DC… [Continue Reading]

Battlefield 1

Happy Armistice Day SPUFers, fast video today, just wanted to quickly inform anyone who hasn’t played a Battlefield game, like myself until recently, that Battlefield 1 is amazing and one of the best multiplayer experiences I’ve had in recent memory. The animations and textures are gorgeous, sound design is immersive, and there are so many little details that other game ignore. There are first-person legs and shadows and reload animations that use the right number of bullets, they put so much effort into the experience around the gameplay and it absolutely pays off. Getting into the actual gameplay, which is… [Continue Reading]

The Amazing Eternals – A Bad Name for a Mediocre Game

The Amazing Eternals, formerly known as Keystone, is a game being developed by Digital Extremes, the people behind Warframe. They’ve recently entered a beta phase, and it turns out I got access to play their beta game. I also managed to snag the name Medic (rather than using Retvik), just in case it turns out that we’re annoying brats playing a game rather than hardcore warriors. The premise of the game is simple. You’re playing a board game, and each title is a battle. The layout and look is a somewhat cheesy 80’s board game/comic style. After each battle, you… [Continue Reading]

IT – Not Very Scary

It’s a bad sign when there are people laughing in a horror movie in a cinema. But that’s what happened when I went and saw IT on the big screen. There were people laughing. And no, it wasn’t because of botched subtitles. Since every movie I see has Greek subtitles – even though the translation of the title alone had people snickering. Seriously, they had translated the movie IT to “Το Αυτό” meaning The It. The bloke sitting a few seats over from me, I genuinely heard him say “Why did they called the movie that?” In Greek of course.… [Continue Reading]

Army Gals Poker DLC Review

Yesterday Army Gals came out with a new DLC where the four main characters play strip poker! Considering I complained about the lack of a dynamic poker game in my review of the base visual novel, I had little choice but to try this new content to see how it fared. My expectations going into the DLC were pretty lenient. I wasn’t expecting Deep Blue levels of expertise from the AI, to be honest I mostly just wanted to see what would happen when you played strip poker without the corresponding off-Steam patch that allowed nudity. Basically, turns out each… [Continue Reading]

The New QOTSA Album – Villains

When it comes to reviewing things, I’m always late to the punch. But with a lot of things, you need some time to listen and let things settle down a bit. Maybe you just need to absorb what you just watched. Maybe you need to watch, read or listen again. That’s definitely the case with the new Queens of the Stone Age album, Villains. The first song I heard was their two singles, The Way You Used To Do and The Evil Has Landed. I didn’t really listen to them too much in detail because I wanted to hear the… [Continue Reading]
