On Playing As The Devil Himself

I’ve been out of the loop when it comes to Team Fortress 2 for a while, so I don’t really know if Engineer is still considered evil and hated and all of that. From what I’ve seen, it’s still Pyro and Sniper who people seem to hate, for various reasons. Engineer though is a bit more complicated, both in how loved and hated he can be and why. But I have a bit of a secret that I’ve been hiding for ages: I’ve… always technically been a bit of an Engineer main. “But wait! You’re MEDIC! Not Engineer!” Yeah, I… [Continue Reading]

Why Warframe Shouldn’t Have an MMO-Style Market

Every time something vaguely related to trading comes up in Warframe, someone always shouts that we need an MMO-style market. Or an auction shop, or whatever you want to call it. The idea being that users just throw up what they want to sell and buyers can just click a button instantly and get their item. After all, an auction house works great in other games, doesn’t it? Surely it’ll work in Warframe and it’ll make trading so much easier! But I don’t think it will. I actually think an auction house will make trading worse. Now, that’s a rather… [Continue Reading]

Team Fortress 2’s Teamwork

In my last article, I said that teamwork in TF2 is easier than in other games, with hero shooters being my example of the alternative. I’m going to explain why I think that. Firstly, there is very little overlap in the class roles. The nine classes by default have very clear, distinct roles with minimal overlap, so you can tell what your team needs at a glance. You need someone to heal? Medic. You need to defend a point? Engineer. You need to destroy a particularly annoying Sentry Nest? Spy. You need to get somewhere faster? Scout. So on, and… [Continue Reading]

Team Fortress 2 Is An Amazing Drop In, Drop Out Game

For ages, Battle Royale games were being touted as the best thing ever, because you could always just drop in and drop out of said games whenever you wanted. What was that? You died literally two seconds after landing from the dropship? That’s fine, you can immediately quit and queue up for a new game. Doesn’t matter whether that other game is still going, you can just join a new game. That constant flow of players in and out of games helped make Battle Royales so easy to pick up and play. It didn’t matter if you died, you can… [Continue Reading]

Returning to TF2

After being told a few times that Team Fortress 2 is one of the best games of the decade despite being released in the previous decade, I decided to hop back in for a bit. I assumed nothing has changed since a) TF2 at its core has not changed much despite all the updates it received, and b) TF2 has not have any major updates since I left 2 years ago. I dropped into the middle of a Snowycoast game as a Soldier. I’ll be honest, I am never that familiar at any maps post-Two Cities Update and Hydro, so… [Continue Reading]

The 2010s in Gaming – A Look Back

Adios, old decade! Tomorrow is the first day of the new ’20s, a decade sure to be just as roaring as the one that used to be known as the ’20s’. I’ve often wondered just how long it takes for the old century to fall out of conversation and get replaced by the new one in abbreviated parlance. Guess we might be finding out somewhere around the 2050s, is my personal guess. But anyway! The ’10s were certainly a hell of a decade, especially for gaming. We were treated to some huge advancements in graphics, hardware, and processing capabilities. The… [Continue Reading]

Merry Smissmas Everyone

It’s that time of year again. It’s Smissmas. “Medic, don’t you mean Christmas?” No, I mean Smissmas. It’s just like Christmas except it’s a silly version taken straight out of Team Fortress 2. Now, I haven’t played Team Fortress 2 properly in a long time. Due to being a Medic main and the average player not really understanding a Medic’s limitations, I kinda drifted away and started playing games where I didn’t need to worry about others keeping my character safe. The lack of decent Team Fortress 2 updates with anything actually in them put me off entirely, especially since… [Continue Reading]

“TF2 is on Hold”… So?

According to the Valve News Network, a Youtube channel that is known for digging deep into cut content and discussing and speculating about all things Valve, they got in touch with a couple of people at Valve and apparently Team Fortress 2 is on hold for the time being. There’s essentially no one working on Team Fortress 2 and there are no new TF2 updates in the future because it’s all hands on deck for the new Half-Life VR game. We won’t know whether Valve will ever do anything with Team Fortress 2 for a long time. My response to… [Continue Reading]

Parodies VS Tropes – The Strange Differences in Team Fortress 2 and Overwatch Characters

Call me biased, but I’ve always believed that the characters in Team Fortress 2 are better than the characters in Overwatch. I’m not talking about skills or abilities or guns or playstyles or anything like that. A lot of those things are far more subjective and depend highly on the game you want to play. But when it comes to the characters and personalities of these games, there is a vast gap between what makes the TF2 classes who they are and what Overwatch’s heroes have become. To do this though, we have to understand the difference between a parody… [Continue Reading]

The Scaling Level of Pointlessness When It Comes to Cosmetics

It’s funny how some things come to you. I’ve got a good 1500+ hours playing Team Fortress 2, and it took me a good part of them to realise that cosmetics are actually almost completely pointless since you never actually see them. They are only ever seen by other people, unless you use that weird console command that shows your body. But even then, your head isn’t visible and you don’t even get to always see unusual effects. Aside from one obscure console command though, you’re dressing yourself up so you can look at yourself in menus. Any cosmetics you… [Continue Reading]
