Press ‘2’ to Give Energy

Despite all of my talk about Warframe, there’s something I’ve been almost hesitant to mention. I’ve always been someone who veers towards healers and support characters, but here I am, playing Warframe and keeping far, far away from the main support character in the game. As Warframes go, Trinity isn’t that hard to get. You need to complete quite a few junctions – Venus, Mercury, Mars and Phobos, before you can access Ceres and reach the boss battle there. For some reason, the boss fight is against Captain Vor and Lieutenant Kril, two bosses you’ve already fought on Mercury and… [Continue Reading]

My Growing Obsession with V̶o̶l̶t̶ Frost

In pretty much every Warframe article I’ve published, I’ve written them from the point of view of Volt, my starter character and still my favourite. I’ve mentioned my other unlocked characters a few times, most notably Trinity, the healer class I dislike. While Volt and Volt Prime make up for about 60% of my Warframe gameplay, I really should mention the other 30%. Turns out, half of that 30% belongs to Frost. Frost was the second Warframe I acquired and leveled up, and I did so very, very quickly. So fast in fact, that I don’t actually remember leveling Frost… [Continue Reading]

Being Looked Up To – Leaving the Realms of the Newbie

Everyone starts out as a newbie in a game. You’re flailing around, not quite sure what to do. Very few people manage to get right into a game straight away, and even fewer are genuinely not bad when they start a new game. As you progress through your chosen game, you slowly get better, you climb the ranks, you leave the realm of the newbie and become a more experienced player. For most, leaving the realms of the newbie is a subtle one. You don’t really see it happening. As I played Borderlands 2 for example, I never noticed that… [Continue Reading]

Not The War Within

As people can tell from my recent posts on SPUF and via text chats, I’m in a bad mood. I’ve been ill all week, and, in a hope of cheering myself up, I thought I’d spend Friday patiently waiting for the War Within to come out and dive straight into a new quest line, while making a SPUF of Legend video of my gameplay. Well, none of that worked. Most of it really is my fault. I stayed up until 1am on Saturday. The update hit not long after I fell asleep. I got up at nine in the morning… [Continue Reading]

My Continued Obsession with Volt

I’m still obsessed with this one character. It’s no longer a growing obsession. Volt, one of three starter characters in the game Warframe. The ‘mage-like’ character who provides a more caster-based play style than Excalibur or Mag. The electric one. The derpy looking thing with weird crotch armour and weird, square knees. I’ve been using this guy from the start, and he makes up a good 40% of my play time, the other 60% being split between Volt Prime and my slowly growing collection of other frames – Frost, Ember, Trinity and Valkyr. Frost has some obvious uses, but the… [Continue Reading]

Continuity – A Mod Journey

One of Warframe’s standard, almost required, mods is Continuity. Continuity increases the duration of your abilities – most of them anyway. It’s not required on everyone, but it’s a damn useful mod to have. There are alternate mods that also increase duration, but Continuity is the only mod that only increases duration, or not at the cost of anything else. It turns out, it’s also a really fucking hard mod to get. Annoyingly though, I’ve had a Continuity from the very beginning. When I was doing the tutorial missions, one of the very first mods I received was a damaged… [Continue Reading]

Perpetually Puzzling Puzzles in Fast-Paced Platform Shooters

I love the majority of Warframe’s gameplay, the bouncing around, the bullet jumping, the gliding through the air, the shooting stuff, it’s all awesome. Warframe is totally up there when it comes to fast-paced shooter games. But there’s something that can stop you dead in your tracks. No, I’m not talking about things like absurd component costs and times to build. Yes, 3 days to build a new frame is stupid, but in the mean time, you can still play. Maybe put a lens on one of your other characters and work on your focus. I am also not talking… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s First Raid – the Law of Retribution

So I did a raid, called the Law of Retribution. Which, lore-wise, comes after a bastard called Vay Hek broke some of our relays. Now we have to get revenge. Of course, I didn’t get any screenshots, I was too busy trying not to die. Really, the title should read ‘Retvik’s first raid’ but none of you know who Retvik is. Retvik is the name of me in Warframe, based on one of my main characters in the Phoviverse. Really, I hate the name, it doesn’t suit my imagined Warfame character. The Operator behind Volt (or at least how I… [Continue Reading]

Six Degrees of Movement and Motion Sickness

Archwing is a game mode in Warframe in which you have six degrees of movement rather than the standard four. By that, I mean there is no floor to stand on and you have to float and fight through space on your space wings, with your gigantic sword and your space gun. Sounds pretty awesome, right? Well, not quite… I normally actually avoid Archwing missions, because I get dizzy easily. I was only re-reminded of their existence after a conversation with SilverWolf, and accidentally doing an Exterminate alert that turned out to be an Archwing mission. Plus, I was going… [Continue Reading]

My Little Specter

My little Specter, made out of glitter. Cost a ton of credits, they’re all dimwits. So silly and derpy, their AI is wonky. No real uses, unless they’re Ancient bitches. My little Specter, why did I bother? I’ve had the crafting recipes for all three kinds of Warframe specter, plus Ancient Healer specters, plus Moas and all sorts for ages. I’d never used any of them because I wasn’t really sure what they did. But really, I was more scared that, once I made a bunch of them, I’d lose the blueprints – after all, you lose the blueprints when… [Continue Reading]
