Why I love the Pyro

Pyro is the class that I really should hate. Its combat potential is limited, it is by design the most annoying class in the game, and its flames straight-up halve my framerate. It’s almost universally despised by those at the upper tiers of competitive 6v6, my favourite TF2 gamemode. It’s a hodgepodge of ‘broken’ mechanics. And yet I’m saying it, right now: I love the Pyro class. Pyro has such a variety of useful unlocks that change your playstyle, whether you’re running degreaser/flare gun and critting everything that moves, degreaser/shotgun and having a useful close-mid range damage presence, or even… [Continue Reading]

Why I like the Heavy

Now people might see me as crazy because liking Heavy is kinda hipster and cool in a way. Here are some reasons why I like the Heavy: 1. One of the best cap point defenders Now some facts about the Heavy: He is tanky. Big time. With his normal healthpool of 300 and a whopping 450 hp when overhealed, Heavy becomes very good at absorbing damage. He has loads of hitscan bullets that hurt especially if too close to the barrel of death of the Minigun. With the potential 500 DPS Heavy is one of if not the best damage… [Continue Reading]

Flame the Love

Our control over fire is what separates us from the animals. Well, that and our thumbs, the ability to stand upright, our giant brains and our adaptability. And all that stuff. Fire is also what separates enemies. Set them on fire and watch them panic and run around like headless chickens. It’s a dangerous, unknown, primordial power, only used to its full potential by the most demonic of beings. So yes, Pyro. Everyone’s favourite, genderless monster. And he really is a monster. You’ve seen Meet the Pyro, right? Ignore all the frilly dancing around Pyrovison bits, that’s the sign of… [Continue Reading]

The Inconvenience of Handsome French Men

In the spirit of Valentine’s, I’m gonna do the opposite and talk about something I hate! Not really hate, I guess, but strongly dislike. Spies can be annoying, but they aren’t that difficult to deal with really. They’re more of an inconvenience to distract your team. “Spah creepin’ around here?” Well just go Pyro for a few minutes and go wild. If they’re using the Dead Ringer + Spycicle, try to just airblast them into a corner as soon as they use their Dead Ringer and pull our their Spycicle, and boom, Spy-Be-Gone! Occasionally you’ll come across that one super-duper Battle… [Continue Reading]

Why I love Sniper

Sniper is an awesome class to play. Even though he often gets derided on SPUF, he’s a really fun class to play. 1. He’s unique in terms of playstyle I see why this can be controversial, but he’s different from the others, where he’s likely to be a loner rather than try to get in everyone’s face. He knows the concept of personal space and prefers to work his magic from afar. He’s the only class to me where accuracy often depends on what rifle I’m using. His headshot mechanic used to be his bread and butter until the Spy stole… [Continue Reading]

The Sword is lovelier than the Sandvich

So a German told people to write articles about what classes they love and hate in honor of valentine’s day. I think many SPUF regulars should already know what my favorite “class” is, and the strangest part is it’s not even its own class. The Demoknight is my current favorite class in TF2, or at least was before it was over nerfed into oblivion. Anyway Demoknight is more than strapping on any old shield, and to be honest I don’t even consider the Charge ‘n’ Targe actual Demoknight, mainly because while the Tide Turner encouraged getting in for awesome sword… [Continue Reading]

Why Scout is Awful and Underpowered

I don’t dislike any of the classes in TF2. You’d think Engineer, but honestly as a Demoman/Medic main, it’s my job to destroy their nests, and without them I’d have significantly less to do at any given moment. Sniper likewise I’ve never really cared about because I can always seem to find routes that let me avoid them. Not to mention that my favorite weapon, the Sticky Jumper, turns them into my favorite prey. So this article is kinda tough for me to write, because I don’t really hate anyone in TFC either. Pyro, maybe, but he’s too pitiful to… [Continue Reading]

Why Battle Medic is my favorite class

Today Medic announced a fun initiative for anyone who’d like to write two themed articles; one on which class is their favorite and one on their least favorite. And I would be remiss not to bring up the class I find more fun to play than all nine from TF2. The Combat Medic from TFC has an unparalleled mix of mobility, firepower, and health regeneration that makes him truly unlike any other class from either game. As this old article goes into detail on, his primary job is to send himself flying through the air with conc grenades deep into… [Continue Reading]

Why I hate Engineers

Ok, this might come off as me being an salty Scout main, but I really hate Engineer as class.  And here’s why: 1. So easy to stack As I watch into the last point of Granary where there are 5 sentries just on the left of me, I start pondering “is this really balanced” and then proceed to back up so I don’t have to encounter this amount of stacking. Now I have no problem with Engineer countering me (in fact I like it when classes can be countered by another class and also itself especially if the countering body… [Continue Reading]

How I came to hate myself…

I wasn’t born a Medic main. It took months of me being useless to finally pick up that Medi Gun. But once I did, I was hooked. It was like a drug. Every site I registered on, I called myself a variant of Medic. The best one was the Steam User Forums. I became The Medic, that whiny, somewhat likable moron you all know and love today. But I tell you what, I fucking hate myself. I’m going to be blunt. Being called Medic is probably one of the biggest mistakes I could have made. You have no idea how… [Continue Reading]
