Why I Love Demo

It’s February, the month of Valentine’s Day, so I’m gonna ramble on about the class that I love the most: The Demoman. I freakin’ love the Demo. So much. With a fiery, burning passion, that consumes my soul. I don’t play Demo because he puts out a massive amount of damage if used right, I play Demo because it’s a fun and unique experience. The high damage output is more of a product from effectively playing Demo. Not counting his melees, Demo is all projectile and no hitscan, so for the most part, you have to develop timing and tracking to play… [Continue Reading]

Why Heavy is my favorite class

When it comes to favorite classes, most people usually say someone like Soldier, or Demoman, or Scout. Nearly every single class has someone who thinks it’s their favorite: People love Medic, Spy, Pyro, and even Engineer and Sniper. But nobody seems to love the Heavy. That is, except from me. I LOVE the Heavy. When it comes to classes in this game, I usually have phases where I play some classes for a long time, but then later don’t play them all that often until I get back to them eventually. But not Heavy: I could always pick him every… [Continue Reading]

Why I hate fighting against Scouts

Usually, when people talk about a class that is their least favorite or that they hate, it’s commonly one of their top 3 least played classes. While that holds true for Sniper, who is my 3rd least played class, The others in my bottom 3 are Engineer and Medic, who I actually don’t dislike that much: Engineer because for the longest time the servers I went on didn’t allow him to be played, and Medic because his effectiveness is solely dependent on your teammates’ competence. So, it may be a bit of a surprise that my second least favorite class… [Continue Reading]

Medic weapons are all strangely overpowered…

When someone says ‘ balanced weapons’, people always have the habit of turning to us Medics and our rather small inventory. Four Medi Guns, four syringe-shooting weapons and five limb-destroying melee weapons. People say to us that our weapons are all fine and dandy, the only bad syringe gun is the Blutsauger, since it promotes Battle-Medicing, and the Bonesaw, which is useless. But hang on a second. The most useless Medic weapon is the stock melee one? I thought we were supposed to be balanced? This thought made me look deeper into Medic weaponry. And deeper, and deeper. I quickly… [Continue Reading]

CTF, a fun gamemode or the paradise of engineers, snipers and scouts

Okay, now I am gonna talk about CTF. CTF AKA Capture-the-flag is one of the most frequently criticized gamemodes in this game. But I try to argue that it actually is quite fun. Some arguments I hear about CTF not being fun: 1. It is either an steamroll or a camp-fest: Well that is a point I can’t really argue against, as it really depends whether the enemy team fortified their intel room with sentries or not. But for the steamroll argument I just have to say no. I do not understand why people say that steamroll-ability is bad. Yeah, I… [Continue Reading]

An easy way for Valve to crank out new maps

Repurpose old ones! Sounds obvious, but this has been a mainstay of Team Fortress from the beginning. I’ve already mentioned that 3 popular (and one rarely-played) TF2 maps were originally maps in Team Fortress Classic, ported over due to their popularity. TF2 itself is quite fond of self-plagiarism, with there being no less than three versions of Gorge (four if you count Itemtest), Badlands, and many many maps with two different versions. These reskins come for a number of reasons. Sometimes Valve wants to showcase a new game mode and so they release some brand new maps along with a… [Continue Reading]

Cosmetic Items, and why I love them

If there is anything Team Fortress 2 is known for, aside from it’s wacky cartoony graphics and colorful cast of characters, it’s Hats. The amount of cosmetic items in this game is somewhat ridiculous: It’s easily in the hundreds, maybe soon approaching thousands, which is why hats are a common subject of jokes when it comes to TF2. And a lot of people have gotten sick of hats as of late: It seems every even slightly major update includes dozens of hats, but only like 3 new weapons and maybe 1 or 2 new maps. Where do I stand in… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s first ever official non-sub 4v4 match

Actually, technically it’s my second, but the other team forfeited in the first week. So Friday the 6th of February was the date. My first ever match. Part of me was nervous. Everyone said I’d be fine. I was fine. Perfectly fine. The map was koth_stallone. It’s a map set outside a hotel complex near a beach, where the mercenaries fight over a cafe area. Both teams start in the kitchens and work their way out to the sheltered, roofed control point. There are tables and chairs and umbrellas all over the place. And a swimming pool! Unfortunately, reflective textures… [Continue Reading]

Syringes

You remember all those times where I would whine and bitch and moan that I have really awful aim? Remember how I said that I am legitimately bad at TF2 and video games in general? Would you forgive me if I said I may have been lying slightly? Of course you would, you love me. There ARE things I am good at in TF2, but the issue I have is that most of the things I am good at aren’t particularly useful in normal gameplay. The main thing? Syringe gun aim. In the last few weeks, I have had some AMAZING… [Continue Reading]
