Terror in the Locker Room

The Crewman could hear lockers opening. He had finished his shift and was going to head down to the canteen for lunch. He needed to drop off his weapon and change out of his suit. Someone else was in there though, clanging and banging around. Rather than just barge in, the Crewman decided to sneak in and see what was going on. As he peered around the corner, the Crewman felt a tingle in the air. Like miniature electric shocks. There was a Warframe in the locker room. A brightly coloured one. A weird cape around its backside, rings around… [Continue Reading]

Looking for an open-world sci-fi strategy game? Satellite Reign is a co-op isometric shooter where you and up to three friends can sneak, shoot, steal and sabotage your way through a massive cyberpunk city. Warframe without Warframes

Warframes are ugly. Corpus and Grineer are ugly. Most of the human beings in Warframe are ugly as fuck. Even the cats and dogs can be absolutely hideous if you get unlucky. When you think about it, most living things in Warframe are really horrible, the result of hundreds, if not thousands of years of everything going to hell in a hand basket. You have endless wars between the Grineer and Corpus, you have the Infested biting at everyone’s heels and the few normal outposts filled with normal human beings generally have something terrorizing them every night. No wonder they’re… [Continue Reading]

Tips for Kuva Survival

Kuva Survival is the cool new thing, or at least it will be for a while until the new Sanctuary Assault game mode comes out in an upcoming update. It’s a nice blend between the normal sameness of normal Survival with a hint of Extraction thrown in, with the plus side that you don’t need to grab a billion power cores, you just need one to start extracting Kuva. Here are some tips for going into Kuva Survival, one of the highest outside of the Void and Sortie missions. Bring enemies to you Ideally, you want all the enemies to… [Continue Reading]

How to Become a Voice Actor

I had the exciting opportunity last week to give a lecture to a class of my fellow college students, and it was only afterwards that I realized my voice-acting hobby was largely responsible for how easy this presentation was! Full disclosure: I’m not a professional voice-actor, and I don’t have the qualifications to teach you how to get paid to voice-act. This article is mostly describing the many fun reasons a voice-acting hobby can broaden your horizons and genuinely improve your life. I’ve been voice-acting for a few years, ever since deciding that the Daily SPUF needed to expand into videos.… [Continue Reading]

I went to GDC 2018!

The Game Developer’s convention is a yearly expo where professionals in the games industry all meet up to swap stories, listen to lectures focused on the developer’s perspective, and give each other business cards in the hopes of forming connections and (for some of us) getting hired. This year I was lucky enough to attend! Due to my new position as lead marketer for Major League Magic, I prioritizing attending marketing lectures, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I never had trouble attending any lecture I wanted. Most of my fellow students reported their favorite lectures… [Continue Reading]

Dresden Cookies

Dresden Files rang a bell when a buddy of mine recommended it last month, but when he said “It’s like a detective series, but he’s also a wizard”, I was immediately curious. (Plus the fact that, weirdly, he thought of it cuz I’d been telling him about the classic cyberpunk novel Snow Crash.) Harry Dresden is a well-conceived character. He’s got that Sam Spade swagger, a bit of Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman banter, and takes his work seriously enough that you’re invested in that journey for something more than wanting to know how the magical locked-room-mystery ends. One of my favorite traits of… [Continue Reading]

On Sound Cues

Playing Left 4 Dead 2 recently made me realize something. The sounds and music in that game and its predecessor Left 4 Dead 1 are absolutely amazing. Really, the more I think about it, the more I feel the sound direction is what ties the game together and gives both the game and the player direction without being in your face. You see, in Left 4 Dead, there’s not a huge amount of actual music. All the music comes from the many sound cues from your environments as you walk by. You know when there’s a tank coming, not just… [Continue Reading]

Becoming Obsessed with Frost Again

So a while back, Frost Prime was released as a Warframe bonus for Twitch Prime. He’d been re-vaulted a while back, and alongside the Soma Prime and Scindo Prime, was always a well-rounded frame, so as a free Warframe, Frost Prime was perfect for the huge amount of new players looking to try something other than Excalibur, Volt and Mag. Of course, because you could get these items with the Twitch Prime trial and a valid credit/debit card, it meant that almost everyone had Frost Prime. Unfortunately, this meant that everyone was using Frost Prime, and there simply wasn’t enough… [Continue Reading]

Medical Necessity – A Final Update

Hi everybody! A few weeks ago our most recent dev diary went live for Medical Necessity, and unfortunately, it will also be our last. As our final project for the quarter, every team needed to showcase their progress during pre-production and demonstrate that they have a schedule for finishing production in the next three months. Unfortunately, the judges decided that the game we were working on wasn’t in a state worth continuing. They mentioned that the game’s core concept seemed ‘self-contradictory’, in that the player didn’t have enough control over the gameplay and that led to the game not being fun.… [Continue Reading]
