Beating the First Game with the Worst Pokémon – Part 3

Once again, we rejoin our heroes in Vermillion City after having beaten Lt. Surge. Magikarp and his flunkies will soon be heading for Route 11 to Diglett Cave, but we need to do some housekeeping before setting out. At the Pokemon Fan Club we listened to the chairman’s tale and received a Bike Voucher, then stopped by the Fishing Guru to collect an Old Rod. This is the only fishing pole we’re going to grab this run, since it spawns only toothless Magikarp and I wanted a reliable method for burning away my Splash PP in case I ever needed… [Continue Reading]

Beating the First Game with the Worst Pokémon – Part 2

My journey with Magikarp began as most Pokemon adventures do; beating the pants off my rival. See, the best part of this run was always going to be the early game; since Magikarp’s only damage-dealing move, Dragon Rage, deals a fixed 40 damage, and nothing is going to have that much health for at least the first third of the game, I could sucker-punch anything I liked. Or at least I thought… The tutorial content went easily enough: visiting Viridian City, returning a parcel to Professor Oak, and reaching Viridian Forest. And while the poor Caterpie, Kakuna, and Metapod were… [Continue Reading]

Beating the First Game with the Worst Pokémon – Part 1

Author’s note: Today’s article sets the stage for my University Magikarp run through Pokémon Red. The rest of this year’s articles will chronicle the run itself! The Magikarp-Only Run is a staple of high-level Pokémon challenges, along with Nuzlockes, speedruns and randomizers. As Magikarp is infamously terrible and widely considered the worst Pokémon of all time, you’re always going to find people who want to solo a Pokémon game with it (along with a team of non-combat HM slaves). And indeed, you can find successful Magikarp runs throughout the internet for every generation of Pokémon. Except one. Pokémon Red/Blue has,… [Continue Reading]

A Vaguely Festive Article

A Vaguely festive picture of Harrow and a Kubrow

Ugh. Normally I’m someone who loves the festive break. It’s always so much fun. The family gets together. We have presents. Tons of food is made and then eaten. It’s the festive season, that one chance to actually unwind for a bit and, hopefully, have plenty of time off work. No work, combined with gifts and good food, a pretty good combination for most people. Even if you’re not religious, there’s at least something to enjoy. Well, aside from Christmas music on loop in stores. I’m all for Christmas spirit, but I want to murder people after the first time… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays SCP: (Not So) Secret Laboratory

SCP Secret Lab

I have always loved the whole concept behind the SCP Foundation. The idea of this mysterious Men in Black-like agency, protecting Earth from all sorts of strange things, while hiding dark secrets from the rest of the planet. The Men in Black were always tied to aliens and space. On the other hand, the SCP Foundation covers pretty much anything, from the paranormal to aliens to C’thulu-types to just strange, extraordinary items. More importantly though, the SCP is mostly made up of community writing. It’s basically an open source government agency. One where pretty much anything and everything can happen.… [Continue Reading]

My 5 Favorite Male Nude Mods

Warning: Lotsa butts in these screenshots. Also assume that every hyperlink leads to a NSFW site.  Despite nude mods being far-and-away the most prevalent type of available mods in the gaming sphere, halfway-decent male nudes are way more difficult to find than you’d expect. There are a couple different reasons, the first being there are far fewer people wanting or making them, but even more important is the added complications of sculpting the male form. A female nude mod is sometimes as simple as editing some underwear off a pre-existing texture square, but a male mod requires modeling, rigging, positioning… [Continue Reading]

The Power of Drifting GPS

Arceus the Pokemon God

You’d think, what with the events of 2020, that this year would be bad for Pokemon Go. In fact, it’s been quite the opposite. This year has been better than all previous years when it comes to making money. Pretty early on, Niantic added a bunch of benefits to allow most players to play at home. Free daily items, Team Rocket balloons, buffed incense, your daily spawn, all changes to make the game playable in a locked down environment. One of the more major changes was the removal of the walking requirement to access the Go Battle League, which means… [Continue Reading]

A Dialga Called Carie

Carie the Dialga with Jessie from Team Rocket

I’ve actually used the name ‘Carie’ a lot in the past. Anything that does any particular heavy lifting gets the name. I had multiple Flygons in Pixelmon called Carie. Why? Because they were the first flying Pokemon I came across. Those Flygons carried me around until I could secure better Pokemon, both in travel and the occasional boss fight. The first Machamp I had in Pokemon Go was called Carie as well, as it was my only fighting type for a little too long. That Machamp was deleted eventually, due to having awful 0-star stats and eating too many TMs… [Continue Reading]

Operation Orphix Venom is Here

A still from the Orphix Venom cut scene

We haven’t had an Operation in Warframe for a while. The last one was Scarlet Spear, which was supposed to be the start of the New War. However current events on planet earth ended up delaying the New War completely. After all, the Sentients didn’t want to get infected. But now the Sentients are back in an event that completely removes the Warframe from Warframe. Operation Orphix Venom is a weird event. Basically, this is the Condrix ground mission on Earth, from Scarlet Spear. Except there’s a massive field around each Orphix that literally kicks you out of your Warframe… [Continue Reading]

Distracted by Something Shiny – A Free Shiny Celebi

Shiny Celebi in a jungle. I'm going to assume that it appears in the new Pokemon movie too.

The other day, I mentioned how shiny Mew would be locked behind a €12 ticket for a Pokemon GO event. Shiny Mew is insanely rare and nigh impossible to get a hold of legitimately. So selling it seems kinda weird. At the very same time though, a tie-in with the latest Pokemon Movie has been released, and comes with another shiny. Shiny Celebi, another mythical Pokemon, is the reward for a Special Research called Distracted by Something Shiny. A special research with Jessie and James! I was actually kinda surprised to get a vaguely animated cut scene sort of thing… [Continue Reading]
