The Daily SPUF is back!

Hi everyone and welcome back to the Daily SPUF! After a bumpy week or so, the Daily SPUF is working again! Mostly. I still haven’t worked out how to get featured images working again, but they’re not really needed. Pretty much every picture was saved apart from those uploaded in the last week before blog.spuf.info died, and I’ve managed to save a few of those too. But let’s not worry about a few pictures, let’s bask in the glory of this new theme, and the new shiny stuff and the actual logo and things like that! As you can probably… [Continue Reading]

On Learning How to be a Sniper of Sorts

I’ve never really been someone who picks the Sniper class in any sort of game. My aim isn’t absolutely horrible because I have been practicing and have finally got my mouse working at speeds I like. But I’m still not really Sniper material. The fast-paced, middle of battle headshottery isn’t part of my skill set yet. I should clarify though. I am not ready to play as a Team Fortress 2 Sniper. TF2’s Sniper is a weirdly weak class when it comes to sniping classes in general, with the inability to score headshots unless scoped in and after a brief… [Continue Reading]

What’s so damn special about Overwatch’s matchmaking?

I see this all the time. “TF2’s matchmaking sucks! I’m going to play Overwatch because it has better matchmaking!” Anyone who says this isn’t thinking straight. There are legitimate reasons why you might want to play Overwatch, or even play it over Team Fortress 2, but if you’re going because TF2’s casual and competitive matchmaking sucks, then you’re not thinking things through. Here’s a conversation I had with my sister, who is an avid Overwatch fan. “I hate this map.” “Why?” “Too many choke points.” “Can’t you choose what map you want to play?” “Uh, no.” In Overwatch, you can’t… [Continue Reading]

My Favorite Payday 2 Glitches

Payday 2 is built on an outdated engine and has received years upon years of updates, new content, and balance tweaks. Completely divergent mechanics like flamethrowers, explosives, grenades, vehicles, and weapon skins have found their way into the original relatively-simple gameplay, not to mention an ambitious skill system with infinite combinations of dozens of abilities. This is a prime environment for some completely insane glitches! 5. When the Arkansas Toothpick granted 230 Concealment. I think Overkill meant to buff it from 27 to 30, but forgot to finish deleting the old value. Maximum armor, RPG, and Flamethrower? No problem, guards will never see… [Continue Reading]

Are constant updates for the best in Minecraft?

Minecraft as a has been around for quite a long time, with me alone having been playing it since December 2010, the same time when I joined SPUF. It’s a slow burner of a game, both in the way you play and how the game gets semi-frequent updates. Each update might not try to be bigger than the last, but they always try to add more stuff. You don’t often see things getting nerfed though, it’s mostly bug fixes and new features. The updates do add more to an otherwise very sparse and often repetitive-looking world. The very early InDev… [Continue Reading]

On Garry’s Mod

I actually haven’t really talked much about Garry’s Mod before. I wrote a brief article on the perils of posing in Garry’s Mod, but otherwise it’s a mostly unspoken subject. Which is weird since a lot of the Daily SPUF’s images are made by me in said game. Really, I could have moved on to Source Film Maker ages ago. I originally couldn’t because it ran so slowly on my old laptop, and my current laptop isn’t actually much better. The problem with SFM is that the program is a beefy one, which needs to run both a version of… [Continue Reading]

Ways to have fun in Left 4 Dead 2 Pubs

I love Left 4 Dead 2, its one of my top three favorite games of all time. But while I vastly prefer Campaign due to encouraging cooperation and avoiding the more toxic saltiness of the Versus community, a normal pub is just too easy for me. I know I sound a bit arrogant saying it, but I’ve soloed the game without bots, there isn’t much I’m going to fear in a Normal-difficulty campaign with three allies of varying competency. So that’s why I’ve developed a couple “mini-games” that spice things up a bit. I don’t want to do anything that negatively… [Continue Reading]

Back to the very beginning of me…

I never thought I’d be the sort of person to play video games regularly, let alone be running and writing a blog about them. I never thought I’d be making websites for a living. I never thought a lot of things. One of the things that I HAVE recently been thinking about though is how I got here. Yeah, yeah, you’ve all heard it, I started off as a no one with a gimmicky name and ended up being one of the faces of SPUF with a gimmicky name. But it goes back further than that. SPUF was the fourth… [Continue Reading]

I miss Mystery Heroes. – [Overwatch]

So I  was going to write an article on how annoyed I was with the system Blizzard currently has for unlocking the new Summer cosmetics, since they can only obtained in summer loot boxes, which only have 1-2 summer cosmetic slots and 90% of the summer unlocks are worthless voice lines and sprays. There’s absolutely no way to increase your odds of landing something you actually care about, and here I’ve got 1600 credits just wasting space on my account because I’ve already bought everything I could possibly want except the awesome new Widowmaker summer skin. I understand why they did… [Continue Reading]

A Random Thought on Lag

There are three things that drive the players of TF2 to near insanity and hopelessness. They are the butchered horse of weapons balance, the butchered and burned horse of random crits, and finally the unanimously accepted lag. Since everyone seems to have contributed something to the discussion of random crits and weapon balance it seems pointless to provide another rage consumed analysis of crits or another saddening analysis of weapon balance that shows (once again) that valve does not play their own game. Instead I will ramble on about another less common subject that only appears in discussions between performance… [Continue Reading]
