Happy Birthday, Team Fortress 2

On October 10th 2007, Team Fortress 2 was released. Now, 15 years later, it’s still going strong. Okay, maybe not that strong, but we are still getting a handful of updates to this day. The yearly Scream Fortress event has been activated and we just got a handful of cool and interesting maps. There are still plenty of players picking up the game, and it’s still Free to Play. While there may not be as many active players as there used to be, it’s still easy enough to jump into a server and just start playing. Admittedly, it’s been hard… [Continue Reading]

Happy 9th Birthday to the Daily SPUF!

As you may have guessed from the title of this article, today is the Daily SPUF’s birthday! Normally, we don’t actually celebrate the Daily SPUF’s age. Instead we generally write about milestones, like the 3000th article. But since this website is now nine years old, we thought we’d celebrate today as well. After all, you can only turn nine years old once. On August 18th, 2013, aabicus posted his first article about the Half-Zatoichi. In it, he explained why he hated this weapon for Soldier and Demoman. Little did aabicus know that he had started sometime great. Over a month… [Continue Reading]

Happy Birthday Excalibur Umbra

Today, 15th June, is the day that the Sacrifice was released and Excalibur Umbra became accessible to pretty much everyone who had been keeping up with quests. Today is the day that we could all get Excalibur Umbra and calm his pain. But the more I think about it, the more I realise just how messed up that whole mess was. The Sacrifice Quest, that is. The Sacrifice involved finding bits of Excalibur Umbra, scanning them and throwing the parts into your foundry to basically resurrect the poor blighter. What’s weird though is that the Operator and Ordis think they’re… [Continue Reading]

Wait, what, Team Fortress 2 turns 10 round about today?

You’re kidding me, right? Team Fortress 2, that silly war-themed hat simulator? That game with the goofy classes and even goofier weapons and cosmetics, is ten years old? Seriously? Well according to Team Fortress 2’s Steam Store page, yes, it is. October 10th, 2007. A whole decade ago. Bloody hell. That’s a pretty long time. Okay, it’s not really that long in the grand scheme of things. After all, I’m twenty five years old at the time of writing. The real TF2 Medic, if he were actually real, would probably be in his 80’s at least. Although the real Medic… [Continue Reading]

Gargh! We’re all pirates ‘ere!

So, a Demoknight walks into a bar. He’s all dressed up in pirate cosmetics, parrot on his shoulder, a stupid peg leg, that damn Bounty Hat spitting coins everywhere, carrying a Persian Persuader. He’s also got a Tide Turner, but for some reason, it’s strapped to his crotch rather than his arm. Everyone’s giving him funny looks, but no one really wants to ask this drunken Demoknight what’s going on. Finally, the Demoknight makes it to the bar and orders a shot of whiskey, before demanding the entire bottle. The Sniper behind the bar finally decides to ask what’s up… [Continue Reading]

Happy Late Birthday, Team Fortress!

I know I’m late with this, and Team Fortress’s birthday was the 24th of August, but Valve is late with everything so hopefully they forgive me. Anyway, let me get all the fireworks and confetti out of the way… Anyway, back to the actual event itself. Twenty years is a pretty damn long time. Older than my sister, in fact. Yes, Team Fortress is older than my little sister. That… is a worrying thought. It’s a very impressive thing though, that a class-based first person shooter series of games is still around. Despite the fact that the little, Short-Circuit-killable bouncing… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s Pre-Birthday Wishlist

It’s my birthday tomorrow. Instead of asking for a pony or something, I’m going to ask for TF2 stuff. Not items, just some small things that would benefit us and that I’d like. Of course, none of this will happen, but it’s worth mentioning. Or just idly talking about. Talking is nice, right? Thing the first: A little bit more conversation between us and Valve. I’m not actually asking for constant updates and blog posts and stuff. Back when Left 4 Dead was more of a thing, the people who wrote the L4D blog would do the occasional history lesson,… [Continue Reading]
