Things that are Annoying to Play Against

Over in Warframe, I’ve recently begun to encounter Nullifiers. Nullifiers have the ability to create shield-like bubbles which prevent them being damaged from outside the bubble. These enemy units are typically a bit of a nuisance to deal with, because they protect other enemies inside their bubbles. On the plus side, these bubbles shrink and power down, and there’s a clear way of dealing with them – you need to get into the bubble and punch them in the face. It’s not the best, but Nullifiers make for a somewhat needed roadblock to stop you completely steamrolling everything. Back here… [Continue Reading]

On Demoman in General

Some articles sit empty for months or even years, never getting finished. Most of my articles don’t, but this one about Demomen has been ignored. When I wrote the title, I’d played TF2 and played Demoman and my mind was full of thoughts that quickly vanished. Some of those thoughts later appeared as a rant about Demoknights but normal Demomen just sat here. So let’s talk about Demomen! Except… I don’t know what to say. But I do know what I used to say. Demoman was the power house of the game. As much as Medic, if not more than… [Continue Reading]

Gargh! We’re all pirates ‘ere!

So, a Demoknight walks into a bar. He’s all dressed up in pirate cosmetics, parrot on his shoulder, a stupid peg leg, that damn Bounty Hat spitting coins everywhere, carrying a Persian Persuader. He’s also got a Tide Turner, but for some reason, it’s strapped to his crotch rather than his arm. Everyone’s giving him funny looks, but no one really wants to ask this drunken Demoknight what’s going on. Finally, the Demoknight makes it to the bar and orders a shot of whiskey, before demanding the entire bottle. The Sniper behind the bar finally decides to ask what’s up… [Continue Reading]

Edge-Boosting: Trimping in Overwatch

Seasoned demoknights know that ‘trimping’ in Team Fortress 2 is the act of charging at an angle in such a way as to send you flying through the air significantly farther than you normally would. It’s a core ability of the demoknight that sets him apart from any other class in the game, and if you’ve never heard of it, iReima has a bunch of them in the videos on his channel: I wrote an article about trimping a while back at the behest of a fuzzy pink fluffball. While I confess I’ve never really gotten the hang of the… [Continue Reading]

Demoknight is the wrong class and here’s why

You Demoknights are all already grabbing your pitchforks from the title alone, ready to slice my head off. If you are considering such actions, wait until the end of the article. But seriously, Demoknight is wrong. An explosive, high damage, explosive class that exists to blow up nests of Engineers, giving all that up so he can run around with a sword and shield and essentially less mobility (unless you are like Reima and co.) to deal single target damage sounds absolutely ludicrous. It’s DEMOman, for crying out loud! But the thing is, I am not against a melee-orientated class.… [Continue Reading]

Why Resistances are Mostly Bad

Resistances and damage vulnerabilities are a thing in TF2. They’re scattered here and there as pros and cons to using weapons. They often appear as passive pros and cons, but some weapons throw on resistances or vulnerabilities whenever you switch weapon. Whatever Valve does with them, I don’t really like them. Actually, I hate resistances. First off though, damage vulnerabilities. Despite what you may think, vulnerabilities don’t really bother me. They’re easy for most players to understand, if you use, for example, the Candy Cane, you know that explosions are even more deadly than usual and you need to avoid… [Continue Reading]

The Meet your Match Update is here – Early Thoughts

The Meet your Match update has shipped, after apparently holding off for a bit as to not disturb a major ETF2L match, which is nice of them. Honestly though, I’m not sure what to say. I suppose I’m happy that we’re getting an update, and that we’ll be getting more updates in the future. Of course we got new taunts. The TF2 youtube channel had them uploaded but private for ages. Taunts are basically the new hats, but better because they don’t fuck with the art style in any way. Of course we got crates. The keyless crates are interesting.… [Continue Reading]

The Current State of Demoknight

Alright, so its been a good 5 or so months since Tough Break at the time of writing this article. It’s no news flash that Tough Break severely crippled Demoknight like a sledgehammer to the kneecaps. The Tide Turner went from being amazing and threatening to mediocre and a joke, since it can no longer get those precious charge crits. And the Claid, bless its soul, lost its ever-so-valuable charge duration increase, and fell from stardom, into the realm of obsolete weapons. Not to mention how the dear Persian Persuader, one of the more fun and unique melees, went from… [Continue Reading]

The Only Weapon Removed From TF2

I know I already wrote an article on this, but the Persian Persuader has become the first weapon removed from Team Fortress 2. I’ve searched my memory banks and the TF2 Wiki and I’m almost positive the Tough Break Persian Persuader is the first weapon ever to have every single one of its stats removed and replaced with new ones. (I’m not counting the generic sword stats that every bladed Demoknight melee shares, those are inherent in the classification.) For comparison, we went from this: +100% increase in charge recharge rate All ammo collected becomes health Cannot pick up ammo To… [Continue Reading]

My thoughts on the Demoknight changes

I am really not a fan of Demoknight. I think it’s a stupid, gimmicky class that interferes with the roles of Pyros and Spies, essentially doing their job better. And because melee hit detection is so bloody awful, you end up having your head chopped off through walls. “But Medic you can just dodge them or kill them before they get close!” I’m a fucking Medic. I can’t kill them, and you try dodging something that moves at 250% speed when you’re already watching out for everything else trying to murder you. The Tide Turner made things worse, as they’d… [Continue Reading]
