On Garry’s Mod

I actually haven’t really talked much about Garry’s Mod before. I wrote a brief article on the perils of posing in Garry’s Mod, but otherwise it’s a mostly unspoken subject. Which is weird since a lot of the Daily SPUF’s images are made by me in said game. Really, I could have moved on to Source Film Maker ages ago. I originally couldn’t because it ran so slowly on my old laptop, and my current laptop isn’t actually much better. The problem with SFM is that the program is a beefy one, which needs to run both a version of… [Continue Reading]

Warframe – Still Not Sure

So I said I was angry at video games. I still am. But I felt that Warframe deserved a third chance. Yes, third chance, because I played it over a year ago, got stuck somewhere, stopped playing, then uninstalled it to make space for another game. Elder Scrolls Online, I think. Coincidentally, Elder Scrolls Online was uninstalled to make room for Warframe this time round. 60GB of hard drive space could be used for a good 5-6 normal sized games. My first time playing was on an old account. I don’t even remember playing that account, and I’d been told… [Continue Reading]

Contest Entry: Unturned (by Bacxaber)

Unturned is a zombie survival game where the player must aquire food/water, armour, weapons and supplies to craft things. The game was immediately appealing to me, given that it reminded me of the Blockhead series in terms of style. I was quite upset to learn about the food/water meters, as I find myself unable to enjoy my time playing such games whilst I have those problems constantly looming over my head. That said, I see why it’s there. There wouldn’t be much point to the game otherwise. You start off completely naked (literally, you don’t have pants) and you can… [Continue Reading]

Mount & Blade: Warband – I Just Can’t Wait to be King

During last year’s Steam Winter Sale, there was a intriguing game with a mind-boggling proportion of positive reviews, many clocking over a thousand hours of play and telling epic and absurd stories of gameplay. I went and bought the series without a second thought. It was pretty cheap, after all. And then I…didn’t touch it. Left it to gather dust in my Library. This little contest allowed me to redeem myself. The Mount & Blade franchise is made of the titular Mount & Blade, Mount & Blade: Warband, which is pretty much the finished, updated version of the original, its… [Continue Reading]

Phovos reviews Overwatch – Getting into our heads!

Hi, Phovos here! And guess what? We’re finally playing Overwatch! After failing to get into every single beta so far, we’ve been playing the Open Beta that lasts until May 9th. Overwatch is a ton of fun. The characters look cool, the maps are amazing, there’s free loot and it’s overall a blast to play. Very chaotic right now, because of the influx of players who don’t know what they’re doing, but still awesome. The maps are the best part of Overwatch, they’re really nice, good-looking maps, even with their long lines of sight and large amounts of choke points.… [Continue Reading]

The Isaacing of Binds

I’m a royal pain in the ass when it comes to trying out new games. It’s very easy for them to annoy me and for me to stop playing, assuming I even get started. Elder Scrolls Online for example pissed me off early on by making lockpicking, stealth and archery all a real pain in the backside. No, I wasn’t expecting Skyrim Online, but I expected, I don’t know, something better, especially since it costs so much just to play the base game, and they had subscriptions and now they have an in-game shop. The Binding of Isaac though is… [Continue Reading]

Arena Mode needs urgent fixing

Bundled up with the Invasion update was something almost miraculous. For the first time in goodness how long, Valve added a new Arena map to our already-bulging map list. This is highly unusual because normally maps for unplayed game modes never get added. We generally only see KOTH, Payload or Control Points of some sort, or someone brings out something completely new that gets abandoned soon after. Arena was considered one of those things, but here we are, with a brand spanking new Arena map – Byre. But unfortunately, despite the niceness and simplicity of the map, people are soon… [Continue Reading]

Playing with the Creation Kit

Lately, I’ve been playing a lot of Skyrim. While Medic is still at the Throat of the World contemplating his life and what he should do next (Warning, spoilers – the beginning is here), I’ve been messing around with my second most OP character – Lokmahro, the literal Dragonborn. I say second most overpowered, simply because Medic was really powerful. I didn’t tell you this when I wrote Medic in Skyrim, but I had to redo the Alduin battle because my Syringe Gun killed him in 5 seconds. I wouldn’t mind, I hadn’t even leveled up Archery that much and… [Continue Reading]

Some things you shouldn’t do in a Free To Play game

Today, we turn into some sort of Buzz Feed thingy and talk about a bunch of things that people rally shouldn’t put in their Free to Play games. Yes, I know you make these games to make money, but there’s plenty of ways you can do it without pissing off players. Non-pissed off players are more likely to tell other people about your game and spend money on it than pissed off players will. So let’s begin. Number 1 – Pay To Win This is always number one on any sort of Free To Play checklist. Is there anything in… [Continue Reading]
