Flooricide

Killing Floor 2 came out recently, and I’ve taken the opportunity to take my first steps into the Killing Floor franchise. For someone who’s spent a significant amount of my gaming time perfecting my ability and understanding of Left 4 Dead 2 and Payday:The Heist, it’s a bit odd for me to avoid the third member of Steam’s horde-based co-op triumvirate. But I’d never liked how the objective was literally killing the zombies (or Zeds, to be politically correct.) I prefer my enemies to be an obstacle preventing me from achieving a more global objective, like reaching the next safe room or breaking… [Continue Reading]

A Flurry of TF2-Related Games

With all the doom and gloom surrounding Team Fortress 2, sometimes we need to just walk away. Or at least take a break for a bit. While TF2 is very quiet, why not take a break? There’s a host of other games available to play. Let’s start off with Fortress Forever. Or Team Fortress 1.5, as made by the community. This isn’t just any hommage to games like Quake Team Fortress, this has been rebuilt from the ground up. Rebalanced too. It keeps the class names from TFC, but with balance tweaks and bug fixes and nicer graphics. Medic should… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Project Ghost

Welcome back to Mod Showcase. Brickinator again, here to chat about Project Ghost, a fairly new mod gamemode that’s part of the TF2 Tightrope community. Project Ghost draws many parallels with ghost-hunting TV shows; there’s lots of people in a cramped area, constant screaming and a complete lack of ghosts. Why the hell they chose the name ‘Project Ghost’ is beyond me. In fact, I haven’t got a ghost of a clue why they chose it! Comedy gold. Project Ghost is a plugin for Arena mode. Remember Arena mode? Me neither. At the start of each new round, the game… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Zombie Fortress

Welcome back to Mod Showcase. I’m Brickinator and today’s mod is the imaginatively titled ‘Zombie Fortress’; a game type which features the undead because everything does these days. Just as you’d expect, RED team start off as survivors and BLU are the zombies. The survivors cannot respawn but the zombies can, so there’s a constant stream of the brain-munchers throughout the match.  Luckily for the survivors, the zombies can’t use guns. But they can carry baseball bats and knives for some reason. Maybe they were armed by a Glaswegian gang or something. The classes you can play as are restricted;… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Dodgeball

Hello. I’m Brickinator and this is another instalment of Mod Showcase; the column that watches back. This time we’ll be taking a peak at Dodgeball, a mod gamemode that combines the ancient arts of dodging things and not dying. In Dodgeball,  everyone plays as the Pyro. The two teams spawn on opposite sides of a floating court and can only use Flamethrowers. You can’t pass onto the enemy side and if you fall off the edge of the court you scream and disappear into a gaping hole, just like your mum last night. I have a very patchy memory of my… [Continue Reading]
