Vision – The One Thing I Never Got About League of Legends

There are two things I’ve never really understood in League of Legends. The first is how to jungle efficiently. Jungling in League of Legends has changed a lot over the years, with different monsters and buffs and items, but I never learned how to farm properly and when the best time to gank, help a lane or whatever. The other thing I never understood was vision. Now, when I used to play League of Legends, I mostly played support. And support was generally in charge of applying vision to the map, as well as protecting the ADC and stopping them… [Continue Reading]

Dark Spooky Forest Week: Twisted Treeline – The Old Spooky League of Legends Map

League of Legends, as far as most people are concerned, has two maps. It has Summoners Rift, the main map that 99% of people play on. There’s also Howling Abyss, the map mostly used for ARAM games. But there used to be other game modes and other maps too. The Crystal Scar was a weird control-point-based map for 5v5. And then there was Twisted Treeline. A 3v3 map, built around the same premise as Summoners Rift, except spookier. Basically, it was a 3v3 version of the standard gameplay. The concept was simple. You have a smaller map with less players,… [Continue Reading]

A Weird Lack of Cooldowns

People don’t tend to notice things until they don’t have them any more. You don’t realise how much you miss someone or something until it’s gone. Alternatively, you don’t notice how annoying  something can be until it suddenly hits you. Like cooldowns in video games. You know what I mean. You’ve got this awesome power, you want to use it. You save it up for the perfect moment. You use it. Now you’ve got to wait until you use it again. How long that is depends on the ability and the game. For example, the cooldown on Unrelenting Force, everyone’s… [Continue Reading]

A Series of Unlikely Gaming Stories 2 – The Diamond Volibear

Back in Season 3, things were simpler. Things were busy. There was always people playing matches in League of Legends. The map was ugly, the characters were blocky, but things were pretty stable and everyone seemed somewhat satisfied. Even a newbie like me, I was satisfied with the game. Then, I was a newbie, really slowly leveling up. I only had a handful of games under my belt, and in those days, it took forever to level up a new account. Even if you got all those first wins of the day bonuses and made use of the experience boost… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s Favourite Video Game Songs

I have weird tastes in music. Although I generally dislike things like pop and jazz, I’ll happily listen to a lot of different types of rock and metal music. I am a fan of Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, Crowded House, Linkin Park and Disturbed all at the same time. I actually saw Radiohead live when I was 11, and I reviewed their last album here. When it comes to video game music, it’s not as bad, a lot of the things I like have common themes about them. Unfortunately, I have zero musical talent nor do I have… [Continue Reading]

The Free To Play Business Model

For some context, take a look at this video: Basically, when OB51 arrived in Paladins, a lot of complains had rose from Reddit and YouTube about the painfully large amounts of grind that everyone faced, with the only way out being sinking money to buy Founder’s Packs and boosters. And when I said “grind”, I don’t mean grinding for cosmetics. The grind is for loadout cards which players need to play the game well. The customizable loadout card system is one of the unique selling points of Paladins. And this marks the second time Paladin’s business model’s under fire, with… [Continue Reading]

The Newish League of Legends Look

Over the last few months or so, Riot has finally finished working on the new look for the League of Legends client, and it’s now finally the main client, with the old one going bye-bye forever. Really, it was about time, as the old client was a mess of bugs and weird glitches and was just a little bit outdated. Plus it used Adobe AIR, which is a massive pile of shit. My first thoughts on opening LoL for the first time in ages was “where’s the launcher?” since Riot have now combined the LoL launcher/patcher with the client itself.… [Continue Reading]

A Review of League of Legends as of late, with bots

Yes, I may be a stupid, Coop-VS-AI-only retard when it comes to League of Legends, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have opinions on the game. Coop VS AI is still an integral part of League of Legends, a game mode that is always available and is just as valid as Twisted Treeline and Howling Abyss. It’s also more valid than Dominion, which got removed. There are plenty of opinions to be had. The biggest opinion here is balance, but balance in Coop VS AI is a bit hard to come by, since the bots are all still really fucking… [Continue Reading]

The Good and the Bad of Dynamic Queue

Season 6 in League of Legends has been a complete roller coaster, with a ton of highs and lows, buffs and nerfs, lovetaps and complete reworks. The biggest change though is how you get into a game. Now, there’s two forms of queue – blind pick queue and draft mode queue. Ranked mode uses the draft mode system. Each team gets three bans, then everyone picks a champion, one at a time (kinda) and locks in, then the game starts. Blind pick is kinda as it suggests, everyone just picks the champion they want, and this is used for the… [Continue Reading]

The League of Legends 6.9 Patch

Hey, look! It’s the League of Legends 6.9 patch! Hahaha, 6.9, get it? Sixty Nine? Right? Yeah. Bad joke, I know. But it seems like Riot have taken the fucking around thing and have REALLY messed things up this update. Patch 6.9, also known as the Mid year Mage update and the time that Ziggs destroyed every tower ever, went and shook up the mages, giving some of them some unique boosts, others some unneeded buffs and others some nerfs for no real reason. Unlike the other updates, the Juggernaut and Marksman updates, the Mage update has worked me up… [Continue Reading]
