In Which Medic Writes Articles

This article wraps up aabicus week! Hope everybody enjoyed me chewing through my old backlog, I’m certainly happy to finally have gotten a few of these out in the open. I’m wrapping the week up with a long overdue article, a sequel to the two-part series highlighting some of the best submissions from our most prolific writers. And nobody is more prolific than Chief Editor Medic herself, who at this point I suspect has written more content than the rest of us combined not to mention done a ton of website design, server hosting and image creation). While it’s tough… [Continue Reading]

Why Medic is better than Mercy

As a person who goes around the internet calling himself “Medic”, I get asked a lot about Mercy from Overwatch. I often get asked if Mercy is attractive and if Medic and Mercy would ever get together. I’ve actually answered that question before, and the answer is a flat out no. Their personalities are wildly different. There’s no way Mercy would even take a second look at Medic. Assuming Medic even makes it that long (since canonically he gives himself 50 more years to live back in the 1970’s and Overwatch is set in the future). Medic and Moira though?… [Continue Reading]

How to Play a Combat Medic in Fortnite

Back in July I saw an amazing video on the Fortnite subreddit. User JyeunJyeun had made a little mock recruitment trailer showcasing his new playstyle, where he exclusively focused on supporting his team in the massive 50v50 shootouts. I’d played a bit of Fortnite here and there, but I’d mostly let it fall by the wayside because I prefer games with a healing class. JyeunJyeun’s medic playstyle was the gateway drug that finally got me into Fortnite, and I made a quick video in honor of the playstyle! (Good timing too, because if you liked his first video, JyeunJyeun’s actually… [Continue Reading]

Healing among the chaos

For years I have been playing Medic solo in pubs. If there is ever a law banning self-torture, I’ll be jailed for life. After trying to heal in an environment where cooperation is minimal and communication is optional, I realize that the holy trinity of Crusader’s Crossbow, Medi Gun and Ubersaw, while powerful, is not too practical for me in this setting. Thus, my own pubcrawler Medic loadout isn’t the holy trinity, rather it consists of the Syringe Gun, Quick-Fix and the Amputator. I am pretty well aware of the three weapons in the holy trinity, and I know their strengths,… [Continue Reading]

Healer Woes

If you never felt that playing healer is frustrating in games, then you’ve never played a healer. Ever. Sure, you may have picked a healer class, but you definitely have been playing him as a DPS. Anyone who has played a healer will have experienced at least half of the things in the list below. Most of you who mainly play healers, like me, probably experienced all of them. Teammates wandering into harm’s way and expecting you to follow. Teammates abandoning you and leaving you to die. Teammates calling for aid when they are way too far away. Teammates calling… [Continue Reading]

Starting Out

Team Fortress Classic, Team Fortress 2, and Overwatch have defined my gaming career. TFC was the first online multiplayer game I ever played, TF2 will forever be my most-played game with over 3400 hours clocked, and Overwatch was my flagship title when I started getting really serious about creating GIFs, videos, and overall promoting myself within the gaming community. In any game I play, I’ve always considered the “first life” something worth remembering, since it’s my very first story told from beginning to end within the confines of this new universe. I actually played TFClassic first, even though I started my… [Continue Reading]

Die Schildwand

In my article on Heavy secondaries, I commented on how I don’t want shields to be added into the game. To be more specific, I don’t want the Overwatch-type shields, because to me, it will lead to a huge damage sponge covering off a whole chokepoint or shielding a whole team, grinding the game’s pace to a halt. A giant damage-blocking wall that can be deployed at will is not fun to play against at all. However, such a shield may be a great idea as an Über for a Medi Gun. For one, the Medic will need to earn that Über… [Continue Reading]

IT’S OVER 1900! Celebrating 1900 articles and 900 Medic articles – Giveaway!

I said I wouldn’t do milestone articles and stuff but I like the number 900 and the number 1900 has the number 900 in it as well, so double bubble. The 2000th article is still a way away, and it’s unlikely that the articles I write will coincide with the big 2K. Also I just kinda wanted to do a giveaway. But first off, let’s spend a moment thinking just how awesome we are, having published over 1900 articles on the Daily SPUF, one a day since our inception, and the fact that Missy Medic here, the person writing this… [Continue Reading]

Why Medic?

I suppose there are a lot of people that, when they first got into TF2 and saw the Medic class, asked this: Out of the nine classes available, why would anyone go for the one class that can’t kill anything to go healer? The main draw for me to play Medic is probably power. Every other class in the game has the power of death, whether it is with the pinpoint precision, single target elimination of the Sniper, or the mass destruction of the Demoman. Medic has none of those, despite what every single Battle Medic out there says. Medic… [Continue Reading]

The Vita-Saw after its first rework

Seven years after it was first introduced, the Vita-Saw received its first change in the Jungle Inferno update. The old Vita-Saw’s stats are rather easy to understand. In exchange for a 10 Hp reduction to the Medic’s maximum health (150 Hp → 140 Hp), the Medic gets to keep up to 20% of his Übercharge meter upon death. This means that the Medic gets to respawn with the amount of Über he had before he died, capped at 20%. Sure, it’s a bummer to die at 100% Übercharge and respawning with only 20% of your hard-earned Über, but it’s better than respawning with… [Continue Reading]
