The Lapras Raid Event

I kinda wish Niantic would do more Raid events like the Lapras raid event that just happened. Like the Legendary Birds raid events and the Gengar raid day, the Lapras raid day stuck a raid on every single available gym (assuming it didn’t already have a raid on it) that’s available for three hours. During this time you have an increased chance of getting a shiny (which is a guaranteed catch if you get a shiny from a successful raid) and everyone gets 5 free orange Raid Passes, valid only for the raid event. When I first heard of the… [Continue Reading]

Torchic Community Day

I really enjoyed the Torchic Community Day. Just like the previous Bagon and Totodile ones, the Torchic Community day gave us three hours of KFC battered and breaded chicken fun as we baked in the sun while throwing balls at cute digital flightless birds. Mostly. Torchic Day was on Sunday rather than Saturday this month, meaning I saw a few more people wandering around. There’s normally two good spots to camp and catch Pokemon – the harbour and town hall and while I’ve always opted for town hall (because it’s shadier and you don’t get harassed by people trying to… [Continue Reading]

Leafeon*, Glaceon*, Shellos, Gible and more have arrived in Pokemon Go!

*Assuming you have 200 coins or someone to buy a special lure for you. The last few Pokemon of the Sinnoh Region have finally arrived! After being left behind for a damn long time, not to mention the fact that some Pokemon from Generation 3 still aren’t available, we can finally grab the last few non-Legendary Pokemon for the Sinnoh Pokedex! The most recent Pokemon Go update, straight after the Detective Pikachu event, has brought out the remaining, more interesting Pokemon and dumped them into the wild. Except for Rotom and a bunch of Legendaries and Mythicals, but most of… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon You’ll Never Be Able To Obtain

In Pokemon Go, there are some Pokemon you will never, ever find in the wild. Because some Pokemon only appear in specific regions. Not regions in normal Pokemon games, where you can only get Sinnoh Pokemon in the Sinnoh region. Regions as in genuine geographical regions. The idea is that Pokemon on earth actually live in different locations. Which makes sense, because Pokemon would live in various environments based on their dietary needs and all that. It’s cool and all, but Pokemon being unavailable in different countries is quite a pain in the ass when it comes to actual gameplay.… [Continue Reading]

On Living Close to Pokestops

Pokemon Go, more than anything, is a game that really improves or gets worse depending on where you live. The bigger the city, the closer to the USA you are, the better your experiences are while playing the game. Okay, that is a bit of a generalisation, but it’s basically true. If you play Pokemon Go in even a remotely rural area, then you have a massive disadvantage than someone living in a city. I didn’t realise how bad this was until someone I do local raids with showed me some screenshots and described his attempts at spoofing. Spoofing, for… [Continue Reading]

Tons of Useless Raids

The other day, in the three places across town that have 90% of all the city’s gyms, there were no interesting raids. None at all. So for the last few days, my free Raid Pass has gone unused. I’ll tell you what there were raids for though. Granbull. Four of them, in fact. Granbull, for those who can’t remember, is the final evolution of Snubbull, a small, pink clown dog Pokemon that spawns regularly whenever the weather is cloudy. Now, Snubbull has a really nice shiny form. It looks adorable. Granbull’s shiny form is mediocre though, mostly because Granbull is… [Continue Reading]

Getting Closer to Legendary Monsters

I’ve noticed a change in Pokemon Go recently. A change when it comes to Legendary Pokemon. There’s something off about them, and not the fact that many of the recent Legendaries can be taken down with just four accounts. No, the change I’ve noticed comes to how… close they are. A while back, I wrote a very angry, very scathing article about Latias, the little red Pokemon that’s more of an airplane than it is a dragon. My biggest criticism of it was that the bastard was way too small a target, moved around too much, attacked too much and,… [Continue Reading]

The Terrifying World of Pokemon Go

When you think about it, Pokemon Go is actually a somewhat terrifying game. Well, it’s terrifying when you think about things too hard, which is what I’ve been doing lately. The premise of Pokemon Go is simple – Pokemon are escaping the Pokemon universe and appearing in our universe. First it was affecting Kanto only, but it’s been spreading, and now Pokemon from the Hoenn, Johto and Sinnoh regions are appearing as well. They’re basically invading our universe. In the mean time, us mere humans have been fighting back in the only way we know how – by capturing and… [Continue Reading]

Castform Community Day

Castforms! Castforms everywhere! Normal, stumpy little Castforms! Little teardrop-like, cloud-shaped bastards with little bollocks for feet! Castform was one of the first Pokemon I caught when I started playing Pokemon Go, so I have a slight fondness for the cute little bollock cloud, bollock sun, bollock raindrop and bollock snowflake. And yesterday’s Castform Community Day was a lot of fun! Wait, what’s that? It wasn’t a Castform Community Day? It was a Lotad Community Research Day? Well I wouldn’t have guessed, considering how many Castforms were spawning and how many of them were shiny. Unfortunately for Castform, only the normal… [Continue Reading]

Treecko Community Day

Well another Community Day has been and gone. This one featured Treecko, the Generation 3 grass starter Pokemon and number 1 in the Hoenn national Pokedex. But this Community Day was ever so slightly different. I mean, the normal stuff wasn’t different at all. A ton of Treeckos spawned, mostly replacing the spawns of every other Pokemon. Lure Modules had a longer timer on them and for this event, all eggs put into incubators hatched four times faster than normal (which meant the one 10km egg I got hatched in 2.5km instead of 10). Treeckos were everywhere, but Lure Modules… [Continue Reading]
