Shiny Pidgey and Rattata are now in Pokemon Go!

Hope you weren’t feeling burnt out by all these last-minute events in Pokemon Go, because Niantic just announced another one! https://twitter.com/PokemonGoApp/status/1100139961750298625 Today is Pokemon Day, the 23rd anniversary of when Pokemon Red and Green first came out on GameBoy in 1996! To celebrate, Niantic’s taking a walk down memory lane by dedicating an event to the Pokemon that players encounter at the beginning of those games. From February 26 to February 28th, Kanto legendaries are returning to raids (probably the birds, though I’m crossing my fingers for Shadow Ball Mewtwos), Pikachu and Eevee spawns will be wearing flower crowns, and… [Continue Reading]

Latias is a Bitch

All of a sudden, after the Lugia and Ho-Oh event and the Kyogre and Groudon event, there’s suddenly a Latias event. Just Latias. The red and white airplane dragon Pokemon. You know, the one that’s paired up with Latios, the blue and white airplane dragon Pokemon. This mini-event popped up out of the blue just as people were getting kinda hyped up for the Clamperl Research event. In fact, a lot of people didn’t even see the announcement as it kinda got buried by the Treecko Community Day announcement. So yeah, Latias is currently in Level 5 raids, somewhat sharing… [Continue Reading]

Clamperl Research Day

When I saw the announcement for the Clamperl Community Research event, I thought two things: “Why is Clamperl only being released now?” and “Oh heck, is this going to be like the Feebas event?” Thankfully, while the answer to the first question is unknown, the answer to the second question is a resounding “NO!” It seems that Niantic learned a huge amount from the Feebas event because this Clamperl event was a billion times easier. First off, the research. Far better research. The Make Nice Throws and Make Great Throws tasks returned, but their numbers were reduced to 5 Nice… [Continue Reading]

A New Camera Mode for Pokemon Go

I’m going to be very blunt here: The AR (Augmented Reality) mode for Pokemon Go is a royal pain in the ass. Having to hold your phone and its camera steady while trying to catch anything but the most basic of Pokemon is awkward and you’ve got to spin around like a twonk trying to actually find the Pokemon because they’re never where you expect them to be. That’s why I was so thankful that the AR mode refused to work on both the Celebi and the Mew quests for me. That being said, the whole AR mode thing does… [Continue Reading]

Melty Meltan and Melty Melmetal

It’s only taken me, what, four months to get Meltan? I finished the Let’s Go Meltan quest back in November and it’s now mid February. During those months, very little of interest happened with Meltan. I managed to acquire three mystery boxes by transferring some Pokemon to the two people I met who had Nintendo Switches and, thanks to trading Meltans once a day with my brother and the Valentines Day double candy event, I finally managed to acquire Melmetal. Melmetal requires 400 candies to evolve, joining the ranks of 3 other 400-candy evolutions Gyarados, Altaria and Wailord. The difference… [Continue Reading]

Into the Candy Grinder

Before we start, no, this isn’t about Candy Crush. I’ve been considering writing an article about that for a while, but I just don’t know where to start with that insanely popular mobile game. No, this article is about the other insanely popular mobile game, Pokemon Go. “Wait, there’s no candy grinder in Pokemon Go.” Yes there is. In fact there is enough candy for every base Pokemon up until the beginnings of Generation 4. When you catch a Pokemon, you are rewarded candy. 3 candy for a normal catch, 6 candy if you use a Pinap berry on level… [Continue Reading]

So Many Pokemon and Nowhere to Show Off

In my six months of playing Pokemon Go, I’ve managed to catch some very nice Pokemon. Just the other day, I managed to catch my third Pokemon with perfect IVs, a Groudon with Mud Slap and Solar Blast, and I also managed to catch a shiny Shuppet and a shiny Kyogre. And then there’s my shiny Feebas, which I am in the process of walking so I can evolve it into a Milotic. I’ve come across a little problem though. It’s a stupid problem but it’s a problem nonetheless. There’s no real way to show my Pokemon off. The only… [Continue Reading]

The Feebas Community Research Three Hour Event Thing

Not every Pokemon is suitable for a community day. Many Pokemon either aren’t popular enough, don’t have enough evolution stages or simply have mediocre shiny forms. Other Pokemon evolve in too awkward a way to be able to give them a special move and flood areas with them for three hours. One of those Pokemon is Feebas, and Feebas was the recipient of a miniature community event. Unlike other events, Feebas didn’t have a higher chance of spawning in the wild. For three hours on January 19th, from noon until 3pm depending on your time zone, all research tasks from… [Continue Reading]

Research Breakthroughs in Pokemon Go

Back in early 2018, Niantic created Research Breakthroughs, a reward for doing field research tasks and doing a new one every day. Do 7 days worth of field research and you’re rewarded with an encounter with a mysterious Pokemon, which changed every month. First off you could get Articuno, then Zapdos, then Moltres, then the legendary doggos Raikou, Entei and Suicine, followed by the rather odd choice of Shedinja. If you timed your field research well enough, you could obtain four or even five of each Pokemon during the months in which they were available. In December 2018, Niantic announced… [Continue Reading]

Why Spark is the Best Team Leader

Honestly, I’m like two years too late on this article. Most people have already picked their teams and there’s absolutely no way of changing your team without starting a new account. Some people are insane enough to never pick a team, but most people will tend to pick red, blue or yellow. From my brief research, it seems that Team Mystic, with Articuno as their mascot and Blanche as the team’s leader, is the most popular team. Apparently about 40% of players are with Team Mystic but I can’t actually find any up to date stats, most of these figures… [Continue Reading]
