A Perfect Ending to a Mythical Discovery

After so damn long, I finally managed to finish A Mythical Discovery, the special research in Pokemon Go for Mew. I got stuck on this quest so many damn times. But it all finished very abruptly and probably in the best way possible. So the Mew quest is a bit of a funny one, and is actually a requirement if you want to do the Celebi quest. The Celebi quest unlocks when you reach stage 4 of 8 of A Mythical Discovery. But both quests are pretty similar, with the same old series of steps. The Mew quest though doesn’t… [Continue Reading]

5 Items I Want to See in Pokemon GO

Bag space in Pokemon GO is precious. Pokestops, Gyms, Gifts, Field Research, level-ups, and raids will quickly shower you with more items than you know what to do with, so it is not without serious pontification that I humbly suggest several items Niantic could add to Pokemon GO that would improve the game in subtle ways. 1. Master Ball: This one’s kinda a freebie for this sort of list, to be honest. It’s almost certain they’re going to add a Master Ball eventually. For those not in the know, the Master Ball is an infamous item from the main Pokemon games. You… [Continue Reading]

A Ripple in Time – Special Research for Celebi

Special Research in Pokemon Go is, as the name suggests, special research that has you go through various tasks, working your way towards a legendary Pokemon. At the time of writing, there are two special research quests, the Mew Quest “A Mythical Discovery” and the Celebi Quest “A Ripple in Time”. While I still need about 60 more Magikarp candies for the Mew quest, I’m so close to catching that damn Celebi. It’s been a real slog. Funnily enough, step one was simple. I had to power up Pokemon five times by feeding them candy, I had to battle in… [Continue Reading]

My First and Last Ex Raid

Editor’s note (20/11/18) : This wasn’t my last Ex Raid but I was so pissed off at the time and the chances of getting into Ex Raids in general was pretty slim anyway, that I was pretty sure at the time that I wouldn’t see another one. I was so damn excited on the 26th of September. I got an Ex Raid pass in Pokemon Go. A Raid Pass specifically for October 2nd, 1pm. My first one. Probably my only one, because I don’t normally do raids. I can’t do anything above a level 2 raid on my own and… [Continue Reading]

My First Pokemon GO raid

I was supposed to go out for coffee with my mum and my bro, but after joining a local Pokemon GO Facebook group, plans changed slightly. There was a 5 star raid going on, only ten minutes away. The cafe we went to had jo diet drinks apart from black coffee, so mum wasn’t too annoyed with the two of us buggering off to do a raid. We got the messages, six other people were going to the raid, so two more sets of six Pokemon to throw at this raid would have been helpful. It was just down the… [Continue Reading]

A Happy Chikorita Community Day

September 22nd, between midday and 3pm across the world, was Chikorita Community Day. The green, grassy, derpy, flowery, generation 2 starter Pokemon began spawning all over the place, with any third form evolutions gaining a unique attack if evolved during that time and a higher chance to obtain shinies. Chikorita basically replaced every other Pokemon, except for the odd Mankey or Meowth. Of course, I had to go and catch some Chikoritas. I arrived at the town hall just before noon with my brother, meeting up with a couple of other players. Before noon, there were various Kanto Pokemon wandering… [Continue Reading]

Ditto Does Not Exist

You know what? My shitty luck aside, I don’t mind the RNG in Pokemon GO. I don’t mind the rather random research, the minuscule chances to even see a shiny, the random stuff from Gyms and Pokestops. I don’t mind the fact that Pokemon have a chance to flee and sometimes refuse to stay in Pokeballs and all that. The only thing I’ve really complained about is being unable to catch Pokemon after defeating them in Raids, especially when I’ve thrown 5+ golden Razberries at them and they still escape, great curve balls or otherwise. But right now, I’ve been… [Continue Reading]

Even Pokemon GO Is Complicated

I wasn’t kidding when I said I’d never played a Pokemon game before Pokemon GO. Aside from basic Generation 1 Pokemon names and the games of the more poplar, later generation Pokemon, I had no idea about the more complicated stuff in Pokemon. The majority of my Pokemon knowledge comes from watching the old TV show back when I was 10 and ‘collecting’ Pokemon Cards (i.e. just getting the cards I liked). I also watched the same Pokemon show, dubbed badly into Greek when I was 12. Apart from that and some vague promo things like metal disc collectibles in… [Continue Reading]

More Rambling About Pokemon GO

Pokemon GO is something I kinda wish I jumped on earlier. But how could I have jumped on the bandwagon when I had no mobile data on my phone plan? It’s only been the last year or so that I’ve had 4G to use, and holy heck I have treated it like a scarce resource. To the point that I genuinely felt bad getting a €6 top up of 250MB. Because I’d used up my 150MB playing Pokemon GO. Yes, mobile data here is expensive. And free WI-FI areas are few and far between, assuming you can even connect in… [Continue Reading]

“Ya Wanna See Mah Pokemans?” Part 2 – Some More Pokemon GO

So I’ve been playing Pokemon GO for about a week now. To the point that I better understand how everything works. And I actually have some good Pokemon now. I’ve completed various things, am on part 3 of 8 when it comes to the Mew quest and am now level 20. It turns out, come level 20, that is when the real grind starts. Up until now, it’s all been rather easy. I’ve actually been leveling up all over the place. Things definitely felt slower around levels 17-19, but from about level 6 to level 10, it all happened so… [Continue Reading]
