Research Breakthroughs Completely Suck

Today, as I do every week, I completed my seven days of research and was given a Research Breakthroughy. Breakthroughs are a reward for playing regularly and doing research tasks. You get some supplies, some experience and an encounter with a Pokemon, which normally changes with every new month. However, the quality of these rewards varies greatly. To the point of pointlessness. The old days were best Back in 2019, when research breakthroughs became a thing, the rewards from research breakthroughs were genuinely awesome. They’d mostly be a Legendary of some sort. And not just the Kanto legendary Birbs either… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon: Much Ado About Breloom

I’ve written articles about my two favorite Pokémon already, but we humans just can’t resist making Top 3s of everything, can we? While Rotom is still my favorite battle Pokémon, Breloom is usually far easier to find in the games it appears. Its pre-evolution Shroomish is a common sight in early-game grassy routes, with its adorable stubby legs and grumpy face. I can’t look at its unamused little frown without smiling. Breloom (along with Shroomish) is clearly a fungus Pokémon, but I like how much more interesting its design gets than just that. Sure its mushroom hat is awesome, but… [Continue Reading]

Things I’d Like Pokemon Buddies to do

I love the whole buddy system in Pokemon GO. It’s like having a little virtual companion that doesn’t need much maintenance. However, considering how long it takes to get to Best Buddies, the incentives for doing so are a bit… lackluster. So today I’ll be musing about some extra incentives that I’d like to see. Spin Pokestops Buddies actually already have a thing to do with pokestops, but it’s not that useful. After all, we can already see Pokestops we haven’t visited yet. The buddy just doesn’t do anything useful. However, we can put our Pokemon to work by having… [Continue Reading]

Early Thoughts and Speculations on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

I’m not normally one to speculate about new Pokemon games. After all, I only really play Pokemon GO, which is currently in spooky mode. But after having played Pokemon Sword, I think I cam finally look forward to a new Pokemon game. So far, I’ve liked what I’ve seen with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. But I do have some thoughts. What I don’t have are any pictures, so have this picture of the Kanto starters. Because I’m pretty certain we’ll get some new form for Charizard. Not seen many new Pokemon Cyclizar in particular stands out. It’s a Dragon/Normal type… [Continue Reading]

The Curiosity that is Meltan

The other day, while I was making room in my backpack in Pokemon GO, I scrolled past the Mysterious Box. This box is obtained by transferring a Pokemon to either Pokemon Let’s Go! or Pokemon Home. Opening the box releases a mysterious scent that attracts a very unusual Pokemon. This Pokemon is Meltan, the most unusual of Mythical Pokemon. A Unique Mythical It turns out, Meltan is unique in a lot of different ways. Not only is Meltan a Pokemon you can get multiple of, but it’s also the only mythical that is obtained outside of the main Pokemon game… [Continue Reading]

Is Dynamax Just Mega Evolutions for Everyone?

The other day, I was looking up fake Pokemon, and also found myself looking at fake Mega Evolutions. Although fake Pokemon are generally quite cool, I find that fake Megas are even cooler. You’re taking a cool Pokemon and making it bigger and cooler by using a special crystal ball thingy. Well, most of the time. Sometimes even mediocre Pokemon get awesome upgrades. They both work similarly The rules are very similar. You can only Mega Evolve or Dynamax one Pokemon in a battle, afterwards you’re locked out of it. During your Mega Evolution or Dynamax, you get a shot… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon GO’s most useless Legendary and Mythical Pokemon

When you encounter and catch a Legendary Pokemon, you assume that it will be a powerhouse, doing lots of damage, carving out its own niche or just all-round very good. Unfortunately though, in the world of Pokemon GO, things don’t always work out. Because Pokemon GO’s system is a tad different, Attack and Defense stats are rolled into one, and Speed simply isn’t a stat at all. Because of this and how Pokemon attacks work, way too many Pokemon end up being a mess. And this doubly applies to legendary Pokemon. Xerneas We start with one of my favourite legendary… [Continue Reading]

Several Reasons Why You Should Have a Machamp or Two

Everyone should have a Machamp. It’s such a useful Pokemon. Why? Well Machamp is just so damn useful. It’s good to have a few of them, six at least. Even having one single, great Machamp does a lot for you. But how useful IS Machamp? There are plenty of reasons why. The best choice for defeating gyms What do you normally see in Gyms? Snorlax, Slaking and Blissey, of course! Big, bulky Pokemon. These Pokemon have high health, even as their motivation drops. These Pokemon are also Normal types. Which means they are weak to Fighting types. And Machamp has… [Continue Reading]

More Candies for Better Throws Should be the Norm

During the Ultra Bug Out event, a new passive bonus was released, alongside a bunch of other event buffs. Simply put, you’d get more candy based on the quality of a throw. A Nice throw would earn you one extra candy, a Great throw two candy and an Excellent throw 3 candy. With a pinap berry, that’s up to 12 candy for an Excellent throw on a normal Pokemon. Pretty neat, right? Sadly, this extra candy for good throws is only for the Bug Out event, and once it’s gone, we might not ever see it again. However, the extra… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon Shield and Feeling Deflated

So I’ve been playing Pokemon Shield for a while now. I’ve finished the main story and become the champion already. But I am still picking the game up occasionally. Why? Mostly to try and fill my Pokedex. Even if it’s a futile effort. But there is something bothering me about Pokemon Shield, and it’s the difficulty. The game is too easy. In fact, it’s insanely easy. To the point that I didn’t lose a single battle in the entirety of the main story. Only a handful of characters were of any challenge to me. Heck, even Leon, with his Gigantamax… [Continue Reading]
