Left 4 Dead – My First Game on Steam

I still vaguely remember buying Left 4 Dead. It was a long time ago. I was on holiday in the UK visiting my family. We were in the town where we used to live when I lived in the UK too, in the town centre, going through a gaming shop of some sort. I picked Left 4 Dead up for £15 and happily took it back to my grandma’s. I wouldn’t be able to replay until I returned home, a week or so later. That was also when I made my Steam account, which is now, what, 8 years old?… [Continue Reading]

Interaction Design and the User Experience

Don’t mind me. Just summarizing what I’ve been learning lately. But I feel a LOT of this could be applied to gaming, so maybe it might interest you as well. Interaction design focuses on how people use and work with devices and other products, such as computers and smartphones, but also how they work with interfaces in general, such as that of smart watches and ATMs, anything with an interface. The context of interaction design is on users, activities and environments, with users focusing on physical, sensory and cognitive capabilities, while environments include not just location, but also the setting,… [Continue Reading]

That Slow Feeling of Being Burnt Out

It was bound to happen eventually. I’ve been playing Warframe for a long time, coming up to about two years now. And now, after hitting Mastery Rank 23, I’m starting to get burnt out. I’m running out of things to do, and a string of bad luck when it comes to acquiring the new stuff is making me kinda tired. Okay, yes, I got an Arcane Energize yesterday, but I’ve gone though twenty Neo B4 relics trying to get a Kronen Prime handle and eventually it all starts wearing you down. Let’s be fair though. Warframe has done an amazing… [Continue Reading]

Rambling About the Corpus

The Corpus aren’t treated fairly in Warframe. Most of the time they’re simply set to one side. Most of the time, we have to deal with pissed off Grineer. The Natah quest featured Grineer. The War Within featured Grineer. The Silver Grove, Chains of Harrow, the Plains of Eidolon, the Sands of Inaros and even the shitty quest that is the Limbo Theorem are all Grineer places. What is Corpus-orientated? The Glast Gambit. And that quest was worse than the Limbo Theorem. The best Corpus thing we got lately was the Corpra Tennogen skin for Excalibur, the Supra Vandal, the… [Continue Reading]

How the Justice League Movie COULD Have Been Great.

Whether you’re a Marvel fan or a DC fan, I think we can all agree that the Justice League movie wasn’t that great. It wasn’t the worst thing on the planet, it wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t amazing either. Something was off about the whole movie. But luckily, there’s a three step guide that the people behind DC movies can follow to make sure that their movies can turn out better. Because competition is good and I’d love for DC movies to be as good and popular as Marvel movies. Thing the First: Get a Better Villain There’s a lot… [Continue Reading]

What Makes A Good Achievement?

According to Steam, the only game I have 100% completion on is Skyrim, the normal version. The only two achievements I actively hunted were the maxing out of the Werewolf and Vampire skill trees, because I never liked the Vampire and Vampire Lord forms and the Werewolf form only lasted as long as you kept on killing people. And only a handful of other achievements made me directly do various actions, like making sure I got every single Daedric artifact on one character. But that’s only because there are certain Daedric items *cough* the Skeleton Key *cough* that don’t count… [Continue Reading]

A Brain Full of Game Stuff

Some people have memories like sponges, they absorb everything. Some people have memories like buckets with holes in the bottom, so they forget everything. My memory is like a DIY water filter, filtering whatever passes through it, the water coming out the bottom pure and only the nasty, useless shit remaining. Simply put, I remember useless stuff but not important stuff. My brain is FULL of video game shit but I’m bad at remembering useful stuff. But video game stuff varies a lot. At my highest point, when SPUF was going full steam and I was a super awesome Medic… [Continue Reading]

On Building and IKEAframe

IKEAframe is the joke name given to creating things inside your ship or in clan dojos in Warframe. For a game built around creepy bio-mechanical space ninjas roaming the solar system killing armies of evil clones and profit-driven madmen, there’s actually a lot of effort that has been put into making your own custom spaces. It wasn’t until this year though that we got better decorating tools. It used to be that you could only place things while in your Warframe, being unable to move the camera any way your Warframe couldn’t. This meant that building things on top of… [Continue Reading]

Playing On Easy Difficulty

I like playing on Easy Difficulty. There, I said it. I like easy mode. It’s fun. It’s relaxing. No, I’m not a coward. No, I shouldn’t be mocked for it. There’s nothing wrong with playing any difficulty if a game gives you difficulty options. But WHY do I like playing on easy mode? Well, I’m about to tell you. A lot of my gaming is to do with stress levels. I work and I study and at the end of the day, I’m generally pretty tired, especially these days now that I sleep a lot worse than I used to.… [Continue Reading]

Why I Haven’t Done My Mastery Rank Test

I haven’t done my Mastery Rank test in a long time. I’ve been Mastery Rank 16 for about 3 months now and literally did the MR17 and MR18 tests a few days ago. The Mastery Rank 19 test is staring at me. I actually have enough affinity accumulated to get to about MR 20, if I wanted to. I’d have to stagger the tests over several days (since there’s a limit of one test, pass or fail, every 24 hours). But I haven’t done them. I don’t want to look like a really good player when I’m just an alright… [Continue Reading]
