Why I’m Ultimately Fine With Safer Seas’ Drawbacks

Safer Seas in Sea of Thieves comes with a lot of drawbacks. There are no emissary flags, you can’t go higher than level 40 on a faction and you can’t use captained ships or the Sovereigns. The biggest drawback is that all gold is cut back by 70%, meaning whatever you sell will only sell for 30% of its normal value. For example, an Ashen Winds skull sells for 15k on High Seas but sells for 3k on Safer Seas. All gold earned is cut down, including rewards from the season, as well as events. For the Gifts and Glory… [Continue Reading]

The Pirates of the Caribbean Tall Tales

Sea of Thieves has done two pirate crossovers in its time. The one we most recently saw was Monkey Island, where we got three Tall Tales featuring Guybrush Threepwood and other familiar characters from the series. However, the first crossover was an official, Disney-approved Pirates of the Caribbean series, featuring five Tall Tales where we save the Sea of Thieves, the Sea of the Damned and several other seas from Davy Jones and some stuff like that. While the Monkey Island Tall Tales are much more fitting with the original games, full of interesting puzzles and jokes, the Pirates of… [Continue Reading]

Thoughts on Safer Seas Now They’re Out

The other day, I was busy sailing on my own when I received an invite from my sister’s waifu (let’s call him Garbo, based on his username), inviting me to join him on a galleon on Safer Seas. So I finished the Ghost Fort I was doing (I’d only been playing for about 20 minutes), sold up all my loot and spent an eternity sitting in a loading screen, accepted his invite then sat in another long loading screen to join him. Also joining us were my sister and their friend, a very new player who had only played the… [Continue Reading]

More Little Stormcloud Adventures

The Little Stormcloud doesn’t see that much action. Up until recently, my brig saw very little action, being barely painted and decorated. However, with Guilds in the Sea of Thieves, Little Stormcloud finally got a chance to get some use. I pledged her to my guild, the Calcium Kings, and she’s now available for use by everyone in the Calcium Kings guild. And, occasionally, we take her out on adventures. I say “occasionally”, I mean twice. Her first proper excursion saw her unlock the majority of name plates, in a massive adventure that saw us make a fucking huge sum… [Continue Reading]

How To Be Less of an Obvious Target on the Sea of Thieves

I get it, not everyone is a bloodthirsty pirate. Sometimes, yes, you do want to just sail from island to island, digging up chests and shooting the odd skeleton. But sometimes people seem to target you and annoy you. The reasons are varied, either they see you as a threat, you have something they want or they just want to sink a ship. Luckily, there are some ways you can make yourself less of an obvious target. Use bright colours This sounds counterintuitive, because normally being brightly coloured suggests that you are a threat. However, if you use all the… [Continue Reading]

A Kitty in the Sea of Thieves

The other day, I finally gave in and bought a pet in Sea of Thieves. I’ve wanted a pet in Sea of Thieves for a long time, but I’ve been holding off for a long time, while i slowly earned enough Ancient Coins in order to be able to afford one. Ancient Coins in Sea of Thieves are the premium currency, and are actually pretty expensive, considering that the game itself is often €40. That being said, most people get Sea of Thieves for free or for cheap via the XBox Game Pass, so Microsoft and Rare have to make… [Continue Reading]

Little Quality of Life Things I want in Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves actually has a lot of decent accessibility features. You can use text to speech, have subtitles and turn on a lot of useful little things, like holding or tapping to interact with objects. However, there’s always a few little things that I feel like Sea of Thieves needs, that are more gameplay-orientated. Markers for skeleton ship loot Skeleton and ghost fleets are both world events, and when you kill a ghost ship, you get a couple of wraiths circling where the loot drops. When you defeat a skeleton ship though, that loot just bobs up and down… [Continue Reading]

The Skull of Siren Song

For the second part of Season 10 in Sea of Thieves, we’ve got a new voyage. Or world event. I’m not really sure. The Skull of Siren Song is a new thing which can give you lots of money, while also inviting other crews to battle with you. While it is basically a voyage with two treasure maps, the voyage pops up in the middle of nowhere, attached to your mast for you to accept. When you accept the quest for the Skull of Siren Song, Captain Briggsy, of Tall Tale fame, appears, asking you to find the Skull of… [Continue Reading]

Another Awesome Adventure on the Stormcloud

Sometimes, we don’t play as Reapers when we play Sea of Thieves. Sometimes, we want to do other stuff. For example, Bacxaber, Fox and I wanted to do Merchant Emissary missions in order to level up our ledger. The ledger can give out some pretty nice rewards, and these tend to rotate on the regular. To get all the rewards, you need a certain amount of emissary value, which can be obtained by raising an emissary flag and selling loot for whatever faction you decide to join. This time round, we were doing Merchants, specifically Lost Shipments. Most of this… [Continue Reading]

Weird Behaviors on the High Seas

I don’t have THAT many hours on the Sea of Thieves, but I’ve played enough to see plenty of weird things. Pirates are curious creatures, however they sometimes act in ways that don’t make much sense. The first weird behavior is floating in the middle of the ocean with your anchor completely lowered and your sails down. It is the sign of a newbie, but I’ve seen Dark Adventurer ships do this. Leaving your anchor and sails down is probably the worst thing you can do. If you are parking your ship, you should ALWAYS keep your anchor raised and… [Continue Reading]
