Happy birthday, Team Fortress!

Today, Team Fortress celebrates its 18th birthday! Now it can go out and drink and drive and all that… Depending on what country or state you’re in. Let’s hope that Team Fortress doesn’t overdo it and find itself at a police station or hospital. Anyway, happy birthday, Team Fortress! Hope you make it to the grand old age of 20! For fun, why not email the TF2 team and wish them a happy birthday in (virtual) person? Click here and send them a message! Try not to mention any bugs though. If you want to do that, send them a… [Continue Reading]

Finally, TF2 has gone mobile!

Howdy guys! My name is Varun Iyer, and I’d like to share with you guys a mobile app that I specifically designed for TF2 Players. Well, first of all I’d like to say that this was a project I started recently because I noticed that TF2 wasn’t going mobile. Specifically, features that many people use, such as trading, viewing their backpack, and price-lists for buying and selling items wasn’t available on mobile devices. People had to rely on their, bulky, fat (no offense) laptops to simply know whether they got the widowmaker they were trading for. Well, I can tell… [Continue Reading]

Phlog Updates: The Builder, the Sharpshooter and the Filmmaker

Everything is now back on track with the PhlogistiCast, our new YouTube show tasked with educating players of TF2! Episodes 3 and 4 have recently been released, with our first News Network video uploaded today. In Episode 3 we got Sn8wman on board to talk about the Engineer in all his glory. There was much laughter, cosmetic talk and gnashing of Pomson-rusted teeth. We also discussed the beta maps, Asteroid and Cactus Canyon, finishing with a few notes on low-gravity gameplay. Episode 4 was the first without Nommy around, but I managed to find just the chap to keep things… [Continue Reading]

Airstrike/Classic changes

We all know that Airstrike and Classic are interesting concepts but suffer from decreased viability. Airstrike does literally everything the rocket launcher does, except less efficently and punishes the team for having potatoes that die to that launcher. Classic discourages headshotting and makes sniper generally less effective compared to Sniper Rifle. The ClassicLevel 1 Sniper RifleCharge and fire shots independent of zoomNo headshots when not fully charged-33% headshot damage when not fully charged -10% damage on body shot TFC sniper rifle did 2 times headshot damage all the time. And in TF2? It just deals 3 times damage only when… [Continue Reading]

Altering the Invisible Man.

The Spy, a class of deceit, subterfuge, and sabotage. He holds in his arsenal: a knife capable of killing anything in one hit, a gun in case he’s caught in a bad situation, an electro-sapper to destroy enemy fortifications, a disguise kit to seamlessly blend in with the enemy, and finally a collection of watches capable of rendering him completely invisible. Those watches are pivotal to everything the spy can do. His disguise kit is useless without being in the right position; a position only reachable by an invisible man. His knife only has strength from behind. How can he… [Continue Reading]

A talk about the Scout Melee

So a lot of talk on the forums over the past few months has pointed out that the stock melee is underpowered, reskins included.  But why is it?  Because there are better unlocks out there?  From what I can tell, a general consensus agrees that stock melee weapons across all weapons are underpowered compared to other unlocks, such as the Axtinguisher and Bushwaka.  Better yet, those same people also claim that the rest of the melees should be balanced around said unlocks, rather than stock.  Now, although I do not agree with them on that case, I’m not saying they… [Continue Reading]

Why do you do this blog?

Not being mean. Just want to know why do you do this blog? What made you start? What keeps you going? Question directed at entire Daily SPUF “staff” and regulars. Medic: I have no idea! No, seriously, I don’t. Aabicus just asked me if I wanted to write stuff, I said yes and it all went up/downhill from there. Now I’m technically in charge of this, although neither of us seem to know who’s the editor and who’s the editor in chief and who’s the person making the tea and coffee. Aabicus says it’s me but I don’t believe him.… [Continue Reading]

A Silver Lining to the Stickybomb Launcher Nerf

As a fellow Team Fortress enthusiast, I’m sure I don’t need to remind you–the reader–about the controversial nerf to the Stickybomb Launcher from the recent Love & War update, nor the equally controversial reversion of said nerf. It became the subject of much debate and, unfortunately, heated and rather aggressive argument. Unless you had no opinion on the matter, this was a change that affected you. I’ll be frank with you: I didn’t support the nerf, and I was strongly in favor of the reversion. That’s not to say that I was adamantly against it; there were counterpoints from respected… [Continue Reading]

Loved For What You Are: It’s Okay To Be Situational

It seems to me that many people are of the opinion  that certain pieces of weaponry in Team Fortress 2 are underpowered or useless by the nature of not being optimal at all times.  If something is generally going to serve you better than all the other options available, why would you ever bother to use the alternatives?  Is it really worth it to attempt to engineer a situation where your situational alternative will potentially outperform the typical best choice? I would argue that yes, it is, and my reasoning is as follows: First of all, there are many times where… [Continue Reading]

Dekky’s introduction to Astrophysics

If you’ve listened to Episode 2 of The PhlogistiCast, you may have noticed the distinct lack of a warning label reading ‘May contain incorrect physics and positive statements about Scout.’ Since we recorded it live, mistakes were bound to happen. A couple of things slipped through the Net of Correction and, being the studious straight-A nerd I am, I couldn’t sleep until I laid them to rest. By the way, if you haven’t listened to that episode, here is a link so you no longer have to wear a bag of shame. With the recent beta release of rd_asteroid, the… [Continue Reading]
