More Than Just A Bedroom

Most games tend to have some sort of winter-themed in-game event going on. Warframe isn’t most games. Rather than create a winter event (like the Conclave PvP snowball event last year), they decided to give us a few different things. The first thing is the return of the Acolytes, a bunch of kiddies in modified Warframes who are loyal to that idiot the Stalker (from the Second Dream). The second thing is an event with Ghouls, a new type of Grineer enemy on the Plains of Eidolon. This is kinda like Plague Star but with far less rewards, really just a set of bounties that reward blueprints for two new Grineer weapons, as well as relics, endo, little lore tidbits and the same mods from Plague Star.

The last thing is… your own personal quarters.

Volt's New Quarters
Yes, of course I have a display of my beloved Volt. I may use Volt Prime more often, but Volt deserves his place on that pedestal…

Yep, the third room in your ship isn’t a weird magical room containing a chair for your Space Kid. Nor is it a weird room full of infested matter, a bunch of fish and a creepy chair. The third room is just your own personal space, with a couple of sets of shelves to put things on, a fish tank, a place to show off one of your Warframes and a ‘Vignette’, a little diorama display area. The Somachord allows you to play music inside your ship, but requires you to scan Cephalon Fragment-like objects in order to unlock songs. Capacity has been upped all over our ships, enabling us to put a good couple of hundred items in each room. There’s also a nice window so you can watch things pass by outside, something the Infested room lacks.

At the back of the room, assuming you’ve completed the Chains of Harrow quest, there is a sparkly, void-like orb which you can touch.

Here is where the creepy stuff happens. And the spoilers. Yes, spoilers. Turn back now if you don’t want spoilers.

Volt's New Quarters
Seriously, last warning, turn back now.

Touching the orb takes you to Lua. A familiar place. Just like when you woke from the Second Dream.

A light guides you. A purple, glowing one. As you walk, you hear the voices of Ballas and Margulis, talking to each other. You follow the light and it leads you past the damaged pods where Tenno used to be kept in stasis. There’s a hole, leading downwards.

Why am I on Lua?
Why am I on Lua?

You leave your Warframe. You fall down into the darkness. You land as your Operator, in a strange, oddly purple hallway. You walk forward, hearing Margulis’s last words.

Then something moves. A pod opens up. The Lotus is standing there, waiting for you. She wants you to come forward. We’ve all waited a long time for this. A proper meeting between mother and child.

I finally get to meet you without nearly being killed, Lotus!
I finally get to meet you without nearly being killed, Lotus!

But you’re not alone. Someone has followed you here. Ballas. The Orokin executioner. The one who turned the Tenno into weapons and ordered the creation of the Warframes.

Somehow, Lotus is looking at him. He is talking not at Lotus, but at Margulis.

As he speaks, Lotus seems almost hypnotized.

Wow this guy is fucking hideous. Lotus, you're not falling for this Orokin scum, are you?
Wow this guy is fucking hideous. Lotus, you’re not falling for this Orokin scum, are you?

Ballas offers his hand. His nasty, hideous, elongated hand. As he does so, the wires from Lotus’s helmet disconnect. She removes her helmet. She drops it. Then she accepts, she takes Ballas’s hand.

There is nothing you can do. She can’t hear you.

Lotus, what the fuck? You're... you're leaving us?
Lotus, what the fuck? You’re… you’re leaving us?

The couple disappear, leaving you completely alone, save for what remained of the Lotus.

A Tenno losing their mother.
“LOTUS! NOOOOO!”

And like that, you’re back on your ship. Ordis realises what has happened. To fill the void the Lotus has left in our hearts and ears, he creates a simulation of her messages, to continue to guide us through missions.

The Lotus is gone. But at least Ordis has our backs. Or maybe he just wants to get his hands on Ballas for what he’s done to us

This was way more than just a bedroom. The question is, how long will we have to wait to find out more?
