Helpful things you probably already know about SPUF

You’d think that, being someone with over 10000 posts on SPUF, people like me and aabicus would know all the ins and outs of a forum like SPUF. Except we don’t. For ages, we didn’t know how you find out who gave you rep and stuff like that. So here are some lovely little tips for you so you don’t get as confused as us. Editing the title of your thread What’s that? Made a typo in the title of your thread? Tried editing it in the Edit Post section but it didn’t work? There’s a solution! Yes, seriously. Turns… [Continue Reading]

How to deal with stupid Medics

You’ve had the same nightmare Medics, haven’t you? You’ve seen them. You must have seen them. Everyone’s seen them, whether they’ve been fighting people of the opposite colour, fighting hordes of robots or fighting a single, over-powered boss with thousands of hit points. You know what they’re like. All they do is heal one person, generally a Heavy. They refuse to spread heals around and take forever to deploy a single Uber, which they drop most of the time. If they’re not healing their Heavy friend, they turn into a Battle Medic and try to syringe things before rejoining their… [Continue Reading]

Sandviches for (not quite) everyone!

The Sandvich is overpowered. It allows one of the easier classes to play in the game to hide around a corner and heal himself or, worse, heal his team mates while he continues to tank damage and do massive damage in return. But here’s a thought, how would the Sandvich work on other classes? We’ll start with utility classes and work our way back. Of course, every class can benefit from what is essentially a free health pack, but since you have to taunt to use it, how effective would it be on every class? Spies, who are normally sneaking… [Continue Reading]

A look at TF2 from the eyes of a new player

Today, I chat with a close friend of mine, Dekky, who I introduced to Team Fortress 2. He’s a new player with a soft spot for shooting robots and firing rockets. We were all newbies once… How did you first hear about Team Fortress 2? Hmmm… probably from you Actually you and some other guys on the Budding Writers forum talking about it. AGES ago. Yah. That’s about all I can remember, really.. What was your first impression of the game as it loaded up and you saw the main menu? “Oooooooh, multiplayer!” Yeah. First thing I picked up on. Then… [Continue Reading]

“Medic takes Bionicle characters and puts them in the roles of TF2 mercenaries”

On the request of a single person, I’m writing this article. For those of you who don’t know, Bionicle was a LEGO franchise that started in 2001 and ended in 2010. The story started off with a bunch of mechanical heroes called Toa, protecting small, child-sized robots called Matoran on an island paradise from all sorts of evil or misguided nasties and evolved into one of the strangest stories around. Enemies include mind-controlled animals, the just-doing-their-job Bohrok and the terrifying, somehow snake-like Rahkshi. Spoiler, the good guys win. For more information, Biosector01 has pretty much everything in it. What if… [Continue Reading]

OhGodPleaseNotBadwaterAgainPleaseNooooo!

Yes, that title is like that on purpose, because that is how I feel when I see Badwater pop up as the next map. I still think that when I see Badwater_Rainy pop up, but not quite as much, as I need to take a few seconds to rebind my swim up and swim down keys. Where does this hatred, where does this fear come from? Well, read on, I’m about to tell you. In my early days of Team Fortress 2, I quickly realized that Teufort is a bad map. I wasn’t so quick to work out that Junction… [Continue Reading]

Medic Tries To Explain Things…

There’s a lot of unexplained stuff in Team Fortress 2, a lot of which probably never will be explained. There’s also a lot of stuff that wasn’t explained and then was explained years later, or stuff that we thought we knew then turned out we didn’t know. The list of things that we don’t have an explanation for could fill hundreds of articles and the great thing is, you can make up your own explanations!… Wait, I think I’m on to something… So now we have Medic Tries To Explain Things! A quick note, none of this is official. Number… [Continue Reading]

The Badlands aren’t that bad…

In previous articles, I’ve whinged and moaned about how I don’t like particular maps, while aabicus has gone on about how much he loves Doomsday and others still have tried to talk about other maps still. Today is about a map, yes, but this time, I’m not whinging. Well, not completely. Badlands is considered one of the best maps around. It is by far one of the most loved maps for competitive play, as each area has its own weaknesses and strengths, much like our favourite mercenaries. The map comes in three lovely flavours, although two of them are very… [Continue Reading]

Getting Lost in Steel

Steel is one of those maps that has a hit and miss effect on the community. A lot of people really like Steel and wish it could be played on more servers. Others utterly hate the map and refuse to play on it. Personally, I’m not sure, but I find myself veering towards disliking it. Let’s start with the good stuff. Steel is a very nice-looking map, set in that Dustbowl-like environment, dry with a hint of vegetation, some grass, but with lots of indoor areas and quite a few tight corners, more like Turbine. Both types of environment look… [Continue Reading]

The Family Business – The one weapon that SHOULD be multi-class!

The Family Business is nothing new. In fact, it’s one of those really annoying +stat/-stat weapons that most people despise and say it should be reworked and complain that it’s boring and stuff. But for someone like me, it’s great and I wish more people could use it. A quick reminder of the stats, the Family Business is your standard shotgun. It is currently equipped by the Heavy in the secondary slot. In exchange for an extra two shots in your clip, you get a nice 15% damage penalty. Doing the maths, it does a tiny weeny bit more damage… [Continue Reading]
