Brother’s Ballard

It was April 2017 when I got my brother into Warframe. It had been one of my few birthday wishes, that my siblings play video games with me (because I’m a boring, indecisive person) for a few hours. Out of the two of them, I expected neither of them to continue playing at all. Warframe, as far as I was concerned, was much more niche. More like asking someone to play Dota 2 over playing Overwatch. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Well it turns out it totally was brother’s cup of tea. To the point that he has nearly… [Continue Reading]

TWO THOUSAND FUCKING ARTICLES! Oh and there’s prizes and stuff.

What’s that? 2000 articles? Is this real? Is it a fantasy? No, it’s definitely real. It’s 100% real. We’ve hit 2000 articles! But first off, let’s spend a moment thinking just how awesome we are, having published over 2000 articles on the Daily SPUF, one a day since our inception. And on top of that, some of these articles were written by people like you, dear reader! In fact, you could become a person who writes articles, as laid out on this page. So yeah, that’s awesome. And you’re awesome. We’re all awesome. You’re here for the contest though. Because… [Continue Reading]

On Macaroni and Cheese

I love a good old pasta dish, filled with pasta and cheese and some sort of sauce. My favourite pasta dish is my own homemade macaroni cheese, made with whatever pasta I have in my cupboard, a bechamel sauce with an egg yolk in it, mustard and plenty of cheese. The cheese in question varies depending on what day of the week it is and how many sandwiches my cheese-loving sister has eaten, but still, it’s always good. The recipe itself is simple. You boil your pasta for as long as it needs, adding salt and a splash of oil… [Continue Reading]

‘Zilla

Everyone I have spoken to apart from my mum seems to hate the 1998 Godzilla movie. Not one of the Japanese ones, but a Hollywood re-imagining of the King of the Monsters. Not so much a revamp but Hollywood doing their own thing. They all say that the 2014 movie was more faithful. But faithful does not mean better. I’ve watched the 2014 Godzilla movie a few times. But frankly I don’t enjoy it. It’s slow, plodding, tiresome and does not have NEARLY ENOUGH Godzilla in it. What pissed me off the most was the human characters I didn’t care… [Continue Reading]

Sorry, I fucked up.

If you’re seeing this, sorry. I totally fucked up. Turns out I somehow tabbed off the main typing area here on WordPress, pressed tab a bunch more times trying to work out what I was doing, hit Enter and accidentally published an article I was writing. That article happened to be the 2000 post celebratory article. I mean, out of ALL the articles I could have accidentally published, it had to be that one. So I’ve had to go through all our social media and delete the articles. But I can’t go through and delete the article emails that you’ve… [Continue Reading]

Interaction Design and the User Experience

Don’t mind me. Just summarizing what I’ve been learning lately. But I feel a LOT of this could be applied to gaming, so maybe it might interest you as well. Interaction design focuses on how people use and work with devices and other products, such as computers and smartphones, but also how they work with interfaces in general, such as that of smart watches and ATMs, anything with an interface. The context of interaction design is on users, activities and environments, with users focusing on physical, sensory and cognitive capabilities, while environments include not just location, but also the setting,… [Continue Reading]

On Building Universes Again

A long time ago (literally nearly two years ago actually!), I wrote about building universes. In that article, I went on about how I had a MK3 universe and all that sort of thing, about some of the characters, things like that. It’s been a while though, so maybe it’s worth talking about what happened in those two years. Well, in those two years, I kinda… I changed my mind. Basically, the more depressed I got (and I was REALLY depressed in February of 2018), the more I was writing about Kinisis wanting to break and change everything. I was… [Continue Reading]

Infinite Lives

How many times have you been in near-death situations? Hopefully none. Hopefully you’ve never seen your life flash before your eyes. But there’s always been that case where you’ve stepped off the curb and nearly been clipped by a speeding vehicle, or you slip while going down the stairs and manage to catch yourself. Little moments like that. But what if we think about the opposite? Think about how maybe you’re on the brink of death. Every time you close your eyes, every time you blink, you think it might be the last. But you’re stubborn. You’re desperately trying to… [Continue Reading]

Solo – A Late Movie Review

I’d been meaning to see Solo: A Star Wars Story on release, or at least a week after with my brother Terroxy. Somehow my Star Wars-hating sister Nommy saw it first, and it MUST have been a good movie because she enjoyed it. “It’s not a Star Wars movie!” Nommy protests. Yeah no, you like a Star Wars movie. Don’t lie to us. But me and Terroxy saw it late, the 7:45pm showing on Saturday 16th of June. And we had the WHOLE SCREEN to ourselves. Literally just the two of us in the cinema. That was cool. So yeah,… [Continue Reading]

A Brain Full of Game Stuff

Some people have memories like sponges, they absorb everything. Some people have memories like buckets with holes in the bottom, so they forget everything. My memory is like a DIY water filter, filtering whatever passes through it, the water coming out the bottom pure and only the nasty, useless shit remaining. Simply put, I remember useless stuff but not important stuff. My brain is FULL of video game shit but I’m bad at remembering useful stuff. But video game stuff varies a lot. At my highest point, when SPUF was going full steam and I was a super awesome Medic… [Continue Reading]
