The Sticky Jumper: Looking Back

Every September 16th, The Daily SPUF honors Jump Day, a memorial holiday celebrating the pre-nerf Sticky Jumper which was cruelly taken from us in 2013. Last year’s Jump Day was a poignant milestone as it was our sixth, meaning we’d had one for every sticky that Valve deleted from the clip. This time next year, we’ll hit a nice round eight and the entire clip will be accounted for. Older articles have discussed why the nerf was unwarranted, unneeded and ineffective at solving the actual balance problems that TF2 suffered from back in the day. This one instead wants to… [Continue Reading]

Saints Row 2 is coming to PC…properly this time!

Saints Row 2 is among my favorite games of all time. It was the first one where the devs stopped trying to make gritty GTA clones and instead created a gangster sandbox that didn’t take itself seriously. Yet it was also before they veered off the deep end into wacky zany nonsensical insanity, which leaves Saints Row 2 as the perfect middle child of both worlds. Its one major problem is that the PC port is downright terrible, making it a chore to even see the great game underneath the choppy framerate, unplayable vehicle sections and constant crashes. But all… [Continue Reading]

On Blizzard and Hong Kong

I’m conflicted. On one hand, I really like Overwatch. It’s literally one of only two games I play nowadays (along with Borderlands 3), and it’s the current torchbearer of the “cartoony team-based arena shooter” genre that I’ve steadfastly followed ever since Team Fortress 2 got me into multiplayer gaming. I don’t want to give up Overwatch, and since there’s no subscription fee like World of Warcraft there’s nothing I could really cancel beyond uninstalling. But I can’t sit by and do nothing after seeing Blizzard supporting the Chinese government’s tyrannical attempts to overthrow Hong Kong’s government. [BREAKING] Hong Kong Hearthstone player @blitzchungHS calls… [Continue Reading]

Remembering the Sticky Jumper

Happy Jump Day! While SPUF itself may be long gone, the Sticky Jumper-themed holiday it birthed has survived six years, almost into the 2020s. Never forget the day they nerfed our Sticky Jumper! Out of all the cruel, heartless, and unneeded nerfs that Valve have levied on unsuspecting weapons in Team Fortress 2‘s long and checkered past, the Sticky Jumper nerf remains one of the harshest. Valve took one of the funnest and most unique weapons (it’s the only Demoman secondary that isn’t an explosive or a shield, creating an entirely new “scout with a grenade launcher” playstyle) and…um…well, to… [Continue Reading]

Shiny Pidgey and Rattata are now in Pokemon Go!

Hope you weren’t feeling burnt out by all these last-minute events in Pokemon Go, because Niantic just announced another one! https://twitter.com/PokemonGoApp/status/1100139961750298625 Today is Pokemon Day, the 23rd anniversary of when Pokemon Red and Green first came out on GameBoy in 1996! To celebrate, Niantic’s taking a walk down memory lane by dedicating an event to the Pokemon that players encounter at the beginning of those games. From February 26 to February 28th, Kanto legendaries are returning to raids (probably the birds, though I’m crossing my fingers for Shadow Ball Mewtwos), Pikachu and Eevee spawns will be wearing flower crowns, and… [Continue Reading]

Parts of The Steam Lunar Sale are a Bit of a Rip Off

The Steam Lunar Sale sounds very nice on the surface. A bunch of random sales celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year. Because that’s suddenly a thing now. In fact, everyone seems to be celebrating all of a sudden. To me, it feels like an excuse to make even more money off us poor normal folks, and it seems fitting that companies have picked the Year of the Pig to do so. But anyway, as well as your standard Steam sales and sales on games with Chinese publishers and developers, you can also get €5 off purchases over €30. Sounds great,… [Continue Reading]

Oceans Infinity Playtest This Saturday!

IMPORTANT INFO Where: mixer/Smackus_Maximus When: Saturday at 2pm PST Hi everyone! Oceans Infinity‘s third public playtest will be going live this Saturday at 2pm PST! We’ve been hard at work adding new features, the biggest being a transition system allowing viewers to control Gaston! Until now, the game was only playable with a streamer to control the thief, Gaston. The viewers could only play Gaston’s nanobots. But now, if our stream team is offline, the game can continue to play by randomly selecting one of the viewers to take over Gaston. That player can then choose to enter the bank and… [Continue Reading]

A Weapon of Formerly Infinite Jest – In Memory of the Sticky Bomb Launcher

Alas, poor Sticky Jumper! I knew him, SPUF: a weapon of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: it hath borne me through the sky a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rims at it. Here lie those rounded bombs that I have exploded I know not how oft. Where be your explosions now? your grenades? your cabers? your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set enemy snipers on a roar? Not one now, to mock your own grinning? quite chap-fallen? Now get you to the old SPUF, and tell those there, let… [Continue Reading]

Bleugh. European Parliament backs copyright changes. Because they are dicks.

First off, a link. To the BBC. Because they understand that stuff better than I do and they’re pretty unbiased. But also because I can’t find any real talk about this on the major news websites I normally visit. Which is suspicious as fuck. Like, seriously. Secondly, another link. To a website that I guess wants to do something about it. And with which I can put a ton of blame on France because they voted like 90% for all this stuff. Like seriously. Portugal, Bulgaria, Romania and Estonia all get a lot of blame as well. As do the… [Continue Reading]
