Some Article-Writing Standards

Hi everyone! I just thought I’d stop by with some more tips and guidelines for when it comes to writing articles, and how to get them looking nice and neat. As much as we let you write about whatever you want, there is a way missy Medic wants her articles to appear. Of course, I’ve written about this stuff before. But there’s always a few things I miss or change my mind on over the years, and since we have this newish site, I might as well make a new post. Just so you know, most of these… suggestions are… [Continue Reading]

Left 4 Dead’s Bill Added to Dead By Daylight

Dead by Daylight, a game produced by Starbreeze Studios of Payday 2 fame, has announced a Left 4 Dead 2 crossover DLC that adds veteran zombie-fighter Bill Overbeck as a playable character! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EFS8HEDzdU Dead By Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer game where four players assume the role of survivors trapped in a hellish forestscape, looking desperately for an escape while a fifth player controls a deranged killer hunting them down and sacrificing them to a chthonic entity. According to the lore, Bill woke up in this otherwordly purgatory after sacrificing himself in Left 4 Dead 2‘s ‘The Sacrifice’ campaign, and immediately dedicated his… [Continue Reading]

A Week of Love and Hate 3 – WINNERS!

Hi everyone! Just a quick 500-word announcement about this glorious week! It’s been a really nice week filled with tons of love and hate, and lots of conversation about video game maps. We’ve discussed hated classics like 2fort, we’ve looked at the superb design of Portal 2 maps, we’ve even looked at some weird as heck community maps. In the next few days, we’ll see a few more articles, aabicus’s least favourite L4D2 map, as well as my own stupid opinions on lovable and hate-able maps. Although we didn’t get a lot of entries (I understand, writing articles is hard),… [Continue Reading]

Overwatch and Killing Floor 2 Updates: Both Games Got a Machine Gun!

March 21st brought big updates for Killing Floor 2 and Overwatch! Most of you probably already know about the new Overwatch hero, so let’s get that one out of the way first. Orisa is the newest addition to the Overwatch roster and the first post-release tank, intended to fill the role of ‘primary tank’ that currently only Reinhardt really succeeds at. While the forums can’t agree on whether she succeeds in this regard, I can say in practice that she is very powerful and I often felt quite safe hiding behind her and her disposable barriers. However, due to being a mid-long… [Continue Reading]

A Week of Love and Hate 3 – A Place for Love

You know what I really, really, really hate? More than the billion shitty variations of maps like trade_minecraft and achievement_idle? When some part of my computer, this time my external hard drive, decides that it’s going to kill itself in some way and totally screw up an event I planned. But I’m not letting the potential death of my hard drive get me down, or get in the way of an event. Yep, here we are, on the third… Season? Series? Episode? Whatever… The third Week of Love and Hate. And while there aren’t that many entries, I can see… [Continue Reading]

An Awesome Wolf of Silver

Friendships are a funny thing. Up until the second Week of Love and Hate here on the Daily SPUF, I had no real idea who SilverWolf, AKA KillerHunter on the SPUF boards themselves, really was. And honestly, I still owe him an article about whatever he wants and he still hasn’t told me, but I like to think that now, we’re pretty good friends. Or at least acquaintances. Or something. Enough for SilverWolf to surprise me by gifting me like half the games on my wishlist. Not that I have a particularly big wishlist mind you, it hasn’t reached 10… [Continue Reading]

Coming Soon – A Week of Love and Hate 3 – Even More SPUF

It’s that time of year again. After the supposedly love-filled month of February comes the dreary month of March, which can’t be asked to snap out of winter and become the prettiness of Spring. Spring is April’s thing, March couldn’t give a shit. But March is also the time for A Week of Love and Hate, Number 3. That’s right, the community-writing fun fest is here to annoy you all. For those of you who don’t know, A Week of Love and Hate is about people writing articles about things they absolutely, uh, love and hate. Then a week is… [Continue Reading]

Lucio Added to Heroes of the Storm!

Lucio is the single most fun I’ve ever had playing a support class in a multiplayer, and now he’s bringing his area-of-effect heals over to Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard’s mashup MOBA starring characters from all over their various franchises. He’ll be joining Zarya and Tracer as the third hero to represent Overwatch.  (Which does bring up the question, will the next immigrant be a Defense hero? My money’s on Torbjörn.) Most of his kit has been preserved, albeit molded to fit the MOBA gameplay. His wallride lets him bypass enemies and avoid stuns, his various healing and sound barriers are still as powerful… [Continue Reading]

The Daily SPUF Thread Hits 10K Replies!

It’s an achievement 3 years, 3 months and 26 days in the making…the Official Daily SPUF thread just received its 10,000th reply! That’s 1213 days in total, which coincidentally is the name of the first indie adventure game I ever played and highly recommend to any fans of the genre. The 10,000th post came on the 667th page (assuming you’re using the archaic ’15-replies per page’ default setting. It’s 2017! Bump that bad boy up to forty!), just passing the Number of the Beast. This makes the Daily SPUF thread the only current thread in the main SPUfspace with a quintuple-digit reply count,… [Continue Reading]
