Back 4 Blood Beta Review

I was lucky enough to get to play the Back 4 Blood beta thanks to my friend AngelOfWeir gifting me a pass! I will admit going in that I had some serious reservations about what I’d seen. After over 1800 hours in the Left 4 Dead, Payday, and Killing Floor franchises, I was seeing some massive issues in the early streams. So I was very happy to play the beta and see that all of the issues I was concerned about got fixed. Here are some reasons I’m definitely gonna buy the game when it comes out: 1. The zombies… [Continue Reading]

Fun Ways to Play Left 4 Dead 2 Solo Without Bots

Left 4 Dead 2 is undeniably a multiplayer-game, designed to emphasize teamwork and excel when you bring buddies who can watch your back. Hell, it even won the “Better With Friends” award in the inaugural Steam Awards. But as I’ve noted in a few earlier articles, my preferred way to play is completely solo. Not even with ally bots; I like to fight the endless zombie hordes completely on my lonesome. And when I’m not soloing myself, I like to watch the pros who have turned it into an art form. My main contribution to the solo-L4D2 community is “Solo No… [Continue Reading]

Zombie Sandbox – Dead Rising 4

For ages, my zombie game of choice was always Left 4 Dead. I never really tried any others. But when the siblings and I spotted two copies of Dead Rising 4 in a local store, we decided to pick it up. Brother already owned it but me and sister didn’t. So we bought the game and decided to give it a go. Once we’d downloaded the game, of course. Initial thoughts: Lots of zombies, lots of stuff. I was actually somewhat surprised by how much stuff each map contained. The map we played on was pretty damn large and actually… [Continue Reading]

Warhammer: Vermintide – Almost Literally Left 4 Dead 2

My brother has been pestering me to play Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide for ages. But the 50GB download and the fact that it was a coop-based shooter akin to Left 4 Dead put me off. I can barely get through Hard Rain on my own or with players, how was I supposed to do that with magic involved? But I couldn’t say no any more when brother dumped said 50GB on my external hard drive then asked me where my Steam Library was. With Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide installed, I had to play. Also I’m shortening that title… [Continue Reading]

OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead Beta – First Impressions

What’s that? OVERKILL, the people behind PAYDAY and PAYDAY 2, are doing a zombie game? Considering the fact that PAYDAY 1 is kinda like Left 4 Dead but with zombies that shoot back at you, the thought of an OVERKILL zombie game actually sounded incredibly awesome. Sure, I don’t play much PAYDAY but it’s zombies? How could they go wrong? Well, there’s lots of ways they could go wrong. Aabicus very kindly gave me access to the beta, and we played a little together, trying both missions and wandering around the camp area, where there were some things we might… [Continue Reading]

Behind The Boy On The Bridge – An Interview with Mike Carey

Behind The Boy On The Bridge After Hotel Echo is overrun by junkers (survivalists) using hungries (humans infected by Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis, whose new big thing is to eat flesh, and who do so quite indiscriminately.) to batter down the fences, Sergeant Eddie Parks manages to escape with a single soldier (Kieran Gallagher, whose main motivation for enlisting was to escape the brutal overcrowding of England’s last human enclave, Beacon), two female staff members, and Test Subject Number One. At Echo, Dr. Caroline Caldwell has been studying and dissecting anomalous specimens: feral children infected by the hungry pathogen who retain higher… [Continue Reading]

Left 4 Dead’s Bill Added to Dead By Daylight

Dead by Daylight, a game produced by Starbreeze Studios of Payday 2 fame, has announced a Left 4 Dead 2 crossover DLC that adds veteran zombie-fighter Bill Overbeck as a playable character! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EFS8HEDzdU Dead By Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer game where four players assume the role of survivors trapped in a hellish forestscape, looking desperately for an escape while a fifth player controls a deranged killer hunting them down and sacrificing them to a chthonic entity. According to the lore, Bill woke up in this otherwordly purgatory after sacrificing himself in Left 4 Dead 2‘s ‘The Sacrifice’ campaign, and immediately dedicated his… [Continue Reading]

Left 4 Dead 2 – The Sacrifice

Love and Hate 3 is themed around favorite and least-favorite maps, and even though I’m not eligible to win, I can’t resist an opportunity to talk about Left 4 Dead 2, especially since I can’t do TF2 because I’ve already written about my favorite and least favorite maps in the game. And while I’m going to need time to pick my least-favorite map in Left 4 Dead 2 (they’re all fun in their own way), my favorite is an easy pick. ‘The Sacrifice’ is so different from the other maps that it’s the only map I can replay immediately after a previous run… [Continue Reading]

Killing Floor 2 Update: New Zed, Map, Multiperk Weapons

A new balance patch has come out for Killing Floor 2, and it’s awesome. First things first, the Gorefiend is the newest addition to the Zed hordes, looking like a Gorefast but with two makeshift swords instead of one. He’s got this helicopter attack that’s scarily effective at shredding through a player’s HP, he’s immune to being bashed, and he’s probably the most effective glass cannon among the Zed hordes. At the moment, he only spawns on Hard, Suicidal, or Hell on Earth difficulty, which I don’t like. Every other Zed spawns on every difficulty, and I don’t think he… [Continue Reading]
