My First Pokemon GO raid

I was supposed to go out for coffee with my mum and my bro, but after joining a local Pokemon GO Facebook group, plans changed slightly. There was a 5 star raid going on, only ten minutes away. The cafe we went to had jo diet drinks apart from black coffee, so mum wasn’t too annoyed with the two of us buggering off to do a raid. We got the messages, six other people were going to the raid, so two more sets of six Pokemon to throw at this raid would have been helpful. It was just down the… [Continue Reading]

Healing among the chaos

For years I have been playing Medic solo in pubs. If there is ever a law banning self-torture, I’ll be jailed for life. After trying to heal in an environment where cooperation is minimal and communication is optional, I realize that the holy trinity of Crusader’s Crossbow, Medi Gun and Ubersaw, while powerful, is not too practical for me in this setting. Thus, my own pubcrawler Medic loadout isn’t the holy trinity, rather it consists of the Syringe Gun, Quick-Fix and the Amputator. I am pretty well aware of the three weapons in the holy trinity, and I know their strengths,… [Continue Reading]

On Giving Guns to Sentinels

I forget that Sentinels have weapons. I always do, up until I get Riven Mods for them from sorties. My Riven luck has petered out completely, gifting me a perfect mod for the Glaxion that only shoots 10% of the time and three shitty Sentinel weapon Rivens. Almost no one wants a Riven Mod for a Sentinel. In fact, not everyone wants guns on Sentinels in general. But why? Well firstly, giving weapons to Sentinels causes them to draw aggro. Which often means they get killed. Unlike Kubrows and Kavats, Sentinels can’t be revived unless you use the Regen or… [Continue Reading]

The hitscan enemies in Serious Sam 3: BFE

Serious Sam 3: BFE is my first game of the franchise, and I only played the other entries after I finished Serious Sam 3. When I was doing my first complete run of Serious Sam 3, the Cloned Soldiers felt really out of place. Being hitscan enemies, I am pretty much forced to take cover and wait for their gunfire to cease, before I rushed in to kick one of them across the room and shoot his buddy in his stupid face. The Cloned Soldiers first appeared in the second chapter, where they spawn in small squads. It is in… [Continue Reading]

A Happy Chikorita Community Day

September 22nd, between midday and 3pm across the world, was Chikorita Community Day. The green, grassy, derpy, flowery, generation 2 starter Pokemon began spawning all over the place, with any third form evolutions gaining a unique attack if evolved during that time and a higher chance to obtain shinies. Chikorita basically replaced every other Pokemon, except for the odd Mankey or Meowth. Of course, I had to go and catch some Chikoritas. I arrived at the town hall just before noon with my brother, meeting up with a couple of other players. Before noon, there were various Kanto Pokemon wandering… [Continue Reading]

Why Demoman?

Why do I enjoy playing Demoman? Well, I just really, really enjoy hitting pipes. While the Stickybomb Launcher is the Demoman’s de facto primary weapon and his best damage dealer, the grenade launchers always have this strange allure for me. Sure, they probably aren’t as powerful as the Winbomb Launcher, but there is just something really satisfying about lobbing a grenade and having it hit a Scout right in his face, carving a whole chunk of health out of that Bostonian loudmouth. The greater skill needed to directly hit a grenade, the beautiful arc the pills traced as they flew through… [Continue Reading]

Why Engineer?

Why do I play Engineer? Not to turtle, that’s for sure. I play Engineer to support my team, by providing suppressive fire, healing, ammo resupply and teleportation to the frontlines. The appeal of Engineer, however, isn’t just on the support he can provide for the team, or being able to get kills while sitting back and AFK for hours while your Sentry does the work. In fact, the Sentry isn’t even the most interesting thing about the Engineer. I really enjoy playing Engineer. To be more specific, I love playing Combat Engineer. So much so, I wrote about how much… [Continue Reading]

Why Pyro?

Pyro is, as of now, my go-to class when I play TF2. However, why do I like playing Pyro so much? I enjoy Pyro’s gameplay, both the ambush, flanking style and the more support-based style. But no, that isn’t the only reason why I like playing Pyro, although it is the main one. And it definitely isn’t Pyro’s character either, since Pyro is my fourth-least favourite merc character-wise. Demoman, Medic, and Heavy are my top 3 favourite mercs character-wise, in that order. And it most definitely isn’t Pyro’s cosmetic options, since I prefer Medic’s and Spy’s. What I love most about Pyro… [Continue Reading]

On Never Playing Hydroid

So, a Hydroid walks into the Strata Relay, wearing lots of black and red and white and blue. Traditional Pirate looks. Floating behind him is a bright red and yellow Para Carrier Sentinel, flapping its dumb, pointless wings. He’s got a Bolto on his hip and a Glaive, but for some reason the Glaive is attached to his crotch rather than his arm. The Hydroid heads straight for the bar behind Teshin’s little Conclave crevice, where the other cool Tenno hang out. The Tenno eye this Hydroid, but apart from the Glaive on his crotch, he’s not bothering anyone. But… [Continue Reading]

A Weapon of Formerly Infinite Jest – In Memory of the Sticky Bomb Launcher

Alas, poor Sticky Jumper! I knew him, SPUF: a weapon of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: it hath borne me through the sky a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rims at it. Here lie those rounded bombs that I have exploded I know not how oft. Where be your explosions now? your grenades? your cabers? your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set enemy snipers on a roar? Not one now, to mock your own grinning? quite chap-fallen? Now get you to the old SPUF, and tell those there, let… [Continue Reading]
