It’s not just about adding new content

Let’s face it, we’re still in a giant content drought. Literally nothing has happened to TF2 that’s even worth talking about. That’s why you’ve seen so much non-TF2 stuff here lately. It’s why people like Star_ are moving away and making videos about other things. While competitive TF2 is still there, it’s not really going anywhere special. Modding and SFM communities still exist, but there’s little else going on. Smaller TF2 communities are lagging behind, while larger ones like Reddit and SCUD are filled with nothing more than memes, chatter and balance for the lowest common denominator. It’s reached a… [Continue Reading]

Unique Loadouts 1 – Direct hit + Buff Banner

This week’s loadout is brought to you by RabidKarim. “If I might make a suggestion have you tried Direct Hit and Buff Banner? It is really fun because mini crits have no fall off coupled with the direct hits extra damage and rocket speed you can hit 150 damage rockets from across the map.” When using this loadout I at first was incredibly frustrated, most of this stemming from me just being terrible with the Direct Hit. But after about 8 round of using this on mainly payload and KOTH, I found it is most effective on payload offense, especially… [Continue Reading]

Medic Does Competitive – Week 2 6v6 and 4v4

Ah, matchmaking. A process in which you’re matched up with enemies of a somewhat similar skill level, in the hopes that you’ll have a nice, happy, balanced but challenging match. Except maybe not. This week’s competitive events were not exactly fun for everyone involved. So, the 4v4 team known as SCUD is no more. We formed a new team called SPUF EU, consisting of myself, Confusion, Sham and Davjo, with Keith and Jensen as subs and newcomer w0lk joining the ranks. Last season, we finished off in 9th place in Euro Steel, with a somewhat okay score of 6-3. This… [Continue Reading]

The Huntsman isn’t too bad.

Everyone whinges on, day in and day out about how shitty the Huntsman is. The Lucksman. The Fucksman. The C*ntsman. All abusive names. People hate this Sniper weapon with a passion, even more so than the fuck-up that is the Machina. People hate the Huntsman more than the new, Sniper-screwing Darwin’s Danger Shield. But the Huntsman isn’t that bad. In fact, with a few tweaks, I believe it could be the most balanced Sniper weapon ever. I know why everyone hates the Huntsman. It’s somewhat spammy. When you’re using a weapon that can headshot people for 150 damage, then maybe… [Continue Reading]

Halloween Capers

I hope Scream Fortress isn’t so stupid this year. Tradition has always had it that, for Halloween, the TF2 team gets together, waters the potted plant and actually comes up with somewhat new content. I say somewhat, the map we get is always a Halloween revamp of an old map, but the guessing game of what each year’s map will be is always amusing. Scream Fortress started with simple roots. The first map was Harvest, set under a bright moon, with a cute little ghost floating around, scaring and stunning people who got too close and making them easy prey… [Continue Reading]

The 3 Best Payday 2 DLCs

(Updated Janury 8th to reflect changes to the game) Payday 2 has a lot of DLC. A lot of them cost money. One of the first things I had trouble figuring out after I decided that I liked the game was which DLC are worth the five-dollar price tag, and the first conclusion I drew was “none of them.” The base game has all sorts of cool options for the enterprising heister with a perfectly fine arrangement of weapon types, weapon mods, and maps to run around testing out your guns. Even then, you can play DLC maps by joining public… [Continue Reading]

Why can’t I not use the SMG?

I hate playing Sniper, so thankfully I rarely get the chance to, leaving it up to people who can aim to fill that role. But every so often, once in a blue moon, I’ll pick up Sniper, only to throw him back again. Every time I do play Sniper though, I’m stuck with the same old question. “Why the hell am I still using the SMG?” Well, what are the other options? Everyone’s favourite jar-based karate has been around for a long time. Then there’s Sniper’s various backpack items – the Danger Shield, the Razorback and the Cozy Camper. Oh… [Continue Reading]

TF2 hasn’t gotten any promos in a long time…

Apparently 2014 really was the Year of the Promo. While at the time, it seemed to be just another step in the logical progression of Genuine cosmetics flooding our fair shooter as developers everywhere ticked another box in their marketing checklists to get people to play the latest game from <insert company here>, it appears that 2015 is not following in those footsteps and the flood of promos that assailed TF2’s filesize for the last few years has completely dried up. Not counting competitive TF2 tournament medals, the last Genuine-quality promotional items added to TF2 as a cross-franchise publicity perk… [Continue Reading]

Conflicting Communities: Of Heisters and Mercenaries

So as most of you have noticed (though probably not) there has been a distinct lack of posts made by me on SPUF. You can tell from the lack of shitposts made by a certain PootNameHere. Why is that? Well, the answer is simpler than you think. I have become bored of TF2. My attention span for this game literally died out. Sure, I could blame EOTL for driving me away, sure, I could blame Valve for flooding this game with a never ending amount of hats, but no. The reason is, once again, simpler than you think. It’s all… [Continue Reading]

Eyeballs.

“Ah, Vel’Koz, you made it!” Hermaeus Mora grinned menacingly as he opened the front door to the Halls of Forbidden Knowledge. “So glad to see my old student once more!” Vel’Koz shuddered. He hated Apocrypha. So much knowledge so badly stored. “You seem happy. Is it because I brought a friend?” He floated to one side, revealing something more eyeball-y than himself and Hermaeus Mora combined. “Oh, only partially. So, who is our new friend? Welcome!” “Hermaeus, this is Monoculus. I, uh, salvaged him from a fight with a rather gender-amorphous wizard. He can’t talk very well, but he understands… [Continue Reading]
